Chapter 809
When Love Comes Late
Stella looked ahead and opened her mouth, attempting to speak.
But no sound came out.
She touched her throat and tried again.
âBaby, you must grow up strongâ¦â The womanâs voice echoed around her.
Stella scanned her surroundings, but there was no one in sight.
Unbidden tears rolled down her cheeks.
She lifted her hands to wipe them away.
Silence returned, leaving her in solitude.
Desperate, Stella finally managed to cry out, âIs that you, Mom?
Donât go! If youâre leaving, take me with you!â
As the nightmare consumed Stella inside the operating room, Matthewâs visage grew increasingly somber just outside the sliding doors.
Though autumn had cast its chill, his attire clung to him, wet with perspiration.
The doors to the surgical suite swung open and closed as medical professionals darted in and out, but Matthew remained rooted in place.
His gaze fell to bloodstained hands.
Seeing Stellaâs blood sent shivers down his spine and his towering physique trembled.
His heart sank into a frigid void, rendering him helpless.
The image of discovering Stella, battered and slouched in a chair, delicate as if a simple touch would break her, haunted him.
He shouted her name with desperation when the medical team and police finally freed her, but she remained unresponsive.
His thoughts disintegrated into chaos.
The doctors labored diligently to stop Stellaâs hemorrhaging, but it proved relentless.
Matthew tightly held Stellaâs cold hand, repeatedly calling out to her to wake up, assuring her that he was right there with her.
However, there was no response.

It was the first time Matthew had ever felt death so close in front of him.
A crippling fear and helplessness engulfed him like never before.
Time seemed to stand still until Farris finally emerged from the emergency room, leaving the door slightly open.
However, the glaring lights of the operating room remained on.
Jolted back to reality, Matthew rushed forward.
âHow is Stella?â
âBefore anything else, youâll need to sign a critical condition notice,â Farris responded, his voice tinged with iciness as he removed his surgical mask.
Matthewâs eyes brimmed with tears.
âStella has to survive! If you canât save her, find another doctor.
Now!â
