Chapter 56
Hiding the Twins from Their Billionaire Father
When Kara was about to change the topic, Rowan had already
accepted the offer. She had no other way but to keep the twins close to her. Luckily, the situation in the canteen was quite busy. There was little chance of her children being attacked there.
âSir, why are we sitting at this table? Shouldnât we choose the menu there?â Louis pointed his finger at a long table near the glass partition in the service area.
âThatâs because you are special guests. You donât need to order again. âThis canteen will soon serve the best menu for us,â Rowan glanced at Kara with a faint smile.
âIs it true?â Louisâ eyes lit up. He glanced at Emily and wiggled his eyebrows. âWe might get that expensive ice cream, Emily.â
Emily nodded with a sweet smile. âI hope so.â
Hearing the whispers of the twins, Rowan secretly mocked. âIs their
life that difficult that they canât afford the ice cream they want?â
âYou guys want that ice cream? Why donât you just tell Mommy?â Kara asked with furrowed eyebrows.
Louis and Emily shook their heads in unison.
âWe have to save money, Mommy. Because of that, Emily and I collected the visiting coupons.â
âWe can exchange 30 coupons for one small cup. Louis and I have collected 12.â
Smiling bitterly, Kara stroked their shoulder. âYou really are good kids, Little Angels. As a reward, you can order that ice cream after lunch.â
âIs it okay? Mommy needs a lot of money to buy our school uniforms. later,â Louis said in a worried tone.
âItâs okay for us to wait until our coupons are collected,â Emily continued, nodding like a pretty doll.
Watching the short drama, Rowan let out a faint sigh. His brows.
furrowed uncomfortably. He thought Kara was deliberately making him feel sorry.
A moment later, a servant came with a trolley. Louis and Emily didnât blink as the uniformed girl placed the dishes one by one. Occasionally, they glanced at each other and giggled.
However, when a plate of shrimp appeared, Emilyâs cheerfulness faded. She immediately pouted and hugged Kara tightly.
Witnessing Emilyâs fear, Kara stole a glance at Rowan. She already suspected that the old man had bad intentions towards her children.
Meanwhile, Louis patted his sisterâs hand and comforted her. âYou donât need to be afraid, Emily. Weâre fine as long as we donât eat it. Look at this! I touch it but my finger is fine.â Louis put his words in
practice.
âYou guys canât eat shrimp?â Rowan pretended to be surprised. In fact, he already held all the information related to the twins.
âYes, we are allergic to shrimp,â Louis said lightly.
âThen should we remove it from the table?â
Louis shook his head. âNo need, Sir. Mommy likes shrimp. But since
we found out we were allergic, Mama never ate it again.â
âOhâ¦. So, your allergies were inherited from your father?â
Kara sucked in a heavy breath. She could no longer remain silent.
âSorry, Mister Harper. If you donât mind, please put the plate away. Emily couldnât have lunch comfortably if she saw it.â
Rowan sneered and nodded. Just through hand movements, the servant already understood the order.
After ensuring that the cafeteria was still quite busy, Kara whispered to her son, âLouis, why donât you take Emily to order the ice cream you. both like? Your sister needs something to calm her fears.â
âCan we have ice cream before lunch?â Louis widened his eyes in
surprise.
âYes, you can taste it a little, and then eat it after the main course.â
âOkay.â
Excitedly, Louis jumped down from the chair. Taking Emilyâs hand, he walked towards the ordering counter. Kara was sure that the two toddlers would need quite a long time to make a choice.
âYou must already know about the allergies the twins have, but why, did you serve shrimp?â Kara asked in a low but firm voice.
Rowan smiled crookedly. âI just want to make sure. The hospit could have been manipulated. Turns out, thatâs true?â
âFrank already has agreed to marry Isabela. That means Iâve ke word and you shouldnât harm the twins. Why are you acting out the agreement?â
âDid you see your children eating it? No, right? They are still health and even look happy.â
The old man turned to Louis and Emily who were busy arguing in front
of the ice cream banner.
âWhat do you really want to say?â Kara asked boldly.
Rowan pursed his lips and leaned back in his chair. His gaze remained fixed on the twins. âYou said you would disappear soon, but why are you still listed as a Savior employee?â
âBecause those are the terms I agreed to with your grandson. He will continue his arranged marriage with Isabela as long as I still work as his secretary. So, when will I go? It depends on Isabelaâs ability to grab his attention. The sooner she wins your grandsonâs heart, the sooner I can be out of his life.â
âYou donât intend to unite your children with their father, do you?â
Kara stupefied. Her chest suddenly became tight. Her gaze wandered for a moment. Her response made Rowan snort triumphantly. The old man felt he had struck the right spot.
When she was tired from work or watching her children play alone, Kara sometimes hoped to find a kind-hearted man who was willing to be their father. Together, they could be a complete, happy family.
However, that man was clearly not the boss. Even if Frank Harper was the twinsâ father, it would be impossible for them to be together. The barrier between them was too great.
âWhat for?â Kara lifted her chin and smiled bitterly. âHe abandon his children since the beginning, even before they were born. My children do not deserve to be treated like worthless objects. They deserve to be happy.â
Seeing Karaâs eyes fill with tears, Rowan felt victorious. âIs that so? You think your children are happy now?â His tone was full of disdain. While sneering, he turned his attention back to Louis and Emily.
âLook at those clothesâ¦. I think the school uniform will be the best clothes they have if you can afford it.â
âLook at their thin bodiesâ¦. I hope this dish isnât the best theyâve ever
en then dyc niecu pulunu nummun LU you.
âOh, I also remember how enthusiastic they were at studying earlier. They must be very grateful to be able to get a scholarship because without itâ¦, their poor mother would not be able to afford them to study at Savior.â
Karaâs breath started to rumble. However, she couldnât deny it. Thatâs the reality. She was unable to give the best to Louis and Emily
because of economic conditions.
âSo, is your grandson happy? He could buy whatever he wanted, always ate sumptuous dishes, and received the best education. He even has a high position in the company and many achievements. Yet, is he happy?â
Raising the corners of her lips, Kara continued, âIf he is happy with his wealthy life, he wouldnât go against your wishes, Sir. He would be happy to accept the daughter of a famous conglomerate as his wife, instead of asking for help from a woman from a lower class to thwart the arranged marriage.â
Rowanâs cheeks twitched at the reply. He could feel the strong sarcasm between the secretaryâs words.
