Chapter 273
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S31 16. Make Dinner
Seeing her favorite person, Dianaâs face immediately brightened. âItâs nothing, Sophie. Itâs no big deal. Itâs just that Kara refused my request to make dinner.â
âIt wasnât Mommy who refused, It was us who forbade her. Mommy has a fever,â Louis explained in an annoyed tone.
Sophia blinked in annoyance. However, two seconds later, the sound of her laughter was heard.
âGosh, Grandma. If Kara canât make it, Iâm willing to prepare dinner. You donât need to be angry.â
âSophie, why are you siding with them? I just want this woman to cook. Canât you just fulfill an old womanâs wish?â
Confusion spread in the air. No one dared to refute Dianaâs last sentence. Like it or not, Kara made a decision-to give in again.
âOkay, Iâll prepare dinner. Do you have any special orders, Grandma?â
Dianaâs chin lifted along with her eyebrows. âAnything. Whatâs
important is that you cook. Not someone else.â
âOkay.â Kara nodded while secretly glancing at Frank, asking for him not to say anything else.
Only after Diana and her favorite guest left did he whisper, âYou canât force yourself, Kara.â
âYes, what if Mommyâs fever gets worse?â Emily furrowed her brows, exasperated.
Kara smiled and shook her head gently. âDonât worry. I am strong. My body is just adapting to the cold weather. Later the fever will subside.

Now, do you want to help me prepare dinner?â
The twins nodded swiftly. The curve of Karaâs lips widened.
âThen, letâs go to the kitchen. Letâs check whatâs available in the refrigerator. Thereâs still plenty of time, even for the difficult menu.â
Without waiting for orders, Frank and Barbara followed. However, their steps deliberately slowed down.
âBrother, Iâm sorry. I was helpless earlier,â Barbara tugged at Frankâs shirt.
âWhere were you when they bullied Kara?â
Barbara scowled. âGrandma told me to wrap the gifts. She didnât listen when I protested. Trust me, I had done everything I could to protect my sister-in-law.â
Frank sighed faintly. âWell, thatâs okay. But I have to reduce your pocket money.â
Barbara gasped. âYou think Iâm looking after Kara for money?â
She stopped Frankâs steps then crossed her arms. âI protect Kara because she is my sister-in-law. My intentions are sincere.â
âYes, I know. But I still want to cut your pocket money. That way, Iâll be a little less annoyed.â
Barbara snorted in disbelief. âThat is not fair.â
âNow you protest?â
âThatâs because the deduction doesnât make sense. Even though I can earn my own money, I still need extra. The New Yearâs gifts I want to buy for Louis and Emily are expensive.â
Frank smiled slightly. âNow you admit that you expected money from me.â
âI really
the money,â Barbara grumbled. However, a second later,
her expression turned sad. âYou know that marriage costs a lot of money, right? I want to help Philip.â
âPhilip has a lot of savings. What are you worrying about?â
Barbara rolled her eyes upwards. Her lips were slightly forward.
âHe drained his savings to make my dream wedding come true. If our mission went smoothly, I wouldnât feel guilty. But the situation is like this. It feels impossible for us to get close to Grandma. Without that inheritance, Philipâs savings are dying.â
Laughing softly, Frank ruffled Barbaraâs hair. âYour standards are too high, Sister. Even if you spend one billion, the hundreds of millions that are sitting in Philipâs savings are still a lot.â
âSo you still want to cut my pocket money?â
Frank smiled crookedly. âYouâll see. Now letâs go to the kitchen. Donât let Karaâs workload pile up.â
Pouting, Barbara let Frank push her back. Unbeknownst to both of them, Sophia had been watching. A sly smile was carved on her face. <
âThank you, Barbara. You gave me a brilliant idea,â she muttere
Then, she changed course. Other things were much more imp than showing her presence in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, the others began to divide the tasks. Kara took cal the meat, Frank and Barbara peeled the potatoes, while the twins were busy at the sink. Their laughter could occasionally be heard amidst the sound of splashing water.
âLouis, wash them properly. The tomatoes will be flabby if you keep dropping them.â
âIâve tried my best, Emily. But the tomatoes are too big and round.

They roll easily.
âThatâs just your excuse. Look, I can do it even though my hands are smaller than yours.â
On the other side of the kitchen, a pair of siblings was also working
while arguing.
âBrother, you peeled it too deeply. Look, a lot of skin was wasted.â Barbara pointed at the evidence with a knife.
âYouâre the one who didnât peel it deeply enough. Look, your potatoes go black.â.
Barbaraâs brows furrowed. âBut the potatoes that you peeled are also starting to go black.â
Kara smiled at the conversation. âHave you put water in the bowl?â
Frank and Barbara turned their heads in unison. âIsnât it the last step?â
âThe peeled potatoes should be soaked immediately so they donât
turn black.â
Frank and Barbara spontaneously rounded their mouths. Without waiting for orders, Frank brought a bowl towards the twins, asking them to fill it with water.
Meanwhile, Barbara took a potato and took it to Kara. âSister-in-law, did I not remove enough skin?â
Kara smiled amusedly. âYeah, peel it a little deeper.â
Frankâs laughter immediately echoed. âI told you. Iâm the one whoâs right.â
âIs that so?â Barbara reached out, taking one potato from the bowl. The water splashed on Louisâ face.
âPhuh!â Louis spontaneously scooped his face. âAuntie!â
Emily giggled again. âThatâs a payback for playing with the tomatoes all along.â
Ignoring Louisâs groan, Barbara showed Kara the potato. âHow about this?â
Karaâs heart tingled again when she saw the drastically reduced size of the potato. âFrank, youâre peeling it too deep.â
âReally?â
It was Barbaraâs turn to laugh. âWeâre the same, Brother. Youâre no better than me.â
Frankâs lips pursed. When he returned to the table, he didnât dare speak any more.
However, when he was about to continue peeling potatoes, Philip
came in a hurry. His face was a little panicked.
âBarbara, your father called. He asked why your number wasnât active, âPhilip said with a high arched eyebrow.
âHave you got a signal?â Frank and Barbara asked in unison.
Philip nodded. âYes. Come on, hurry! Donât lose the signal.â
Barbara wiped her hands as she walked to the door. âWhereâs cell phone?â She threw the napkin to the table.
âI still hang it on the tree.â
Barbara sighed in disbelief. âYou want me to climb a tree?â
âWhat else can I do? Thatâs the only place my phone can get a signal.â
The twinsâ laughter suddenly filled the air. âI can imagine how much trouble it would be for Auntie to climb a tree.â
âThat would be cute. How about we watch it
or a while?â
Louisâ eyes widened. âThatâs a great idea! Mommy, can we stop for a moment?â
âWeâve finished washing all the vegetables!â Emily placed the last tomato in the basin then raised both hands.
Kara smiled. âYes, Little Angels.â
âWoohoo! Thank you, Mommy!â.
The twins slumped down from the chairs they were standing on. Then, they ran to the front door.
âAuntie, wait for us!â
Kara stared wide-eyed at the speed of the two toddlers. âLittle Bee, dry your hands first!â
Not getting an answer, Kara washed her hands. âFrank, Iâll handle the twins.â
âYeah. Donât forget to bring their hats and gloves too. They wonât be there for a while.â
Kara nodded then hurried to follow She didnât notice that someone was waiting for Frank to be alone.
