Chapter 318
When Love Comes Late
Matthew, equally taken aback by Stellaâs unexpected presence, asked, âItâs quite late.
What brings you here?â
âI had an urgent matter to discuss with you, but I couldnât reach you by phone, so I decided to come to your house,â Stella explained.
Matthew had been tied up in meetings all day, leaving him no opportunity to check his phone.
âCome in.
â He opened the door and ushered Stella inside.
As Stella gazed up, she beheld his sturdy form, causing her cheeks to flush once more.
She gently reminded him, âWould you Like to change your clothes first?â
Matthew lowered his gaze, suddenly aware of his unsuitable attire.
âI apologize.
I heard the doorbell and feared something amissâ¦
Please, go ahead and make yourself comfortable.
Iâll change.
â
With a bow of her head, Stella moved to the living room, seating herself rather stiffly.
Matthew walked back to his room to switch outfits.
In a matter of minutes, he emerged clad in dark gray pajamas, which softened his demeanor, imbuing him with a livelier air.
Taking a seat opposite Stella, he asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
Stella promptly handed him a check, explaining, âJeremy gave me this.

She proceeded to recount the eveningâs events, stating, âJeremy lured me in under the pretense of sharing insider information about the art exhibition accident.
In the end, he gave me a contract and wanted to get your information out of me.
â
A shadow crossed Matthewâs face, his grip on the check tightening.
Observing his reaction, Stella cautioned, âYou must be careful with Jeremy.
â
âThe check isnât enough evidence unfortunately,â Matthew said, as he stared at the check in front of him.
âI know.
I just want you to be careful and prepared for what Jeremy is planning next.
â As Stella spoke, she realized that Matthewâs attention was now on her legs.
She glanced down to find her knees covered with blood.
She mustâve gotten injured from the fall.
She didnât feel it before, but now that she was out of danger, her knees were screaming in pain.
âItâs getting a bit late.
I think I should head back.
â Stella got up from the sofa.
She turned around to leave when Matthew suddenly grabbed her wrist.
âSit.
You need to treat those first,â Matthew said.
His tone left no room for argument.
