Chapter 286
When Love Comes Late
She leaped to her feet and explained, âI have to say that itâs not the fault of the management that I got stuck in the building for some time.
Actually, I lost track of time last night, so itâs on me.
â
Matthew remained quiet.
He just looked at Jeremy up and down with an unreadable expression.
When he called Stella last night, she told him in the calmest tone ever that she was already home.
He thought she took a taxi by herself.
Neither Stella nor the security guard had mentioned anything about Jeremy driving her home.
What was Jeremy up to? Was he just trying to be nice or did he have ulterior motives?
Matthew was lost in thought.
âThatâs not a big deal.
You should have gone ahead to instruct the administrative supervisor instead of bringing it up here and wasting our time.
â
Matthewâs eyes were glued on Jeremy when he finally spoke, so he noticed every single change in his cousinâs expression in a span of seconds.
Their eyes locked for a while.
Finally, Matthew withdrew his gaze indifferently.
âThe meeting is officially over.
You can all leave.
Except you, Stella.
We need to go over some things concerning the upcoming exhibition.
â
The other employees stood up and left the boardroom quickly.

On the way out, Jeremy turned and squinted at the two of them.
Stella and Matthew were left alone at the table soon after.
Stella immediately took out her phone and opened the notepad to take down notes.
âWhat would you like me to do, sir?â
Hearing this, Matthew raised his head.
âWhat happened last night?â he asked, staring her dead in the eyes.
Shock was the first emotion that appeared on Stellaâs face as soon as she heard that question.
This was followed by confusion.
She couldnât understand why Matthew told her to stay back just for this.
Stella smiled awkwardly and explained in detail, âWhen Fernando was on his way out last night, he mentioned that the power supply of the company would be cut off, but it skipped my mind.
When I finally remembered, the power was already out and I had to find my way downstairs in the dark.
â
âAnd Jeremy?â Matthew asked, sounding somewhat impatient.
Stella looked up at him and there was a stalemate.
His serious expression made her a little nervous.
Nonetheless, she answered honestly, âI bumped into him at the gate.
