When Love Comes Late
He picked up a document, though his eyes darted back to the screen repeatedly.
When he saw Stella extinguish the office lights, he promptly abandoned the documents, rose from his chair, and retrieved his coat.
Matthew ventured to the CEOâs private elevator, descending straight to the ground floor.
As he arrived in the lobby, he noted an elevator across from him, its indicator lights descending.
He had timed his departure well.
However, anxiety crept in.
He was about to encounter Stella, but how could he make it appear accidental?
Before he could devise a plan, the elevator doors slid open.
Stella stood within, her expression registering pure astonishment.
âMr.
Clark, you havenât left yet?â
âI was just on my way,â Matthew replied with a calm demeanor.
âThe rain hasnât let up.
Allow me to drive you home.
â
His tone was collected, and Stella failed to detect any hint of contrivance.
She offered a polite but hesitant refusal.
âI can easily catch a taxi.
You donât need to trouble yourself.
â
âItâs no trouble at all,â Matthew asserted promptly.
Observing the flabbergasted look on Stellaâs face, he added, âIâve heard there have been recent reports of thieves in the area.
Itâs not safe for you to head home so late.
â
At the mention of potential thieves, Stella gazed apprehensively into the night, her eyes filled with trepidation.
She bit her lip, conceding, âThank you for offering to drive me home.
â
Matthew couldnât help but feel gratified by her agreement.

During the ride, Matthew was behind the wheel, and Stella remained mostly silent, her thoughts adrift.
The late hour meant few vehicles graced the roads, resulting in an unhindered journey.
As they reached a traffic light, Matthew parked the car, and a thought crossed his mind.
He swiveled to face Stella.
âStella, have you completed your design for the upcoming competition?â
Stella nodded with conviction.
