Chapter 426
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
S3 169. Bad Father
Ava approached Jeremy hesitantly. The man still had his elbows on his knees, bowed while massaging his temples. Occasionally, his
shoulders seemed to rise, pressed by the tightness of his chest. Ava
couldnât bear to see it.
âJeremy,â she called softly. When the man glanced out of the corner of his eye, she continued, âWould you like me to accompany you?â
Jeremy shook his head slightly. âIâm fine, Ava. Just need time to think. You just accompany the others at the dinner table. Iâll catch up soon.â
While Jeremy nodded, trying to reassure her, Ava was lost in thought. After a short consideration, she sat on the same bench.
âI wonât be noisy. Just pretend Iâm not here. You can continue thinking. Ava lowered her head, not wanting to make Jeremy feel intimidated.
However, Jeremyâs sad gaze was still fixed on Ava. Only after a long sigh did he change his sight-back to the ultrasound image in his
hand.
âDid you know?â Jeremyâs voice broke the silence. Ava glanced without turning her head.
âWhen I was still living in an orphanage, I often thought. I often wondered. Why did my mother leave me? Where are the other childrenâs parents? Were they also abandoned like me or are their parents dead?â
Ava didnât answer. She let Jeremy express his emotions.
âThe end of every reflection was always the same. Weâre just unlucky because we have bad parents, selfish parents, or irresponsible
parents.â

Jeremyâs voice grew quieter. He wasnât really looking at Ava now. His eyes seemed to be blocked by an invisible partition in the air.
âSometimes, I tried to see from another perspective. What if our parents were actually less fortunate? They could have been forced to throw us away. They might have suffered as much as we did.â
Jeremy paused again, adding a sad impression to the dim light of the garden lamps.
âBut then, I refuted my thoughts again. No matter how bad their condition was, they shouldnât abandon their children. How could they
trust someone else more than themselves to take care of their
children?â
Suddenly, Jeremy let out a quick sigh. The sound was like a heartbreaking laugh.
âSo in conclusion, we were abandoned because our parents were evil. Thatâs what I believed until finally I was too tired to think about it.â
Folding his lips inward, Jeremy raised and lowered the paper in his hand. The light from his eyes depicted pain.
âNow, Iâve become one of them-a bad parent. Even worse. I had no idea that my carelessness could be a disaster for my own child.â
Ava shook her head faintly. Her hand reached out, touching her husbandâs arm. âYouâre not evil, Jer. You didnât even know the ba existed. What happened between you was also against your will, right? So donât equate your current case with your parentsâ case. It different.â
âBut I was just like them. I abandoned my child. I didnât do anything when he was aborted.â
Ava looked at Jeremy closely. Her lips no longer spoke. She knew that Jeremy didnât need comfort.

âOkay,â she whispered before taking a deep breath, âI admit, I donât understand your feelings. I donât know what itâs like to lose a child. I donât know what itâs like to lose something Iâve never held.â
While Jeremy was pensive, Ava took the ultrasound images. With teary eyes, she stroked the white spot there.
âI just donât want you to punish yourself for a mistake that canât be changed. And I think he thinks the same way.â
Blinking gently, Ava looked at Jeremy closely.
âJust like how you forgive your mother, he will also forgive you. I believe every baby sent into the world has a mission to put a smile on their parentsâ faces. If you are too sad, he might feel guilty.â
âHe hasnât had the chance to see the world, Ava. He doesnât know who his father is. He canât possibly have feelings like that. What he does is to hate me.â
âDo Louis and Emily hate Frank?â Ava raised an eyebrow.
Jeremy blinked. He remembered how the two toddlers once missed their father. Before he could reply, another voice was heard.
âAva is right, Uncle.â
Jeremy glanced at the little girl who had been standing on the other side for some time.
âEven though Louis and I didnât know who Daddy was, we always missed Daddy. Every night, I always prayed that Daddy would be happy.â
Louis nodded slightly. âYes, me too. Even though I was confused and angry because Daddy left us, I still loved him. I also hoped Daddy was always happy.â
Jeremyâs breath hitched. A strange feeling spread to all corners of his

heart.
âWerenât you guys angry that Frank failed to protect you?â
Louis furrowed his brows deeper. âI never thought so. I know Daddy must have tried his best.â
Emily nodded, supporting Louisâ statement. A second later, she
stepped forward, patting Jeremyâs hand.
âUncle, donât be sad anymore. Instead of crying, you better pray that your baby will be happy in heaven.â
âAnd you donât need to worry, Uncle,â Louis continued. âGrandpa Rowan must be taking good care of him there. They are probably playing and laughing together.â
Emily nodded again. âBesides, if youâre sad, this little baby will be sad too.â She stroked Avaâs stomach. âDoctor Wela said, baby shouldnât be stressed. Otherwise, his growth will be stunted.â
Jeremyâs furrowed brows changed meaning. He felt he just got a slap on his face. Emily was right. He couldnât be selfish. There was still- another baby who needed his attention.
âDo you think the baby in heaven will be jealous if I love this baby?â Jeremy stroked Avaâs stomach with a wry smile.
âI donât think so,â Louis shook his head without thinking.
âYeah, I donât think so either. Mommy said, fairness doesnât mean giving the same amount, but something that suits your needs. baby in heaven only needs prayers, while this baby needs your
attention.â
âIn fact, if you keep being sad, itâs not fair for this baby,â Louis added.
Slowly, the corners of Jeremyâs lips lifted. The burden in his heart was reduced a lot. âThank you, Emily, Louis.â

âAre you
not sad anymore?â Louis tilted his head.
Still, but I already know how to handle it.â
A second later, Jeremy moved closer to Ava and kissed her temple.
âIâm sorry if I ruined our special day. And sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. I hope you donât misunderstand. Iâm sad not because of Sophia. I donât have feelings for her. Iâm sad because of the child she aborted.â
Ava shook her head faintly. âNo problem. I can understand. Sophia deliberately destroyed the happiness and trust between us. I will not fall for her instigation. Now, do you still need time to be alone?â
Jeremy glanced at the twins. They were blinking waiting for the answer. âYou said you had prepared something for tonight?â
The twins nodded vigorously.
âYes, we have prepared a surprise.
âDo you want to see it now, Uncle? But Mommy said we can only show it after eating.â
Jeremy widened his smile. After putting the ultrasound results in his pocket, along with a letter from Rowan, he got up from the bench. Letâs go to the dining table. Letâs continue partying.â
Louis threw up his fists and ran. âWoohoo! Uncle Jeremy isnât
anymore.â
Emily gasped at the sight. âLouis, wait for me!â She also move little legs, chasing her brother.
Jeremy watched the two toddlers with teary eyes. His expression w hard to describe.
âJeremy,â Ava whispered, âyou donât have to deny your feelings. Itâs
okay if youâre still sad. You just need to stop blaming yourself.â

Jeremy glanced and shook his head faintly. âI just admitted that Iâm still sad. Iâm not denying it, Ava. Itâs just that I want to try to keep going. Thereâs no point in me slumping in silence, right?â
Ava cupped Jeremyâs cheek and kissed his forehead. âI am proud of you.â
âMe too. Thank you for being willing to understand me.â
Ava nodded. Taking Jeremyâs hand, she said, âNow, letâs get together with the others. The twins canât wait to show off their surprise.â
Jeremy nodded with a small smile.
