The king's decree had crushed Jeffrey's dream of seeking refuge in Tsulu.

Not only that, it appeared that the royalty had attempted to use the opportunity to wrestle power

from the military and diminish its influence, as well as deliver a blow to the mafia.

In fact, the entire episode was a struggle for power between the royalty and the military. Jeffrey

Synder alone was not worth the attention otherwise.

It was Miley who informed Alyssa about the happenings, but Alyssa had it all figured out early on.

What concerned her the most was Inigo Montoye, the military personnel whom Miguel had ratted

on.

The more she pondered about the matter, the more doubtful she became. However, her most

immediate worry was Jasper's condition rather than figuring out the mastermind.

For the time being, Jeffrey was in jail, awaiting a transfer.

Back in Solana City, Cyrus had informed his superior and rushed to Tsulu overnight to repatriate

Jeffrey.

At midnight, the hospital corridor buzzed with activity, but silence hung in the air.

Landon and Axel had been busy taking calls in the corridor.

Axel was busy relaying updates to Cyrus, who was en route to Tsulu. Landon was assuring Angelina

of his safety while taking a glimpse of Lauren, who was fast asleep.

Staring keenly at Lauren's face through the screen, he nearly shed a tear from missing her too much.

Tearing up, he gently traced her face and closed his eyes as he kissed the screen.

Suddenly, Axel inched closer and clicked his tongue. "Eww! Are you kissing the screen now? That's

so cheesy."

Startled, Landon yelped and immediately hung up as he did not want to wake Lauren. He retorted,

"What's wrong with you? You seem to find fault with everything I do.”

"That's because you're an easy target.” Axel dug his ears and teased Landon. "I'd rather stay single

than be in love if that's how I'm going to behave.”

"With a mouth like yours, you'll be forever alone. Any poor lady who dates you will grow sick of

dealing with you," Landon snapped angrily.

"Keep going,” Axel replied with a playful lift of the brow. "Say more, and I'll tell your lovely girlfriend

how you were once crazy for Lyse. I bet she won't be very pleased to hear that. Hahaha!"

What the heck? How petty of him!

Landon curled his fists but kept his mouth shut, fearful that Axel might follow through and upset

Lauren

"I don't understand why Jasper is even friends with you. Besides being slow in relationships, he's a

pretty arrogant guy as well," Axel mused, nearly referring to Jasper as a dumbass

Landon defended himself, saying, "Jasper would have suffered from loneliness without me by his

side over these years!"

Ignoring Axel's jabs, he sympathized with Landon, saying, "Do you really think Jasper dislikes

making friends? He just struggles with it."

Pausing between drags of his cigarette, Axel inquired with genuine curiosity, "Why? Does he have

any psychological issues?"

"Hey, be nice," Landon protested and glared at him.

"If he were mentally sound, he wouldn't have abandoned Lyse and cheated on her with that Gardner

bitch."

However, after all they had gone through, Axel had long put down his grudge against Jasper.
