Chapter 267
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S31 10. Sophiaâs Misfortune
âLouis is naughty. Does he think Iâm an adult? Iâm not even as old as Brandon,â Emily grumbled in annoyance.
The others smiled at her. They immediately sat around her on the mat, ready to listen to a story that tickled their hearts.
âIsnât their family very cute?â Sophia sighed, breaking Dianaâs thoughts. The old woman blinked then turned to her.
âSophie, since when have you been standing there? Come on, sit next to me. Iâm enjoying the morning air. Abigail said I should relax more today.â
Sophia smiled slightly. After placing two cups of tea on the table, she took an empty chair which also faced the back yard-facing the Harper family to be more precise.
âWow, you made me tea again? You are the best, Sweet Girl.â Diana lifted a cup and took a small sip.
âErm, this chamomile tea is really delicious. Youâre good at brewing it, Sophie. And you really understand when Iâm having trouble sleeping.â
The curve of Sophiaâs lips turned stiff. Diana was steering the conversation so as not to discuss the things she wanted to discus
âGrandma, can I ask you something?â
The joy on Dianaâs face froze. Her eyes briefly looked misty. âWhat?â Her vocal cords seemed to be strangled.
âI heard that Frank is your grandson. But why does it seem like there is such a big distance between you? You arenât warm to his children and you arenât friendly to his wife either.â
her fell silent. Her clenched lips trembled to contain the turmoil of
heart.
âPlease donât misunderstand, Grandma. Iâm not asking because I
want to interfere. I just want to reduce your burden.â
Sophia stroked Dianaâs arm. âDo you realize that today you are more easily carried away by emotions? Your eye bags are even thicker. I know that youâre holding something back. So please, share your worries with me. It can make you feel more relieved. If not, I would be very worried about your health.â
The longer Diana stared at Sophia, the greater tremor spread through her body. Before the tea in her hand spilled, she quickly put the cup on
the table.
âIâm fine. Thereâs nothing you need to worry about.â Diana glanced at the yard.
âAre you sure?â
Diana gritted her teeth. âYes.â
Sophia withdrew her hand from Dianaâs arm. Her eyebrows weighed down her forehead.
âDo you know, Grandma?â Her tone sounded desperate. âActually, I owe Frank a favor.â
Dianaâs eyes were lured back to Sophia. âOwe a favor? How is that possible?â
Sophiaâs smile turned wry. While looking at the man who was holding Emily, she let out a long sigh. âOn my wedding day, Finnic had doubts.â
âHe started to doubt you that day?â Diana stared wide-eyed.
Sophia nodded. âYes, it turns out he invited his ex-girlfriend. That woman came and made Finnic even more unsteady.â
âMy God! How shameless that woman is!â
Sophia patted the back of Dianaâs hand, trying to calm her anger.
âThatâs not the focus of our conversation, but Frank. He was the one who convinced Finnic to still marry me.â
Dianaâs forehead grew wrinkled. âWhy do you feel indebted to him? If he hadnât done that, you would have been saved from a wrong marriage.â
âFrank has saved me from embarrassment, Grandma. Imagine if Finnic suddenly canceled the wedding. Where would I put my face? We were on a cruise ship. I couldnât possibly throw myself into the sea to get away from people.â
Diana took a deep breath. The look on her face was still annoyed. Even so, you still donât need to feel indebted to him.â
âFrank is actually kind, Grandma. Heâs the most caring and reliable man Iâve ever known. Because of that, I really hope you donât hate him too much.â
Diana shook her head faintly. Her hands gripped the determination tighter. âIt doesnât change anything, Sophie.â
âI donât know what caused your anger towards him. But, I hope that fact can calm your emotions a little
âHow long have you known him?â Diana said, making Sophia flin slightly.
âSince the day before my wedding day.â
Diana sneered. âYou canât say that you really know someone in such a short time, Sophie. You just havenât seen the hidden spots.â
Sophia sighed in resignation. âI couldnât convince you, apparently.â With a languid look, she grabbed the cup and sipped her tea.
Meanwhile, Diana fell into deeper contemplation. âDoes he really like to interfere?â
Sophia raised an eyebrow and lowered the cup. âWhat do you mean?â
âAre Frank and Finnic good friends?â Diana said, still with knitted eyebrows.
Sophia considered for a moment. âI donât think so.â
âThen how did he convince that bastard to marry you?â
Sophia gasped. The question seemed to clog up her throat.
âAnd why did he care about your marriage? You said you just met at that time,â Diana continued, adding to the burden on Sophiaâs
shoulders.
âAbout that,â Sophia slowly looked down, âI think he was trying to keep the peace.â
âPeace?â
With a bitter smile, Sophia looked up. Her eyes were now filled with tears. âFinnicâs ex-girlfriend is Frankâs wife. There would definitely be a big conflict if Finnic canceled the wedding.â
âWhat?â Dianaâs eyes almost popped out. âThat woman is the cause of your misfortune?â
Sophiaâs back straightened. Her hand rubbed Dianaâs shoulder, hoping it would calm her.
âDonât make it loud, Grandma. I wonât feel comfortable if Kara and
Frank hear.â
Diana snorted. âI didnât judge wrongly. Thereâs something wrong with that woman. It turns out sheâs that bad? She even had the heart to ruin her ex-boyfriendâs marriage to another woman? Who does she
think she is?â
Sophia shook her head. âNo, Grandma. Kara didnât mean it. She came as Frankâs companion. Besides, Finnic invited her.â
âIf she did not come, you would still be happy.â
âAnd we would never meet?â Sophia continued, shrugging one shoulder. While forcing her smile to widen, she took a deep breath.
âNo, Grandma. Even if Kara didnât come to our wedding, Finnic and I would still be separated. He didnât really love me, Grandma. He only saw me as a woman who could compete with his ex-girlfriend. Maybe he wanted revenge.â
With a look of pity, Diana stroked Sophiaâs hair. âI am so sorry you had to suffer such an unfortunate fate.â
âMaybe this is my destiny. We canât change destiny, right?â
For a long time, Diana stared at Sophia without a word. After lowering her hands back to her lap, she began to look at Frank with a face that was hard to describe.
âI hope Iâm as strong as you were.â
Sophia blinked. Her head was slightly forward. âI think you are stronger than me.â
Diana shook her head weakly. âNo, Sophie. Not at all. I used to be too weak.â
Dianaâs tears thickened. Her mind had been absorbed by the past.
