Chapter 285
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S31 28. Fragile
âWhatâs the big deal? Grandma doesnât want to know about her ex- husband anymore. Telling her about Rowan will only open up the old wounds,â Sophia said without any guilt.
Jeremy gritted his teeth. âBy you telling her about that, she wonât feel threatened. She wonât close herself off from her own family. She
wonât be haunted by her dark past anymore.â
âWhy donât you just tell her, hmm? Why blame me instead?â Sophiaâs tone rose.
âShe never looked at me. How can I talk to her? She is cold to children as cute as the twins. She is even heartless to pregnant woman. She always thinks badly of us and you are making her condition worse.
Diana sighed in disbelief. The burden on her shoulders was now tens of times heavier. Unable to bear it, she moved away from the wall.
âShe is pregnant? My granddaughter-in-law is pregnant?â
With unsteady steps, Diana went towards the dining room. She stopped near the door, peering through it.
Frank was sitting in the chair that Jeremy usually occupied. He took Kara on his lap, embracing her tenderly. Occasionally, he kissed her cheek. One of his hands moved, stroking her stomach.
âI tortured a pregnant woman even though she was innocent?â
The longer she stared at Kara, the thicker her tears became. Before it spilled, she shifted her gaze. Philips and Barbara were also affectionate. They sat next to each other, whispering and laughing.
âTheir happiness is genuine. How stupid was I to believe it was fake?â Diana thought, clutching her chest. She felt like there was a big hole

in it.
Suddenly, the sound of laughter came from behind. When Diana turned around, the twins widened their eyes. They automatically stopped running.
âGrandma?â Emily sighed with furrowed eyebrows. Slowly, she moved towards Louis, hiding behind him.
Diana quickly wiped away her tears. However, instead of saying hello, she just stood still. The two toddlers in front of her became even tenser.
âG-good morning, Grandma,â Louis said with round eyes. There was absolutely no smile on his face.
Diana tried to answer. However, her lips only trembled.
Louis couldnât help but glance at Emily. âWhat should we do?â he whispered seriously.
âJust go slowly. Thereâs a gap over there. Walk around the edge.â
Louis swallowed hard. Then, he started walking. âExcuse me, Grandma.â
Emily trailed behind him. They walked so close to the wall, keeping as much distance as possible from Diana.
âThese children are afraid of me,â Diana thought sadly.
When they made it through the door, the twins immediately ran towards Frank.
âDaddy, this is the phone you asked for.â Emily handed over the item.
âAnd this is your tablet.â Louis smiled sweetly. However, after one blink, he remembered Diana. âDaddy, we met Grandma earlier. She was standing at the door. Why didnât she come in?â

Before Louis pointed at her, Diana quickly returned to her room. She wasnât ready to face them. Her mistake was too embarrassing.
âWhat have I done?â she sighed as she hid in the darkness. When she opened her eyes, moment of her first meeting with Sophia flashed.
That day, she was suspicious of her. However, Sophiaâs warm and friendly attitude dispelled her doubts. Sophia came as a figure that was both tough and fragile. She grabbed Dianaâs sympathy, making Diana reflect on herself.
âIt turns out she approached me for a reason?â
Diana shook her head. She could not understand her stupidity. âWhy did I trust her so easily? I shouldâve been suspected why she knew so much about me, about the orphanage, even the farm.â
With dreamy eyes, Diana remembered the arrival of Frank and his family.
âI shouldnât compare him to his grandfather. This is all Sophiaâs fault. If only she didnât bring up bad memories, I wouldnât be this rude. And Philipâ¦. How could I kick him out?â
Feeling her head throbbing again, Diana lay down. While staring at the light coming through the window, she pondered and pondered until finally, tears rolled down her temples.
âI am so gentle towards other peopleâs children but why am I so cruel towards my own grandchildren?â Diana swallowed bitterly. Her hands started hitting her own chest.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Diana quickly wiped her
tears. âYes?â
âGrandma,â Abigail poked her head through the door, âtodayâs menu is sandwiches and chicken salad. Which would you like? Both?â

Diana shook her head weakly. âI donât want to eat. Just have it for you guys.â
Abigailâs brows suddenly furrowed. âHow can you not eat? Wait a moment. Iâll take both of them.â
âI said I donât want to eat! Please donât force me.â
Abigail was stunned. She couldnât remember the last time Diana had shouted at her like that.
âOkay. Sorry if I disturb you.â While muttering, Abigail returned to the dining room.
âGrandma said she doesnât want to eat,â she reported to the others.
Sophia, who had just returned, suddenly put on a worried expression. Why?â
Abigail shrugged. âI donât know. Maybe sheâs not in the mood. Her eyes are red like sheâs been crying.â
Sophia sighed in pity. Even though in her heart, she was happy to have the opportunity to get away from Jeremy.
âLet me persuade her to eat.â
Quick as lightning, she took two slices of bread onto a plate. After grabbing a glass of orange juice, she went to Dianaâs room.
âBrother,â Barbara whispered after Sophia was out of sight, âyou havenât told us about the results of your digging.â
Frank, who was joking with the twins, suddenly turned serious. Meanwhile, Abigail raised an eyebrow. âFrank dug up what? Treasure?â
Emily placed a hand next to her mouth. âInformation from Sophia, Abi. Turns out, sheâs evil. Sheâs the one who made Grandma angry and cry.â

âYes, she made Grandma misunderstand us.â Louis whispered too. Abigail was stunned. âSophia? Are you sure sheâs that bad?â
Frank cleared his throat. He did not expect understanding from Abigail.
âBasically, Grandma had a bad past with Grandpa. After they
separated, she really hated him. She once cursed him so he wouldnât be happy or know love.â
âWhat does it have to do with our arrival?â Barbara shook her head faintly.
âGrandma feels threatened. When she sees the harmony of our
family, she feels defeated. It seems like we are reminding her of her past wounds.â
âDoes it mean Grandma will always suffer every time she sees us?â Emily concluded in a heart-wrenching tone.
âSorry, Princess. But yes, Grandma always remembers her bad memories with Grandpa every time she sees us.â
âIs it irreversible?â Louis blinked with teary eyes.
Frank sighed faintly. âIt seems tough. Grandma already hates everyone with the last name Harper.
âWhat do you think, Abi? You have lived with Grandma the longest. You know her best. Can Grandma stop hating us?â Louis mustered up his remaining hope.
Abigail grimaced. âSorry. Iâve never faced her attitude like this. I just got thrown out of her room, remember? The only person she listens to now is Sophia.â
The twins pouted. âShould we just go home? Grandma wonât be happy if we stay here.â
