Chapter 237
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S2 67. Interrogation for Philip
âMy parents are not as rich as you, Sir. Since they died, I had to be independent. But thatâs what made me strong,â Philip said sadly.
But a second later, his hands clenched into fists. His gaze was tinged
with confidence.
âMy skills are not many. I can only fight, swim across the strait, or jump from a plane. But I can make sure that your daughter is safe with me.â
âSo you have nothing to support my daughter?â
âDad,â Barbara grimaced.
Philip blinked stiffly. âI have an apartment and some savings. And with my current salary, I think your daughter can live well.â
âYou mean the inherited apartment?â Paulâs eyebrows rose.
Barbara sighed faintly. Her worry grew deeper. However, seeing Philip shake his head, she was amazed.
âNo, Sir. My own apartment. I started paying it in installments whe worked as a bodyguard for the Harper family. Itâs not one buildi just one floor. But soon, the installments will be paid off.â
âHow much do you have in savings?â
Barbaraâs admiration was suddenly shattered. âYour questions are too much, Dad,â she whispered.
However, Paul raised his hand. âNo, Darling. This is a fair question. I need to know what your future looks like. I canât possibly hand you over to a man who canât support his family.â
âIs a billion enough? I spent quite a lot on the apartment in
installments.â
While Paul dropped his jaw, Barbara sighed in disbelief, âYouâve been saving since you were born?â
âIâve only been able to save since working at Savior. Thatâs the rest of my expenses. Am I not enjoying life enough?â Philip muttered at the
end.
Barbara shook her head and chuckled. âI think my mother and I need to learn saving from you. You are great, Philip.â
âWhatâs so great? He holds three positions at once, and he doesnât like shopping. Itâs natural that he has that much savings.â
While Barbara scowled, Paul stepped forward. His hand was placed on Philipâs shoulder.
âPlease look after my daughter! I canât take her home because thereâs no one to look after her there. But here, can I entrust the task to you?â
Philipâs eyes widened. He glanced at Barbara briefly. The girl also wore the same expression.
âYou approve of our relationship?â Barbara sighed.
Paul smiled. âYes. Isnât this man the one who made you chan think thereâs no harm in giving him a chance.â
Philip let out a sigh of relief. With a wider curve of his lips, he nod firmly. âThank you, Sir. I wonât let you down. I will take care of Barba the best I can.â
Suddenly, Paulâs finger pointed upwards. âBut remember! I gave you trust, not freedom. If you dare to do anything to my daughter, you will regret it.â
Philip straightened his back. His chin was slightly raised, âDonât
worry, Sir. I canât possibly hurt her. I will protect her with all my soul.â
Chuckling, Paul patted Philipâs arm. Barbara could see the happy look in her fatherâs eyes.
âDad, thank you for accepting Philip,â Barbara sighed, full of emotion.
Paul smiled. Carefully, he hugged his daughter. âI will do anything for your happiness, Darling.â
While closing her eyes, Barbara soaked in the warmth. She was grateful that her father was different from her mother.
âSorry I made you worry,â she whispered.
âItâs not your fault, Darling. It was your mother who went too far. Itâs no wonder Frank sent her to a rehabilitation center. She really needs
mental healing.â
Barbaraâs smile suddenly disappeared. Her eyes trembled, waiting for an explanation. âRehabilitation center?â
While Philip sighed heavily, Paul froze. âYour brother hasnât told you?â
Paul just realized he had revealed a secret. Knitting his eyebrows, he stroked his daughterâs hair.
âI think Frank didnât want to burden you. He was forced to send h there. Her actions could no longer be tolerated. She could end up harming others if she continued.â
Barbara was pensive. Her heart was blue. âI canât imagine Mom is in that kind of place.â
âDonât worry, Darling. Frankâs decision was right. Your mother is sick. Thatâs the best way for her.â
Barbaraâs face darkened. No more light radiated from her eyes.
âNo wonder Kara said that whoever gets better first can visit the others. It turns out Iâm not the only one being treated.â
Barbaraâs lips began to tremble. She quickly bit it so as not to invite
sadness.
âWhy didnât I suspect anything earlier? Brother even said clearly that he asked an expert to treat Momâs mental condition.â
Suddenly, Barbara let out a sigh of disgust. âI am now not only the daughter of a criminal, but also the daughter of a mad woman?â
Philip grabbed Barbaraâs hand. âHey, your mom isnât crazy. Sheâs just a little shaken up.â
Barbaraâs eyes filled with tears. She didnât expect Philip to comfort
her.
âArenât you embarrassed about dating someone with a mental disorder?â Her voice was hoarse.
Paul quickly interjected. âWhy say that, my daughter? You are different from your mother.â
âBut Iâm embarrassed, Dad. What will people say if they find out? Where will I put my face? I can barely stand facing Philip.â
âHey,â Philip wiped Barbaraâs tears, âyou know what? You should think about what people think. They donât really care about you.â
Paul remained silent, listening to how Philip comforted his daugh
âThose who truly care about you will never insult you. Your broth your sister-in-law, the twins, and me. Have we ever insulted you? No right?â
While Barbaraâs chin twitched, Philip formed a smile. âIs our support not enough for you?â
âOf course enough, but-â
âThen donât be sad anymore, hmm? Your niece and nephew will be
disappointed if they find out that their consolation failed.â
Seeing how Barbara stopped crying, Paul was stunned. He no longer protested when Philip buried a kiss on her temple. In fact, he was grateful for his presence. Barbara now had another shoulder to lean
After leaving the hospital, Paul drove to a rehabilitation center. His expression was flat, his hands clenched tight. Arriving at a room, he sighed heavily.
âDo you regret your actions now?â
The pale-faced woman sitting by the window turned her head. Her withered eyes widened when she saw Paul.
âMy husbandâ¦.â
Unexpectedly, Melanie dropped from the chair. After crawling, she grabbed Paulâs leg.
âPlease get me out of here. Iâll really go crazy if I keep being locked up like this.â
Paul looked at Melanie coldly. âDid I hear correctly? You called me your husband?â
âYes, donât you still love me? I still need you too. Besides, our divo papers havenât been processed yet. Yesterday I signed it by force. not legal.â
Paul snorted. âForce? I heard you admitted that you were no longer my wife in order to maintain your inheritance. Now you eat your own shit?â
Melanie shook her head. Her look became even more pitiful.
âI did it for us, Darling. If I get the inheritance, I can help your company. Our economy can recover and we can live in peace again.â
Paul smiled disdainfully. âYouâre really shameless, hmm? How many times have I given you opportunities, but you just squandered them. You even called me an incompetent and unreliable husband.â
âNo, Darling. I was blinded by greed at that time. Now I want us to be together again. You still love me, right?â
