Chapter 289
The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 289: WHAT VEMION HAD DONE "If you are looking for the Alpha, he is not here, he is with Prince Kellan. I thought you knew about it. Didnât he tell you? Also, why are you not with him?" Ethan looked at Iris closely, there was still a tinge of red on her cheeks, because he caught her lie.
On the other hand, Iris fidgeted because she didnât know what to say. She was not sure why she came here to find Ethan. "I know," she replied in a small voice.
"You know?" Ethan blinked his eyes and then pulled her to sit down on the bench nearby under a maple tree. "So, why are you here? Are you looking for Redmond?" Ethan clicked his tongue. "I am sure, he is dipping his dick inside a poor palace maid."
Iris was shocked when she read what he said. The words were too vulgar and Ethan realized almost immediately when he saw the horror in her eyes.
"Oops, sorry. Squabbling with him very often leaves me a little bit dumb at times." Ethan didnât forget to blame it on Redmond. He would trash talk about him all day long if there was someone who would listen to his ramblings. He had a lot of grievances against Redmond after all.
"I came looking for you," Iris immediately said before the situation became even more awkward. She clutched her dress nervously.
"Came looking for me? Why?" Ethan couldnât remember if they had some unfinished business, or there was a reason for her to come find him. "Why are you looking for me?"
Iris was a little bit hesitant when she spoke again, but she was already here. "Why did the Alpha kill Prince Vemion? What had he done?" Irisâ voice was so small, because she was afraid that someone else would listen to this conversation, although they were in an open area and no one was nearby.
If Ethan was not a shifter with an exceptional hearing ability, he wouldnât be able to hear what she said.
"Ah!" The Gamma immediately understood why Iris was here. "Cane must have not told you about it, right?" Iris shook her head. "I am not surprised he didnât explain anything to you." He thought Iris was an exception, but it seemed the Alphaâs way to not explain himself and the whole grandeur plan in his head had become a habit, which would be hard to change.
"What had the fourth prince done? The Alpha only said he is not as kind as people perceived him..."
"Well... he is not wrong." Ethan looked hesitant when he explained this, as he grimaced. He was not sure whether he was allowed to tell her about this or not.
However, with the consideration that the Alpha had brought her along with him on most of the missions and that Iris even knew his deepest secrets, the Gamma thought it wouldnât hurt to let her have a little bit better understanding of the situation.
After all, if she waited for Cane to tell her the answer, she would probably not get it at all, knowing the nature of the Alpha.
"The fourth prince is having a secret deal with the people in the Andelus continent, he is selling the magic stones that the Red Wolf pack had mined illegally, which caused so much loss for the kingdom."
Since the magic stones werenât being sold under the kingdomâs name, the profit didnât come to the royalâs pocket.
"The Alpha didnât care about that." Iris narrowed her eyes at Ethan. It was indeed an offense to the kingdom, but Cane was not the King, thus those losses didnât implicate him at all. It was well known that the royal family had a lot of underhanded deals, even the King himself and the matter with the magic stones had nothing to do with Cane, which might have led him to kill Prince Vemion.
"Well..." Ethan scratched his head that was not itchy. The weather had become warmer compared to the first time they arrived here, but Iris was still dressed thickly. "You donât want to know what else he has done."
What Ethan said before was the most âgentleâ wrongdoing Vemion had done, because the rest of it was as gruesome as the way he died.
"What has he done?" Iris became nervous as well, but she was adamant to know. She had come so far to meet with Ethan and the answer she was looking for was only a step away.
"He dissected magic userâs bodies to know how they got their magic." It was the most simple and considerate way to explain what Vemion had done.
"What do you mean dissected their bodies?" Iris was stunned when she heard that.
"He thought there is a secret behind how those magic users got their powers and he does research on it with a few important figures in the Red Claw pack using the money came from the black market, which he got from selling children to Karam continent to be slaves, also from the magic stones that they sold underhandedly to Andelus continent."
Iris didnât know about this. Cane was right. His title alone as the Prince of this kingdom would be a guarantee he was not as innocent as he seemed.
Iris could have never imagined about all of that if Ethan hadnât told her, because Cane wouldnât have explained such a thing to her. And she believed him, there was no reason for the Gamma to lie.
"If you think the way we treat the slaves in our mines is cruel, you must see how the Red Claw pack treats the slaves, who were working in their mines." Ethan didnât elaborate further, but Iris could get the picture.

She was shocked and it was written all over her face, because she still remembered how Prince Vemion looked like a gentle and decent person. He had done such a cruel thing like research on magic users by cutting up their bodies?
"We canât survive if we donât watch our backs, Iris. The Alpha said the best defense is a good offense, therefore, we are always in a battle mode."
