Chapter 998
When Love Comes Late
Matthew gave her a helpless look.
âIâll be upstairs then.
I have to deal with something anyway.
â
Lucia snorted, turned around and walked to the kitchen with Stella.
âGrandma, do you want to eat anything in particular?â Stella asked while opening the fridge.
âIâm fine with anything.
â Lucia watched her; Stella looked thin and drained.
âYouâve been through a lot.
Itâs all because of Matthew not protecting you well.
â
Stella paused.
âGrandma, I promise heâs doing a good job.
The Clark family is very important in Seamarsh, so being Matthewâs wife naturally comes with a bit of pressure.
After figuring out his identity I prepared myself for what was to come.
â
Lucia could do nothing but sigh.
She felt sorry for Stella.
âIâm glad you feel this way.
It really is a lot of pressure to marry a rich man.
Make sure to come to me if Matthew does anything stupid.
Iâll be sure to teach him a good lesson.
â
âDonât worry Grandma.
â Stella chuckled lightly.
The night when Matthew proposed to her flashed through her mind causing her cheeks to turn bright pink.
She quickly turned away from Lucia and placed the vegetable in the bowl.
âHe treats me well.
â
âThatâs lovely to hear.
Lucia nodded, satisfaction written all over her face.
The kitchen fell silent.
The only sound being the water running from the tap.
When Stella was about to wash the vegetables, a thought popped in her head.
âGrandma? I have a question.
â
âYes?â Lucia asked.
âWhy exactly was Matthew called Maverick?â Stella had always wanted to ask.
Lucia smiled softly.
âHis mother named him Maverick before he came to the Clark family.
His grandfather requested for his name to be changed to Matthew, but he still kept the name Maverick and used it when he married you to be carefulâ¦â
Realizing she might have said too much, Lucia frowned.
She grew worried that Stella might get upset and start overthinking.
âStella, donât be upset.
Back then, I and his grandfather decided on the marriage.
Matthew was against it at firstâ¦â
Luciaâs nerves worsened the more she tried to explain.
She began to panic a bit.
She had good intentions and didnât want things to get ugly.
