Chapter 354
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S31 97. Little Spies
Jeremy raised his eyebrows. âEven though what Eva said is true- about you like to save money and donât like parties-you donât need to be embarrassed. Thatâs a normal attitude. I used to be like that too.â
âThen, is it because of the things she brought?â Ava glanced at the shopping bags on the chair. âAre you embarrassed if you accept pre- loved clothes in front of people?â
Jeremy shook his head. âWhen I was at the orphanage, I also often received such clothes. If the model was good, I made it my pride. I even dared to wear it to parties. So, it was a natural thing.â
Ava folded her arms, leaning against the wall. She was actually curious about Jeremyâs background. Why was he raised in an orphanage? However, she couldnât possibly ask that.
âThen what would make you embarrassed if you were in my position?â
âThe fact that you have a stupid younger sister. She doesnât realize that by demeaning you, she is degrading her own family, ruining her own good name.â
The curve of Avaâs lips changed meaning. She didnât expect Jeremy to have such deep thoughts.
âDo you pity me?â
Before Jeremy could answer, she straightened her back from the
wall. âDonât. Iâm used to being treated like that. So, it doesnât have big impact on my feelings.â
âWhat makes you so patient with such a little sister?â
âYou canât stand to face your brother?â
Jeremy laughed faintly. âIn the past, yes. In the early days. But our case was different. At that time, Frank didnât know that he was my brother.â
Avaâs eyebrows rose slightly. But again, she chose not to ask.
âSo how?â Jeremy was still curious. âWhatâs your secret?â
Ava tilted her head slightly. âSorry. I donât think weâre that close yet. I donât like sharing my personal secrets with anyone.â
âIncluding friends?â
âWhy are you curious about my background?â Ava squinted.
âBecause I have to prepare an answer for the twins later. Itâs impossible for them not to ask me for information.â
âSo, youâre looking for my secret to share?â
Jeremy let out a laugh. âPlease donât get me wrong. The kids asked because they care about you. I do too. But if you mind, I might have to find a way to avoid the twinsâ insistence.â
Ava smiled wryly. âYou donât need to worry. Iâm fine. Iâm used to dealing with my sister.â
âIs Eva really your sister? Your real sister? Why would she put you
down like that?â
Jeremyâs guess hit Ava straight in the heart. She froze. Her eyes were fixated on Jeremy and even forgot to blink.
âSheâs my little sister.â
Jeremy scratched his temple. He looked confused. âThen what excuse should I prepare for the twins?â He muttered to himself.
Ava shrugged.

Understanding that she was reluctant to reveal her story, Jeremy sighed in resignation. âOkay, then. Sorry if I disturbed your peace or seemed too curious. Anyway, happy birthday.â
There were no hugs or handshakes after that. Jeremy immediately stepped out after nodding. However, Avaâs heart warmed. Jeremy was the first person to sincerely wish her a happy birthday.
âHe wished me a happy birthday?â she thought in disbelief. Then, snorting a laugh, she closed the door.
Meanwhile, Jeremy stopped and looked back. His lips were slightly pursed, his eyebrows knitted together.
âWhy is it so difficult to get information from her?â he grumbled before taking a deep breath. Right after he exhaled, he gasped.
âWait. Why do I care about her anyway? Is it because weâre friends now?â
Tilting his head, Jeremy turned back to face the front. After a brief moment of contemplation, he continued walking.
âIt must be guilt. She was in my car yesterday. She shouldnât have had that accident, especially on her birthday.â
However, as soon as he passed a decorative table, Jeremyâs steps slowed again. Two tiny butts sticking out from behind the tablecloth had caught his attention. With a crooked smile, he squatted down
âI think Uncle Jeremy has left. He doesnât know weâre here,â Emily whispered, worried.
âShhhâ¦. Donât be noisy, Emily. Letâs just wait a little longer.â
âUncleâs footsteps can no longer be heard. Has he gone far or stopped?â
Holding back a smile, Jeremy pushed aside the dangling tablecloth.
At that moment, the twinsâ eyes widened. Their mouths were round like their faces.
âHi, Uncle Jeremy?â Louis said, waving his hand uncertainly. He still
bent over.
âWhat are you doing here?â Jeremy played dumb.
âEngâ¦. Iâm checking if there are ants nearby.â Emilyâs tiny forefinger poked at the marble.
âI saw one go under the table earlier. But now itâs gone,â she continued with a tense expression.
âI⦠was checking the legs of this table. They look very sturdy.â Lo nodded while hitting the wood in front of his head with his fist. âYes, turns out to be sturdy. The design is also good.â
Jeremy bit his lip. Who could stand the cuteness of two toddlers?
âCome out. Youâll hurt your back if you wait there too long.â
Crawling back, Louis said, âWeâre actually making observations, Uncle.
âYes, we didnât eavesdrop on your conversation with Ava.â
One of Jeremyâs eyebrows moved down. âHow did you know I had conversation with Ava?â
Emily gasped. Slowly, she folded her lips inwards. âSorry, Uncle. Can you keep this a secret from Mommy? Mommy forbade us to spy on you, but we were curious.â
âIf youâre willing to help us, we are also willing to help you.â
Jeremy widened his eyes at Louis. âI donât need any help.â
Louis folded his arms across his chest. His expression was made wise like an old man. âYeah, you need our help. You have to comfort
Ava so she wonât be sad anymore. Is she still crying?â
âShe didnât cry. She also said she wasnât sad.â
Emily shook her head with a long sigh. âThatâs a fake answer, Uncle. Women like to hide their feelings. If she says sheâs not sad, that means sheâs sad.â
âIs that so?â Jeremy was amused.
âYes,â Emily nodded firmly. âWhat are your plans now? You canât just wish her a happy birthday, right?â
The curve of Jeremyâs lips froze. His eyes flickered awkwardly. âIs there anything else that needs to be done?â
Louis patted his forehead. âUncle, what did you do on our birthday?â
âGive you guys gifts?â Jeremy sounded like a student answering a question from his teacher.
âThen, arenât you planning on giving Ava something? Weâve already. missed her birthday, Uncle. At a minimum, we should give her a gift. Itâs a shame that time is too tight to throw a party.â
Jeremy was pensive. While the twins continued to chatter about what gifts they could prepare, Jeremy made a quick calculation.
âTwins, I have an idea. Do you want to help me?â
Louis and Emily gave a small jump and straightened up.
âWhat help do you need? We are ready to do it!â Louis placed four fingers on the tips of his eyebrow. Emily imitated him.
The curve of Jeremyâs lips turned slanted. Bending down, he began to whisper.
