Chapter 776
When Love Comes Late
Eager to usher in a fresh chapter in her life, Stella accepted the gesture without hesitation.
That evening, a wave of familiar faces flooded the living room, quickly immersing themselves in revelry.
Meanwhile, Stella was in the kitchen, diligently frying chicken legs.
Hot oil spattered haphazardly, causing Stella to furrow her brows.
Sheâd donned a light-colored dress for the occasion but had forgotten to wear an apron, too engrossed in dredging the chicken legs in flour.
Eyeing the flour still clinging to her fingers, she cautiously sidestepped the bubbling oil and yelled out, âMiley! Could you come to the kitchen?â
Assuming it was Miley who entered, Stella didnât turn around and instructed, âGrab the apron over there and help me tie it, would you?
My hands are covered in flour.
â
She then resumed her focus on the chicken legs.
Instead, a pair of male hands reached around her and secured the apron at her waist.
âIs there anything else I can assist you with?â asked a gentle male voice.
Startled, Stellaâs grip on a chicken leg wavered, and it plummeted into the sizzling oil.
The oil splashed.
Matthew swiftly grabbed her by the waist and yanked her away from the stove.
Hot oil continued to sizzle and pop in the pan.
Wearing a look of concern, Matthew asked, âDid you get hurt?â
âIâm fine,â Stella assured him, shaking her head.

âWhen did you get here?â
âJust now,â Matthew replied.
Releasing her, he leaned to turn off the stove.
âWhat are you doing? Itâs not finished yet,â Stella interjected, stepping forward to block him.
âLetâs order takeout.
Cooking yourself nearly got you injured,â
Matthew retorted, clearly displeased.
âItâs nearly ready,â Stella began, looking at her flour-coated hand and halting her attempt to physically move him aside.
âWhy donât you go join the others in the living room? We can all eat together shortly.
Itâs a joyous occasion.
Letâs not dampen the mood, okay?â
Whenever she adopted a softer tone, Matthew found it challenging to vent his annoyance.
