Chapter 251
When Love Comes Late
Lucia frowned.
âCould it be that Stella doesnât want to see me?â
Matthew mulled over what to say before he finally gave in.
âItâs not that, Grandma.
Iâll ask Stella to pay you a visit, but I have a request.
â
His voice sounded especially loud in the quiet ward.
Luciaâs tone softened.
âWhat request?â
âI canât be present when Stella comes to see you,â said Matthew, looking at his grandmother warily.
Lucia asked in confusion, âAnd why is that?â
It took Matthew another minute before he finally opened up about his marital woes.
âALL in all, I thought she cheated on me behind my back.
But it was a misunderstanding.
â
The moment he finished narrating, Lucia raised her hand and smacked him in the arm.
She shouted angrily, âYou foolish boy! I specially chose Stella for you.
Did it ever occur to you that I know exactly what kind of person she is? How can you make her go through all that just because of some silly assumptions? As if that wasnât enoughâ¦â
Lucia was about to explode, so she took a deep breath before continuing, âYou kept hounding her for a divorce! If Stella finds out about what you think of her, I wonât speak for you! You made your bed, so lie on it.
I donât care how you do it.
Just get her back.
Otherwise, you wonât Like to see the other side of me!â

Matthew stayed silent and didnât move a muscle.
He felt like he deserved all the shouts and hits, so he didnât retort now.
âI have realized my wrongs, Grandma.
From now on, Iâll try to make it up to Stella,â he said sincerely.
Lucia glared at him and insisted, âNo slacking.
You need to act fast!â
âI know.
â Matthew Lowered his head.
When Lucia saw that he was serious, she didnât have the heart to continue scolding him.
She sighed again and asked, âSo whatâs your next Line of action? You canât continue to keep her in the dark.
It might cause more problems for your marriage.
â
Matthew confessed, âYeah, I know, but I canât just hit her with the news.
I intend to test the waters first and take things one step at a time.
â He finally raised his head and looked at Lucia with pleading eyes.
âThatâs why I need you to cover for me.
â
Lucia patted his hand heavily and said, âIâll help you this time.
If you fail to win Stella over, Iâll adopt her as my granddaughter and get her a better man who would treat her like a queen.
I should have known that she was too good for you.
