S31 121. Opposing Eval

Ava suddenly stopped. Her jaw throbbed with annoyance.

“You said you didn’t come with threats?” She turned around with

furrowed brows. “Do you realize what you’re doing? You’re threatening

me.”

Eva smiled slyly. “I’m not threatening you, Ava. I just tell you what will happen next if you still insist on not letting me in.”

“I will explain to Mom that this is Mr. Harper’s order.”

“Do you think she cares?” Eva raised an eyebrow. Her tone was challenging. “What she wants is to meet me. She will definitely be very disappointed when she finds out you are against her wishes.”

While Ava gritted her teeth, Eva brought her head closer until it almost touched the gap in the gate. She was like a prisoner lurking outside.

“You said you don’t care if she hates you, but what about her health? You still want to be filial to her, right? Then, let’s open the door.”

Tears began to appear in Ava’s eyes. She hated the truth that Eva said. Why does her sister always find her weak point?

“Is that really your intention? You want to come in to visit her?”

Eva shrugged her shoulders lightly. “Sure. What else?”

“Then show me your wrist.”

The curve of Eva’s lips froze. Seeing that, Ava stepped forward again.

“Roll up your sleeves. Show your wrists. If there are no rope marks on them, you can come in.”

Eva’s eyes widened. Her expression was hard to describe. “Why do

you think I have that kind of scar?”

“Come on, show me,” Ava insisted.

Eva pressed her lips with her chin. Then, with a hesitant movement, she began to roll up the sleeves of her long shirt.

Seeing there was nothing there, Ava gasped. Her brain was frozen and her body was stiff. “Why is there no rope mark on her hands? Wasn’t she really kidnapped?” Ava thought, surprised.

“See?” Eva threw her hands back and forth. “I always take care of my skin. It’s impossible for scars painted on my body.”

Ava blinked awkwardly. Her mind was stuck. In fact, she was one hundred percent sure of her guess.

“Don’t tell me you suspect that I was kidnapped and collaborated with your enemy. What’s her name? Sophia Moore? Patricia Moore?”

Ava pursed her mouth. Seeing that helpless expression, Eva snorted a

smile.

“You don’t think I’m that evil, do you? I couldn’t possibly sacrifice anyone else for my safety, Ava. So now, open the gate.”

Ava took a deep breath. Her fists were shaking.

“Come on! You said it yourself, I can come in if there are no scars on my wrist.”

“Okay!”

Everyone blinked. Eva’s eyebrows rose. The guards’ gazes focused on Ava. “But, Miss-”

Ava turned her head with a firm expression. “It’s okay. Examine her according to your protocol. If she passes it, she won’t be able to harm. us.”

The bodyguards exchanged glances. However, the gate guard had moved, allowing Eva to pass.

“Isn’t this too much? Even airport checks aren’t this strict,” Eva

grumbled when a man searched her bag.

“Why? Are you afraid? If you have no evil intentions, you shouldn’t complain.”

Eva sighed in annoyance. When she got her bag back, she immediately stepped inside.

“Sorry to increase your workload, but please stay alert. If she acts up, just knock her down. And please don’t tell Jeremy. I want to prove

that I can handle my problems with confidence.”

The guards nodded. Then, with full alertness, they walked on Ava’s left and right.

“Mom!”

Eva burst in without knocking. Brian, who was chewing his food, almost choked. The middle-aged woman, who was almost asleep, immediately gasped. However, seeing her beloved daughter, her face instantly turned bright. “Eva!”

She tried to get out of bed. When she managed to straighten up, Eval had hugged her tightly.

“Mom, sorry I came late. Ava forbade me to come in earlier. I had to beg first before she opened the gate.”

Mrs. Connor cupped Eva’s sullen face. Her brows furrowed in pity. ” Oh, poor you. I don’t know what’s wrong with your sister. I will

reprimand her later.”

Eva nodded as if helpless. “Please tell her that I never meant any harm. She has to stop accusing me. I’m tired of being pushed into a

Mrs. Connor stroked Eva’s head while forcing a smile. “Yes, I will tell her later. Now, how are you? Did she push you very hard? Is anything hurt?”

While her mother looked up and down, checking her condition, Eval pouted.

“She’s really heartless, Mom. Even after I fell down, she still scolded me. She didn’t accept me complaining to you. In fact, I only told her the truth. I’m an honest girl who can’t lie.”

While Eva kept complaining, Ava entered the room with the guards. Her eyes immediately fell on Bryan. The man raised his eyebrows asking for an explanation.

“I’m sorry we interrupted your lunch and made you surprised. There is a serious matter that my family needs to discuss. Do you mind to have your lunch outside? You may use the dining room.” Ava grimaced at the end.

Seeing that, Bryan hurriedly nodded. “Yes, of course. I should be the one apologizing. I should have eaten out, not in your mother’s room.”

While the man was packing up his lunch box, Ava whispered, “Thank

you.”

Bryan shrugged. “It’s not a big deal, Ava. Call me if you need anything.”

As the man left, Ava turned around. Eva turned out to have been waiting for him with a suspicious look. “Who is that man? Is he your other lover?”

Before Ava had time to answer, her sister spoke again. “You know what, Mom? Ava said Mr. Harper intended to marry her. Does it make sense? I don’t think so. I mean, look at her.”

Eva’s hand rose to point to her sister. “What positive points does Mr.

Harper see in her? Mr. Harper is a distinguished man. He must have met many women of his level. It’s impossible for him to choose Ava over them.”

“Is that true?” Mrs. Connor glanced at her biological daughter. “How

did he propose to you?”

Ava blinked stiffly. She couldn’t possibly answer if Jeremy only expressed his determination through words.

“He hasn’t proposed to you yet? Then why did you tell Eva that he wants to marry you? Do you intend to make your sister jealous?”

Ava quickly lifted her chin, remembering prohibition number two. Jeremy is a straightforward man. So, when he confessed his love to me, he immediately asked me to marry him.”

Eva burst out laughing. Covering her mouth, she turned to her mother. “Mom, did you hear that? Ava hasn’t been proposed yet, but she’s very sure that they will get married. If she continues to brag like this, I’m embarrassed for the people who hear. They will definitely think that our family is delusional and money-minded.”

Mrs. Connor sighed worriedly. The look in her eyes that was fixed on Ava seemed disappointed.

“Can you stop causing trouble, Ava? I’m tired of advising you. Stop making fun of our family. Don’t continue your imagination or your illicit relationship with that man. It’s not too late for you to get back on the right track.”

Even though she had been prepared for that kind of response, Ava’s heart still ached. Overwhelmed by the pain, her breath began to

rumble.

“It’s not just imagination, Mom. Mister Harper and I really love each other. We plan to get married after getting your blessing.”
