Chapter 40
When Love Comes Late
Stellaâs lips were sealed tightly.
Miley continued to comfort her, âLook at the brighter side.
Since you never saw Maverick, it will be easier for you to move on.
Iâll introduce more handsome and caring men to you once you are single again.
â
There was no expression on Stellaâs face.
Mileyâs heart went out to her.
She would give anything just to take away her friendâs pain.
Life had been harsh for Stella since she was little.
Her biological parents abandoned her in an orphanage when she was a child.
Their abandonment left a huge dent in Stellaâs self-esteem.
When she grew up, she was extra careful not to fall in love.
She feared getting dumped by someone she opened her heart to.
Over the years, Stella lived as if she didnât have a care in the world.
But the truth was she lived in constant fear of the unknown.
Miley felt that part of the reason why Stella agreed to marry Maverick was that she didnât want to spend time ki*sing too many frogs.
Better to settle down than get multiple heartbreaks, right?
But she mustnât have seen this early divorce coming.
It took Stella a while to process this.
Then, she smiled at them and said, âGuys, Iâm fine.
You can go to sleep now.
â
âAre you~â Miley wanted to object.

âIâm fine, Miley.
I donât have feelings for Maverick.
In fact, divorce is inevitable for a dysfunctional couple like us.
You can go to rest.
I need to go back to sleep.
Iâm tired,â said Stella, forcing a smile and then yawning.
Left with no choice, the three people had to leave the room after ki*sing her goodnight.
Once alone, the smile on Stellaâs face melted.
She looked at her phone and found that there was no message from Maverick.
He didnât even bother to explain.
Stella smiled bitterly.
She lay in bed, but she couldnât fall asleep until the crack of dawn.
It was already eight oâclock when she work up.
She was running late.
She quickly washed up and took a taxi to the company.
She sauntered down the hall of the building as soon as she got in.
Luckily, she was able to stop the elevator doors from closing with her bag.
It wasnât until she got in that she saw Matthew and Fernando standing inside the elevator, one behind the other.
