Chapter 993
When Love Comes Late
She quickly loosened a few buttons on Matthewâs shirt.
âMatthew, do as I say, okay? Breathe in⦠Breathe out.
.
As Matthewâs breathing gradually steadied under her guidance, Leslie played calming music on her phone, hoping to ease his distress further.
After her vigilant care, Matthewâs breathing became more stable.
Though still pale, his complexion showed signs of improvement compared to his earlier state.
Relief washed over Leslie as she sat beside Matthew, grateful he was now stable.
She glanced at him.
His eyes were shut, and the soft light in the elevator cast delicate shadows from his long, thick eyelashes.
The slightly undone collar of his white shirt revealed his sharp collarbone and pale skin.
He didnât look as stern as he usually did.
A warmth crept up Leslieâs cheeks, and she leaned in slightly closer, drawn in by the momentâs intimacy.
Suddenly, the elevator hummed back to life.
The lights flickered as it resumed its slow ascent.
The abrupt return of light and the buzz of the air conditioning caused both of them to squint involuntarily.
Leslie bit her lip as her gaze lingered on Matthew, who was still disoriented.
In a moment of boldness, she closed her eyes and leaned in, her lips inching closer to his.
Matthewâs mind was foggy, and he sensed someone approaching with a scent he disliked.
His instinct was to push her away, yet he lacked the strength.
Suddenly, the elevator doors slid open, revealing Stella, her face etched with worry.
There sat Matthew, slumped on the floor, with Leslie beside him.
She leaned over him, almost as if about to ki*s him.
His suit lay discarded nearby, the top three of his shirt buttons undone, hinting at something.
Stellaâs gaze fixed on Leslie, her voice icy.
âWhatâs going on here?â
Startled, Leslie snapped back to reality, feigning calm.
âMatthewâs unwell.
I was just administering first aid and about to do CPR.
â
Noticing Mateo, who stood behind Stella, she blurted out, âDad!â
Stellaâs lips tightened.
It was clear to her that Leslie harbored feelings for Matthew, but Leslieâs defense seemed flawless, and she hadnât crossed any Lines.
Out of respect for Mateo, Stella held back any confrontation.
âThanks, then,â Stella said, a polite smile on her face as she stepped into the elevator.
