Chapter 928
When Love Comes Late
Stella shut her eyes tight as if to shut out Mateoâs questions.
In the darkness that followed, a memory from her past flashed before her.
She couldnât tell if it was a dream or reality.
She envisioned a man and a woman.
The man lay bloodied on the ground, and the woman, struggling to breathe, clutched Stellaâs hand.
âNo⦠Please donât leave me,â Stella shouted, her breath catching in her throat.
In that fleeting moment, the womanâs face became clear to Stella.
She had a kind face and tangled hair.
Her body was covered in wounds of varying depths.
âIâm sorry⦠Iâm so sorryâ¦â Stella murmured, tears streaming down her cheeks as she succumbed to unconsciousness.
âStellaâ¦â Matthewâs breath hitched, and he glanced down at Stella, only to find her already unconscious.
Tears streaked her face, giving her a deathly pallor.
Startled, Matthew embraced her tightly.
âStella, wake up.
â
But his plea was met with silence.
Turning to Mateo with a mix of concern and accusation, Matthew asked, âWhatâs happening? Why did she faint?â
âHer reaction was expected,â Mateo replied calmly, while turning off the car accident video.

âThese methods are too extreme for her,â Matthew said in a hushed tone, his worry evident.
Mateo remained impassive.
âThis is just the first treatment.
Her stress reaction is normal.
Donât worry.
I know how to handle it and when to stop.
â
Matthew frowned, somewhat reassured by Mateoâs assurance.
However, a pang of guilt pierced him as he observed Stellaâs pale face.
If he had known the treatment would cause such pain, heâd rather chose not to help her recover her memories.
Tenderly stroking Stellaâs face, he turned to Mateo.
âWhat do we do now? When will my wife wake up?â
Mateo handed him a box of medication.
âGive her this.
If she recalls anything before fainting upon waking, it means the treatmentâs effective.
â
Darkened by uncertainty, Matthew accepted the medicine.
âThank you.
Iâll contact you once she wakes.
â
