Chapter 239
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S2 69. Barbaraâs Choice
âNo.â Barbara quickly covered her mouth with her left hand. âIf my lips were swollen, they would actually look worse.â
Philip raised an eyebrow. âLipstick can make lips swollen? I just
found out.â
Barbara froze. âLipstick?â
âWhatâs in your imagination?â
While Philip smiled, Barbara glanced in another direction. Her chin twitched, waiting for her brain to come up with a defense.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Barbara was silently grateful for the interruption. Quick as lightning, she turned around and exited the toilet. However, when she saw the man who came with the nurse, she froze again.
âMr. Morris?â Barbara sighed softly.
Morris nodded. âGood afternoon, Miss Harris. You seem well.â
At that moment, Philip appeared from the same door. Seeing him Morris smiled faintly.
âOh, sorry to interrupt you guys.â
The blush on Barbaraâs cheeks became more obvious. âItâs not wh you think, Mr. Morris. He was just helping me put the zipper up.â Sh nodded reassuringly.
The nurse there spontaneously covered up laughter. Morris also chuckled.
âEven if itâs what I imagine, thatâs fine. You two make a great couple. Philip is really full of surprises.â
Barbaraâs lips pursed. She glared at Philip secretly. However, the man stepped forward carefree.
âPlease sit down, Mr. Morris. You must have something important to
discuss.â
While the nurse was allowed to leave the room, Morris took the sofa that Philip had pointed to.
âThank you. I really need to convey something regarding the will to Miss Harris.â
Barbaraâs brows furrowed. âTo me?â
Morris put on a bigger smile. After Barbara sat down, he continued, âI have received news about Mrs. Melanie. I feel sorry for her. I hope she will improve quickly.â
Barbara turned still, her expression cold. However, as soon as Philip rubbed her shoulder, she blinked. âThank you, Mr. Morris.â
The notary nodded. âAnd because of her condition, with a heavy heart, I must declare that Mrs. Melanie is not worthy of receiving the
inheritance.â
Barbara nodded. âYes, I understand. The apartment should be h over to the next party. I think he is much more reliable to mana
Morrisâ smile turned warm. âSince you already understand, let m straight to it. Are you willing to accept the apartment, Miss Har
Philip gasped. A strange feeling spread through his heart.
Meanwhile, Barbara was wide-eyed. Her body moved forward, lookin at Morris more closely.
âI am the next party?â
âRowan Harper wrote that Mrs. Melanie can pass on the inheritance
to her heir in unforeseen circumstances. If you refuse, the inheritance will be transferred to the next party.â
Barbara was flabbergasted. After a blink, she glanced at Philip who was standing beside. Realizing that her lover was trying to hide his anxiety, her shoulders suddenly became heavy.
âIf I accept the apartment, do I have to live there?â
âYes, the terms and conditions are still the same. You have to live in the apartment and manage it. There can be no reduction in price or quality in three consecutive months.â
Barbara sighed heavily. âAnd if Iâm gone for more than a week, the asset will be transferred?â she asked hoarsely.
Morris nodded. âExactly right.â
Barbara lowered her gaze. Her nails started to scratch each other.
Her old self would definitely cheer if she got that kind of luck. However, things had been different. She was no longer the same. Accepting the inheritance meant being separated from Philip and her
loved ones.
âWhat do you think, Miss Harris? Are you willing?â
Barbara blinked. Her expression raised a question mark. âIâ¦.â
âDo you mind?â Morris guessed, in disbelief.
Instead of answering, Barbara brought her gaze to Philip. The also looked at her in surprise.
âWhat is it, Baby?â Philip whispered, softly. In his heart, he felt guil because he hoped Barbara would refuse the inheritance.
âIf I take that apartment-â
Barbara held back her words. She felt selfish if she forced Philip to
choose between her and the Harper family. After a quick sigh, she looked back at Morris.
âIâm grateful to have this good opportunity. But sorry, I canât accept it.â
Philipâs jaw dropped and the notaryâs eyes widened,
âYou refuse it? Do you know how much the apartment is?â
Barbara smiled, shaking her head innocently. âAll I know is that it must be very expensive. But, Iâm just starting a new life here.â
Little by little, Barbaraâs gaze turned sad. Her mind wandered.
âI got a warm new family, sincere friends, and a very caring lover.â
After one slow blink, the corners of her lips turned up. âIf I moved, I would have to part with them and start over from scratch. I wouldnât necessarily be as happy as I am now.â
âSo, you gave up the luxury apartment to live with them?â
Barbara put on a smile. âWhat does it mean to have abundant wealth but a lonely heart? I donât want to be enslaved by greed.â
Morris was amazed. It was hard to believe that Barbara was th person he had met months ago.
he
âYouâve changed a lot, Miss Harris.â
Barbara nodded. âYes, because of that, I hope you understand th reason I rejected the inheritance. I would lose out if I had to li that apartment alone. Not to mention the freedom that would be taken away from having to take care of something I donât like. I w to develop and become successful in my own way.â
Morris subconsciously gave her thumbs up. He really saluted Barbar
Meanwhile, Philip secretly took a deep breath. A sense of pride welle up in his heart. After Morris left, he could no longer contain it. He
hugged Barbara and gave her many kisses.
âPhilipâ¦.â Barbara pressed the shoulder that had approached her without warning, afraid that the wound would be more pressed.
But apparently, Philip was much more alert. He hugged her with just the right amount of strength. Not too tight, but still warm.
âThank you for choosing to stay with me. I thought you loved that apartment more.â
Barbara smiled. She loved Philipâs ear-tickling voice, his gentle touch
on the back of her head, and his soul-stirring sincerity. However, Barbara didnât want to show it yet.
âI did it for the twins. Louis and Emily would be sad if I left.â
While returning the distance, Philip squinted. âSo, you didnât choose here because of me?â
Barbara laughed out loud. âIâm just emphasizing that my reason is not just you.â
Philip grumbled, âThough, I would be very happy if I were the main
reason.â
âThen try harder. Love me with all your body and soul. Then I make you the main reason.â
Philip ended his act with a faint laugh. âOkay. I will try to do Young Lady.â
While grabbing Barbaraâs waist, he gave her a gentle-deeper kiss air around them soon became fiery until suddenly, someone ope the door rashly.
