Chapter 236
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S2 66. Are You Two Dating?
âDonât tease me,â Barbara furrowed her eyebrows, pretending to be
annoyed.
âI didnât tease you, but I trained you not to be embarrassed. We have to be ready when the twins find out about our relationship. So, Philip approached. His breath now tickled Barbaraâs cheek. âShould I ask
Nora not to come?â
As Barbaraâs heart pounded harder, her hand gripped the blanket tighter. âl-if you promise to close your eyes, I donât mind. But you have to remember. We are not husband and wife yet. My brother said-
Before Barbara had finished explaining, Philip locked her lips. Her eyes suddenly widened. The monitor machine started to flicker, showing a heart rate that had risen drastically.
When Philip gave her some distance, Barbara immediately gasped for breath. Her mouth slightly opened, trembling as if she was unsure about which statement to make.
âSo, what do you think?â Philip whispered with a faint smile. âShould I call Nora now? We can do that over and over again if she doesnât
come.â
Barbara blinked faster. Her brain could no longer function normally. When Philip came closer, she even closed her eyes, learning how to greet him.
Unfortunately, the door slammed in a sudden. As Philip and Barbara gasped, someone shouted, âYouâ¦! How dare you take advantage of my daughter!â
Barbara sighed in disbelief. âDad?â
Philip spontaneously stood up straight. His two hands were raised in
the air.
âPlease donât be angry yet, Sir. This is not what you imagined.â
However, Paul was already filled with anger. He grabbed Philip by the collar of his shirt and yanked him hard. âYou insolent brat!â
Before Paul threw a punch, Barbara collected her voice. âDad!â
Paulâs fist froze in the air. With shoulders rising and falling, he turned his head. Barbara was trying to get up from the bed.
âPlease donât hit Philip. Itâs not his fault.â
Carried away by his emotions, Paul didnât realize his daughter was wincing in pain. âDonât defend this insolent man, Darling. He has taken advantage of you.â
Seeing that Philip didnât try to fight back, Barbara panicked even more. Closing her eyes, she stated, âI love him!â
Silence froze the air. The echo of the girlâs voice lingered on their
minds.
âI love Philip,â Barbara repeated, worried that her father had failed to catch her words.
Paul was stunned. With his eyes fully open, he looked at Philip and his daughter alternately. âAre you guys⦠dating?â
Philip nodded stiffly. Being face to face with Paul was different with facing Melanie. He felt he had to be more careful.
âImpossible,â Paul sighed, shaking his head vaguely.
Philip swallowed hard. With a hesitant movement, he removed Paulâs hand from his collar.
âIâm sorry, Sir. I know I owe you an explanation. But right now, may we
focus on your daughter?â
Paul turned his head to the side. Seeing that Barbara was sitting
hunched over, he rushed to her. âWhatâs wrong, Darling? Does your
wound hurt?â
Meanwhile, Philip swiftly guided Barbaraâs shoulders to lean back. Paul was amazed when he saw that action.
âDoes it hurt? Should I call a nurse?â
Barbara shook her head. While panting, she whispered, âI just need to rest. Itâll be gone soon.â
Philip knew that Barbara was actually afraid of injections. Therefore, without further ado, he loosened the girlâs clothes, checked the bandage for blood leaking.
Paulâs eyes could not be wider. âYou donât know any manners, hmm?â
Philip flinched. Quickly, he took his hand away from Barbara. âSorry, Sir. Iâm just afraid if the wound opens again.â
âBut you have no right to touch my daughter!â
âDad,â Barbara called weakly. âPlease, stop cornering Philip. Did you come here just to scold him?â
Paul softened. âNo, Darling. Frank called me this morning. He told m everything. I came here because I was worried. How are you now?
Barbaraâs furrowed eyebrows were now accompanied by a smile. Much better. Thanks to Philip.â
Paul glanced to the side. His expression returned to cynicism. âHeâs not a doctor. Why are you getting better because of him?â
âI was able to survive because of his help. He was the one who took me to the hospital. He waited for me to have an operation. He even looked after me all night. I wouldnât have survived without him.â
Paul let out a long breath, but the look in his eyes was still the same.â Arenât you the reason my daughter was injured? If it werenât for you, Melanie wouldnât be carrying a knife.â
Philipâs smile shrank. His two hands were pressed together politely in
front of his stomach.
âIâm sorry, Sir. I realize I wasnât firm enough last night. If I had just snatched the knife from your wife, Barbara wouldnât have been hurt.â
Paul was pensive. He didnât expect the young man in front of him to respond like that.
âActually, what is your position at Frankâs house? Why are you so close to my daughter?â
Philipâs nerves got tensed. He didnât expect the interrogation to be so quick.
âI am the head of security and service at the Harper residence. Apart from that, I am also the assistant to Young Master and Young Lady
Harper.â
Paulâs eyes narrowed. âWhat are your skills?â
Barbara quickly interjected. âDad, didnât you come to visit me? St asking those strange things.â
âThis is a serious question, Barbara. If this man is your boyfriend must ensure his quality.â
âBut not now,â Barbara muttered, sounding like a grunt. âWhat about your company? Didnât you say you couldnât leave it? Did you abandon it for today?â
Paul knew it was just a diversion.
âI still have several trusted men. So, can excuse myself for a moment. And because my time is limited, I must get as clear
information as possible.â His gaze turned again to Philip. âWhat do you see in this man?â
âDadâ¦.â
âWhat attracts you to my daughter?â
Philip swallowed hard. The interrogation this time was much tenser than the interrogations he had before.
âThatâs because I see Barbara as an admirable figure, Sir.â
âAdmirable?â Paul looked dissatisfied. âMy daughter canât cook, take care of the house, or work. Which aspect do you find admirable?â
âHer personality, Sir. Even though sheâs sometimes curt and spoiled, she has a big heart. She dares to admit her mistakes and is willing to fix them. She also never leaves the people she loves, even though they have let her down once.â
Paulâs eyebrows moved down. Philipâs bluntness had broken down his
defenses.
âYou mean it was me and Melanie who let her down?â
Philip gasped. He just realized what he had answered. âSorry, Sir. I didnât mean-â
âWhat are your skills, hmm? What can you give my daughter that makes you dare to date her?â
Philipâs shoulders tensed again. He just remembered that Barba grew up in a materialistic environment. Little by little, the look in hi eyes turned sad.
