Chapter 272
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S3| 15. Exhausted
âGood girl,â Diana patted Sophieâs cheek before leaving. Barbaraâs grin could no longer be covered. Sophia heard it.
âGrandma treats me too much, doesnât she?â
Barbara raised her eyebrows. She blinked when she saw the guilty look on Sophiaâs face.
âYou realize that?â
Sophia nodded weakly. âActually, Iâm also uncomfortable. Grandma seems unfair. I feel awkward in front of you.â
While sticking a name tag on the hat, Sophia widened her smile. âSo, if thereâs anything I need to do, donât hesitate to tell me, hmm? Iâll definitely help you guys.â
Barbara felt disgusted seeing those fake friendly eyes. She knew exactly what kind of person Sophia was. She had played that role before. However, in order to avoid further conversation, she nodded, forcing a small laugh.
âWas I this bad before?â Barbara thought sadly. âItâs great that Philip wants to accept me.â
Late in the afternoon, Frank and the others returned to the inn. Seeing that the twins were only playing together, he gasped.
âKids, where is Mommy?â
Louis stopped attacking Yemon with his toy sword. Then, he and Emily shrugged their shoulders.
âWe donât know, Daddy. When we woke up, Mommy wasnât here. Maybe she went with the others.â

âThe others arenât here too?â
The twins nodded. âGrandma, Auntie, and Sophia arenât here.â
âDonât worry. They must be at the orphanage. Maybe theyâre busy preparing for a party.â Abigail washed her hands.
âParty?â Louisâ eyes lit up.
âChildren usually play with fireworks and blow trumpets to welcome the new year.â
The twinsâ mouths rounded in unison. âThat will be fun. Can we join in the party later?â
âOf course,â Sophia said, making everyone turn to her. âOnly if you guys are still staying here.â
âSophie! Youâre home!â
Emily sounded enthusiastic. Sophia smiled, thinking that the little girl was happy to see her. However, watching the two toddlers run past her, the curve of her lips became fragile.
âMommyâs home, Mommyâs home. The twinsâ voices suddenly felt annoying in her ears.
Frank noticed the change in expression. With a faint snort, he walked towards the front door.
However, instead of seeing Kara, they found two tractors without drivers. Far ahead, Kara and Barbara walked while waving.
âMommy! Auntie!â The twins jumped up and down. They waved back enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, Frankâs face was covered in anger. When Kara almost arrived, he asked, âDid you go to the orphanage on foot?â
âGoing home too,â Barbara interjected, grumbling.
Kara held Barbaraâs arm and shook her head faintly. âThe orphanage isnât far. Letâs just say weâre exercising.â
Frank knew there was a hidden meaning to that gesture. However, before he had time to speak, the twins had already embraced Kara.
âMommy, where have you been? Louis and I were surprised there was no one when we woke up.â
âEmily almost cried. Luckily I was able to cheer her up.â
âIs that so?â Kara rubbed her childrenâs heads. âSorry, Grandma took Mommy and the others to the orphanage earlier. Mommy didnât want to wake you up.â
âNext time, take us with you, Mommy. Itâs okay for us to skip naps. Normal days are like that.â
Emily nodded, supporting her brotherâs words.
âBut itâs a holiday, Little Bee. Your chance to rest.â
Louis shook his head firmly. âNo. This is our chance to have fun.â
Chuckling, Kara ruffled her sonâs hair. Then, her gaze turned to Frank.
âHave you guys been home long?â She reached out her hand. Frank welcomed her into his arms.
âNo. Just now. I was surprised to see them playing alone.â
Kara put on a sad expression. âSorry. I didnât mean to leave the twins. I didnât know Iâd be gone this long.â
Frank couldnât help but smile at that adorable expression. âItâs okay, Kara. The twins enjoyed their chance to be independent.â
Frank kissed Karaâs forehead. In that very second, he gasped. Quickly, he pressed Karaâs forehead to his cheek.

âYou have a fever?â
Karaâs eyes widened. âFever?â She checked her cheeks and then her neck. âI donât think so.â
Frank cupped Karaâs cheek and then her forehead. Barbara was
moved to take her hand out of her coat pocket and join in the
inspection.
âTsk, I told you thereâs no need to force yourself. This must be due to fatigue and cold,â Barbara scolded.
âFatigue?â Frankâs eyebrows lowered further.
Barbara nodded. âGrandma asked Kara to clean the hall alone. She kept shoveling snow for three hours.â
Frankâs lips pressed tightly. Kara could feel his breath.
âFrank, itâs okay. I donât mind. Iâm actually happy to help the children in the orphanage.â
âBut you got sick, Mommy. You shouldâve rested when you started to feel tired.â Emily pouted.
Meanwhile, Louis puffed out his cheeks. âGrandma is so mean. She shouldnât have asked Mommy to work alone. If I had known, I would have helped Mommy. I like shoveling snow.â
âWho called me mean?â
Louis flinched. When he turned around, he immediately saw Dianaâs fierce expression.
âGrandma?â Heâs a bit shrunken. However, after clenching his fists, he straightened his shoulders. âWhy did Grandma make Mommy work so hard? Mommy has a fever.â
Kara quickly grabbed Louis. âLittle Bee, donât say that. Itâs rude. After
all, Grandma Diana is much older than you.â
Instead of being offended, Diana just sneered. âJust working a little, you already have a fever. Youâre very weak.â
Emily puffed out her cheeks too. âMommy is not weak, Grandma.
Anyone would get sick if they worked hard in this cold weather.â
Diana shook her head, dismissing that opinion. âNo need to debate. Prepare dinner for me now.â
âWhy didnât Grandma just ask Sophia?â Frank interrupted with
furrowed brows. His arm wrapped around Karaâs shoulder, protectively.
âSophia is my special guest. How could I let her hands get dirty with meat and vegetables. As for your wife, she needs to spend more time in the kitchen.â
Before Frank could reply, Diana waved his hand. âCome on! Get moving. When else can you practice your cooking skills?â
Frank took a deep breath. He glanced at the twins then gave them
order.
âKids, take Mommy to the bedroom to rest. Daddy can trust you to look after her, right? If Mommy needs something, get it for her.â
Louis put four fingers to the tips of his eyebrow. âReady, Daddy. If Mommy needs a fever compress, we can prepare it too.â
Meanwhile, Emily had grabbed Karaâs fingers. âCome on, Mommy. Letâs go to the room.â
Louis hurriedly took Karaâs other hand. âCome on, Mommy. Let us help you.â
However, Kara didnât move and furrowed her eyebrows. She realized that Diana had just snorted.
âItâs just a mild fever, Little Angels. Iâm okay. I can rest after preparing dinner.â
âYou donât need to think about that. I can prepare it.â Frank stroked Karaâs hair.
âI can help.â Barbara raised a hand.
Dianaâs breath became louder. âDidnât you hear me? I said I wanted Kara to prepare dinner.â
âKara has a fever, Grandma. Why donât you let her rest?â Frank sighed heavily.
Diana growled. âYoung people nowadays have lots of excuses. Even if they are a little sick, they have to rest all day.â
At that moment, Sophia suddenly appeared, stroking Dianaâs back. Grandma, whatâs wrong? Why are you so angry?â Her expression looked worried.
