S2 66. Are You Two Dating?

“Don’t tease me,” Barbara furrowed her eyebrows, pretending to be

annoyed.

Before Barbara had finished explaining, Philip locked her lips. Her eyes suddenly widened. The monitor machine started to flicker, showing a heart rate that had risen drastically.

When Philip gave her some distance, Barbara immediately gasped for breath. Her mouth slightly opened, trembling as if she was unsure about which statement to make.

“So, what do you think?” Philip whispered with a faint smile. “Should I call Nora now? We can do that over and over again if she doesn’t

come.”

Barbara blinked faster. Her brain could no longer function normally. When Philip came closer, she even closed her eyes, learning how to greet him.

Unfortunately, the door slammed in a sudden. As Philip and Barbara gasped, someone shouted, “You…! How dare you take advantage of my daughter!”

Barbara sighed in disbelief. “Dad?”

Philip spontaneously stood up straight. His two hands were raised in

the air.

“Please don’t be angry yet, Sir. This is not what you imagined.”

However, Paul was already filled with anger. He grabbed Philip by the collar of his shirt and yanked him hard. “You insolent brat!”

Before Paul threw a punch, Barbara collected her voice. “Dad!”

Paul’s fist froze in the air. With shoulders rising and falling, he turned his head. Barbara was trying to get up from the bed.

“Please don’t hit Philip. It’s not his fault.”

Carried away by his emotions, Paul didn’t realize his daughter was wincing in pain. “Don’t defend this insolent man, Darling. He has taken advantage of you.”

Seeing that Philip didn’t try to fight back, Barbara panicked even more. Closing her eyes, she stated, “I love him!”

Silence froze the air. The echo of the girl’s voice lingered on their

minds.

“I love Philip,” Barbara repeated, worried that her father had failed to catch her words.

Paul was stunned. With his eyes fully open, he looked at Philip and his daughter alternately. “Are you guys… dating?”

Philip nodded stiffly. Being face to face with Paul was different with facing Melanie. He felt he had to be more careful.

“Impossible,” Paul sighed, shaking his head vaguely.

Philip swallowed hard. With a hesitant movement, he removed Paul’s hand from his collar.

“I’m sorry, Sir. I know I owe you an explanation. But right now, may we

focus on your daughter?”

Paul turned his head to the side. Seeing that Barbara was sitting

hunched over, he rushed to her. “What’s wrong, Darling? Does your

wound hurt?”

Meanwhile, Philip swiftly guided Barbara’s shoulders to lean back. Paul was amazed when he saw that action.

“Does it hurt? Should I call a nurse?”

Barbara shook her head. While panting, she whispered, “I just need to rest. It’ll be gone soon.”

Philip knew that Barbara was actually afraid of injections. Therefore, without further ado, he loosened the girl’s clothes, checked the bandage for blood leaking.

Paul’s eyes could not be wider. “You don’t know any manners, hmm?”

Philip flinched. Quickly, he took his hand away from Barbara. “Sorry, Sir. I’m just afraid if the wound opens again.”

“But you have no right to touch my daughter!”

“Dad,” Barbara called weakly. “Please, stop cornering Philip. Did you come here just to scold him?”

Paul softened. “No, Darling. Frank called me this morning. He told m everything. I came here because I was worried. How are you now?

Barbara’s furrowed eyebrows were now accompanied by a smile. Much better. Thanks to Philip.”

Paul glanced to the side. His expression returned to cynicism. “He’s not a doctor. Why are you getting better because of him?”

“I was able to survive because of his help. He was the one who took me to the hospital. He waited for me to have an operation. He even looked after me all night. I wouldn’t have survived without him.”

Paul let out a long breath, but the look in his eyes was still the same.” Aren’t you the reason my daughter was injured? If it weren’t for you, Melanie wouldn’t be carrying a knife.”

Philip’s smile shrank. His two hands were pressed together politely in

front of his stomach.

“I’m sorry, Sir. I realize I wasn’t firm enough last night. If I had just snatched the knife from your wife, Barbara wouldn’t have been hurt.”

Paul was pensive. He didn’t expect the young man in front of him to respond like that.

“Actually, what is your position at Frank’s house? Why are you so close to my daughter?”

Philip’s nerves got tensed. He didn’t expect the interrogation to be so quick.

“I am the head of security and service at the Harper residence. Apart from that, I am also the assistant to Young Master and Young Lady

Harper.”

Paul’s eyes narrowed. “What are your skills?”

Barbara quickly interjected. “Dad, didn’t you come to visit me? St asking those strange things.”

“This is a serious question, Barbara. If this man is your boyfriend must ensure his quality.”

“But not now,” Barbara muttered, sounding like a grunt. “What about your company? Didn’t you say you couldn’t leave it? Did you abandon it for today?”

Paul knew it was just a diversion.

“That’s because I see Barbara as an admirable figure, Sir.”

“Admirable?” Paul looked dissatisfied. “My daughter can’t cook, take care of the house, or work. Which aspect do you find admirable?”

“What are your skills, hmm? What can you give my daughter that makes you dare to date her?”
