Chapter 292
The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 292: WHAT IS YOUR STATUS?
"What happened to Will?" Hanna asked Ethan, as they followed behind Iris and Cane. The two of them decided to take a walk in the yard before dinner got ready. They would have dinner together with the rest of the children and Prince Kellan. "Why didnât he write back to me? Is he angry with me?"
Hanna had racked her brains trying to figure out what could have possibly made him angry, but she couldnât come up with any. They didnât even have a fight before he started ignoring her like this.
"No, there is no way he is angry with you," Ethan reassured her. "He always talks about you with shining eyes, as if he just swallowed a luminous pearl, but he indeed looks a little bit down lately. It is not just you, he is ignoring everyone else and spends the whole day without saying a word."
Hanna bit her lip, she had heard as much and thought the other warriors were just exaggerating the situation, but after more than four people said the same thing, she couldnât help but feel even more worried about Will.
"Do you know what caused him to act like that?" Hanna was nervous. She didnât like this feeling, if she could, she wanted to go where he was, but it was not possible. "Do you know what happened to him during the monster attack?"
"I donât know... I donât have any idea what happened during the monster attack." Ethan then pointed to himself. "I was locked inside that damn room, remember?"
"Ah, right..." Hanna just remembered that. She was too anxious, that detail slipped her mind.
"I think the only person who knows why Will suddenly acts weirdly is him." Ethan nodded at Caneâs back. "But, donât let your hopes go high. Even I myself donât know how to pry information out of him."
Hanna stared at the Alphaâs back and then at her missy, who was stealing a glance at Cane every now and then, as they walked in silence side by side.
She was so desperate to see Will and talk to him. She had been so restless every time she thought about him, as if something bad would happen.
This ominous feeling wouldnât just go away.
On the other hand, Iris tried to engage Cane in a light conversation, because the Alpha had been very quiet, he didnât even say anything after he saw her here. Why was he so callous? Didnât he feel happy to see her? Or at least, relieved? He wanted to see her, right?
"Are you not happy to see me here?" Iris asked bluntly, which made Cane snap his head in her direction, not expecting such a question from her.
Iris furrowed her brows slightly and looked at him nervously. "I am happy," Cane replied curtly, before he shifted his attention to the orphanage building in front of him. It seemed dinner had been prepared as the smell of delicious food wafted in the air.
The appetizing aroma of sizzling bacon was mouthwatering.
"Do you want to see me here?"
"Yes."
"Would you have been sad if I didnât come?"
Cane glanced at her and met her expectant eyes. "I am glad you are here."
A small smile tugged up the corners of Irisâ lips, though that was not the answer that she was looking for, at the very least, he let her know he wanted her to be here.
Iris swung their hands together. It was easy to tell she was delighted with Caneâs answer, but he stopped her from swinging their hands, as he held her small one firmly.
Yet, Irisâ smile immediately faded away when she saw the person who had been waiting for them in front of the building. It was Nala. The sight of her put Iris in a bad mood.
"Alpha Cane," Nala greeted Cane, as she approached him with a beautiful smile on her lips. Her eyes shone brightly. "I have been waiting for you. I came to relay a message from the King."
Nala even had the audacity to ignore Iris completely, as she didnât even glance at the woman beside Cane.
Seeing how this woman ignored his mate, Cane didnât heed to what she said and pulled Iris with him, as both of them walked past her.
Nala was stunned. How could an alpha ignore a message from the King? But, Cane just did that.
"Alpha!" Nala immediately followed him into the building. "Alpha, this is a message from the King, you need to respect it." She admired Caneâs recklessness, as he dared enough to ignore her after she brought up the Kingâs name. What made him so confident to go against the King?
At this point, Nala really wanted to know more about Cane, not just for her mission, but because she was genuinely curious about this man. She glanced at Cane and Irisâ intertwined hands, as they walked side by side and felt jealous.
"Alpha!" Nala ran ahead and stopped right in front of Cane, forcing the two of them to stop and listen to her. "Alpha, I will not take offense to what you have done earlier, but you need to listen to me."

Nala stopped for a moment, she couldnât understand what he was saying, so couldnât Iris. Nala looked at Cane closely. "Pardon me?" Nala furrowed her brows. Why would he take offense when she was the one who was being offended?
"What rank are you?" Cane asked coldly, which made Nalaâs face blanch, because she immediately understood what the Alpha meant.
She was someone without a rank on her own, only a daughter of the chief of the royal warriors. If a personâs rank was based on the status of your family and the man that had taken you in to be his woman, then Nalaâs rank was close to a personal maid, since her status of being a daughter of the chief of the royal warriors didnât mean anything in front of the alphas, especially Cane, who held the golden stamp and was the special emissary of the King.
"My apologies, Alpha," Nala said weakly. She lowered her head, her cheeks bright red.
