Chapter 815
When Love Comes Late
With a sense of resignation, Matthew proposed a compromise.
âHow about I rest here for a short while? Would that suffice?â
Lucia didnât verbalize her response, but the slight nod she gave was enough for Matthew to understand that she agreed.
Sitting back in his chair, Matthew crossed his arms and slowly closed his eyes, surrendering to his exhaustion.
Luciaâs gaze lingered on him, filled with concern, before shifting to Stella in the hospital room.
Matthew couldnât stay asleep for long.
His worries for Stella kept him in a restless slumber.
After barely twenty minutes, his eyes fluttered open once again.
âGrandma, you should head back home, he implored, his voice gentle yet filled with concern.
In response, Lucia had a servant bring a pack of milk to him, explaining, âI had this brought for you while you were resting.
Iâll leave once you finish it.
â
She couldnât stand to see her only grandson neglecting his own health as he stayed by Stellaâs side, day and night.
His well-being was hanging by a thread, and she knew he couldnât continue like this much longer.
She watched patiently as Matthew drank the milk, and only then did she reluctantly rise to leave.
Before leaving, she left him with a stern instruction.
âStay in touch constantly.
I want to be updated about Stellaâs condition the moment there is any news.
â
âOkay.
â Matthew agreed readily.
âPlease ensure that Stellaâs grandfather remains unaware of Stellaâs situation for now.
Heâs recently recovered from a severe illness, and Iâm afraid that this news might be too much for him to handle.

âI understand,â Lucia assured him, her eyes reflecting her shared concern.
Once Lucia had left, a nurse approached Matthew with news that he could visit Stella.
As he stood, a wave of nausea and abdominal pain struck him, the result of two days without proper nutrition.
Pausing to collect himself, he eventually managed to put on his clothes and make his way into Stellaâs room.
To his relief, Stellaâs complexion appeared slightly improved, with a faint hint of color returning to her face, and her fingers felt warm to the touch.
Gently taking her hand in his, Matthew leaned down and gave her a soft ki*s on the lips, whispering, âGrandma was here just a while ago.
Everyone is eagerly waiting for you to wake up.
â
Lifting his gaze to look at Stella, he pleaded softly, âPlease, donât worry us any longer.
Wake up soon, okay?â
In that moment, he felt a slight movement in Stellaâs finger.
At first, Matthew thought it was his imagination playing tricks on him, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was real.
Energized by hope, he quickly stood and rushed to the door, calling out excitedly, âDoctor! Come quickly!â
