Chapter 329
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S31 72. Shaken Hope
Frank was silent for a moment. âJust focus on protecting yourself and Ava. I can take care of the rest.â
âHave you contacted Philip?â
âYes, but I will contact him again. I think it would be better for the twins to study from home if the situation is like this.â
âWhat about the other?â
Silence filled the air again. âIâll call them.â
Suddenly, Karaâs voice was heard faintly. âFrankâ¦.â
Jeremy knew the duration of his call would have to end soon. âOkay, donât hesitate to contact me if you need help.â
After a brief mumble, Frank lowered his phone. âWhatâs wrong, Kara?â He tried to stay calm.
Kara handed over her phone. The chat box with Susan was open. âMy mother was watching the news. She said Mrs. Miller had an accident. Her injuries were serious enough that she had to be rushed to the hospital.â
Seeing Karaâs pale face, Frank got up from the chair. Blinking uncertainly, he grasped her thin arms.
âPlease donât be surprised and donât panic.â
Karaâs eyes suddenly widened. Her breath hitched. âWhat is it?â
âThis isnât about the twins. This is about Ava and Jeremy. They just had a traffic accident, but no one was seriously injured. Soon they will receive proper treatment.â
A sigh escaped Karaâs mouth quickly. Before her legs gave way, Frank sat her down in a nearby chair.
âJust calm down, okay?â Frank caressed her face. âRelax. Iâll ask Philip to take the twins home immediately. And since your mother just sent a message, that means sheâs fine. We just need to raise the house security status to alert.â
While catching her breath, Kara gave a limited nod. Her eyes trembled as she listed the people she was worried about on her mind.
âWhat about Barbara?â
The curve of Frankâs lips suddenly turned away. âIsnât she at home?â
Kara shook her head. âShe wanted to surprise Philip. She went to survey the wedding venue alone. Thatâs the reason she didnât accompany the twins to school today.â
Frankâs breath suddenly hitched, as if something was blocking his throat. However, he didnât want to panic. As best as he could, he controlled his lungs. His hand squeezed Karaâs fingers gently.
âLetâs try to contact her. Who knows, Barbara has gone home or canceled her plan. Sheâs spoiled. How can she stand going anywhere alone?â he whispered.
Kara nodded, hoping Frankâs words would come true. However,
seeing his expression when he made the call, her hopes wavered. Whatâs wrong, Frank?â
Frank lowered the phone and blinked tensely. He couldnât possibly lie. âHer number is not active.â
Placing a hand on his hip, Frank tried again. He was now standing with his back to Kara, in case he failed to control his expression.
Finding that Barbaraâs number couldnât be reached, Frank took a deep
breath. His eyes closed, his jaw clenched tightly. When he turned around, he grabbed Karaâs phone.
âLet me borrow it for a moment.â Without thinking twice, Frank made
a quick call.
âMom, how are things over there?â His tone was serious. He even forgot to say hello.
âSafe. Whatâs wrong, Frank?â
âIs Barbara home?â
Susan was silent for a moment. âNo. She left not long after you two
left.â
âHow many bodyguards are with her?â
âNone. She went alone.â
A huge burden suddenly fell on Frankâs shoulders. His breathing
became very heavy. âOkay, when she comes home, can you let me
know?â
âYes.â
âAnd one more thing, please tell the security team to raise the statu
to alert. For the time being, no one comes in and out of the hous
âOkay, Frank. Iâll do it right away.â
After thanking Susan, Frank returned the phone to his wife. âKara, car you help me contact Auntie? Ask her if the situation is safe, then
repeat my instructions earlier.â
Kara nodded in understanding. While she ran errands, Frank returned to his seat. Agilely, his fingers fiddled with the computer. However, no matter how many times he pressed the enter button, the red dot didnât
appear.
âStupid girl. Iâve warned her repeatedly to stay alert. Now sheâs wandering around unsupervised?â
Frank put his hands together in front of his forehead. His eyes were closed, trying to find a solution.
âKara, do you know where Barbaraâs going?â
Kara blinked. âAs far as I remember, she mentioned voting on her account. Try checking her social media. Maybe there are clues there,â Kara explained before she continued talking to Vivian.
Frankâs fingers hit with the keyboard again. Just as Kara finished calling Vivian, the printer beeped. Frank immediately got up to take
the results.
âKara, can you help me again? Please find out which venues Barbara has visited.â He handed her the paper.
Kara nodded. âIâll do it in my room.â She also needed a computer.
However, when she was about to leave, the door opened. A big man
came in carrying a paper bag.
âGood morning, Mr. and Mrs. Harper
Frank and Kara stared wide eyed. âSean?â
The former guard nodded with a small curve of his lips. He had indeed been more expressive since reuniting with his family.
âSorry to interrupt your work, and sorry that I only have time now to stop by. I feel bad about turning down the invitation to the twinsâ party. Therefore, I came to bring gifts for them.â He put the bag in the corner of the sofa.
With a relieved smile, Frank approached the man. âSean, what a coincidence. I need your help.â He grabbed Seanâs strong arms.
âHelp?â
Frank nodded. âYou said you wanted to repay my grandfatherâs kindness, right? I think this is the right moment for you to do so.â
Sean tilted his head slightly. âWhat can I do for you?â
âYou know our dispute with the Moore family? They are starting to threaten us. Jeremy and the nurse who looked after my mother just had an accident. Then Barbara, my sister, has now disappeared.â
âYou want me to look for your sister?â
Frank nodded with expectant eyes. He began to explain the situation, and Kara rushed out, carrying out her duties. The situation was so tense until suddenly, the phone rang interrupting.
Frank rushed to grab his phone. When he saw Philipâs name, his heart pounded hard again. âWhatâs wrong, Phil?â
âSorry, I didnât mean to worry you. The twins are safe, but Iâm feeling uneasy. Why isnât Barbara picking up my calls? Can you check her?â
Frankâs breathing grew heavier. However, he had no other choice but to reveal the truth. He could imagine Philipâs pale face on the other
side.
âBut you donât need to worry. Sean is here. Heâs willing to help us track down Barbara. You just take the kids home.â
Philipâs heavy sigh was heard. Frank could imagine how red his ey
were.
âLetâs switch positions,â Philip said in a low tone.
Frankâs eyebrows arched high. âWhat do you mean? You want to look for Barbara?â
âYes. Iâm more familiar with her. I can tell itâs Barbara just by looking
at her shadow. If you donât mind, I want to look for Barbara.â
Frank glanced at Sean. âAre you willing to escort my children home? I still have some things to take care of.â
Sean nodded without the slightest hesitation. âIt doesnât matter.â
âThen, Philip, please be patient. Sean will slide over there.â
