Chapter 425
The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 425: DID I KILL HIM?
"Did I... kill him?" Iris felt her throat turn dry when the question came out of her lips, while the lycan was still fast asleep in her lap.
She couldnât say what actually had happened because she was afraid they would judge her. After all, no matter how she put it, it was her who harmed Cane and brought the lycan to the surface. But Haco was different, he was not from this pack and he didnât share the same bond with Cane like the members of the pack did.
Iris was not sure how Jace and Ethan would react if they learned about this. She had enough people judging her unfairly already, she didnât want the Beta and the Gamma to join the mix.
"I donât think so," Haco said, deep in thought, as he stared at Cane, who was sleeping peacefully while clutching Irisâ dress. "I donât think you killed him, but you indeed weakened him." Haco moved closer to observe Cane more. He furrowed his brows and mumbled something to himself and Iris was unable to read it.
"How can we get Cane back?" Iris asked. This was the most crucial question that needed to be answered. Haco was the only person who knew the lycan really well, since this cursed creature had resided within him for over five decades. "Can we get him back?"
"There is one thing that you should know about the lycan, Iris," Haco said, lifting his head. He looked tired and his grey hair looked a little bit dull, which made him look very old. "The lycan doesnât usually appear like this."
"But, did the lycan ever appear while he resided in you?" Iris tried to grasp all the information that she could to understand their current situation.
"Of course," Haco said affirmatively. "Just like how he appears every new moon, the same thing happened to me too."
"But, you are not a shifter." In Irisâ mind she imagined Haco turning into a lycan or something.
"Nah, itâs not necessary for him to appear as a lycan, but because I am not a shifter, usually he would take over my body, he would control my consciousness. Probably, the same as what happened now. The lycan took over Caneâs body because you injured his beast. Even though this is not the new moon yet, probably because the vessel is weak, the thing inside it has leaked out, thatâs how things seem to work between Cane and the lycan."
It was also the moment the lycan took over his body that he messed up in the Holy Kingdom, which caused him to be banished from that place and he eventually left the continent and ended up here.
Iris grimaced when Haco mentioned she had injured Caneâs beast. How bad was it until the lycan took his consciousness over?
"How long until we can get Cane back?" Iris dreaded the answer, because she was not ready to be told âthere was nothing they could doâ or something along that line.
"I am not sure, Iris. I have never encountered a power like yours before, hell, I donât even know a power like yours exists in the first place. How can you even see the wisp?" Haco was way more interested in Irisâ power than the predicament that the lycan pushed them into.
"I donât know," Iris answered honestly. "But, I donât think this is the same wisp that occasionally comes out of Cane, because I am sure he did not notice it. I think itâs only me who can see it."
Haco furrowed his brows, wrinkling his nose. "Weird."
And with that, silence fell over them, as there were a lot of unanswered questions that swirled in the air with this revelation.
"Haco, I think his mateâs name is something like âNaâ and he called me his sweet Serafim." Iris wanted to leave out this unrelated information, because she thought it was only a slip of tongue, but then on second thought, it was too weird for the lycan to call her that. "What did he mean by that?"
"Serafim..." Haco fell deep in thought once again, his eyes shook, while he was thinking of thousands of possibilities. "... Iris, I think this is crazy... no, itâs completely crazy if it is true..."
"What is it?" Iris didnât have patience to be put in suspense. This sorcerer should explain what he meant quickly, instead of mumbling to himself.
"What is it, Haco?"
"No. This is crazy..." Haco shook his head, but then he stared at Iris and his sight fell on the sleeping Cane. He was completely unbothered about what was going on, being so docile in the presence of his mate. "This canât be... right?"
"Haco!" Iris hissed impatiently. "I can read what you say, but I canât read your mind! Talk now!" Iris was too frustrated to be her sweet self as a lot of things happened to her, especially today, which put her on edge. Forget about being sweet, she felt like she was about to claw this sorcerer if she could to pry the answer from him.
"Are you a Serafim?"
Iris felt like her head was going to burst. "No, you are right, you are indeed crazy."
"No. No!" Haco shook his head and grabbed Irisâ hand. "No! Look! All the signs are there, Iris. Look at it from a different perspective. You can purify the black magic stones and feel the black magic, you can tame the lycan and he literally called you the Serafim."
"What about the Serafim in the Holy Kingdom now? Is she a fake? Thatâs an outrageous claim."
"Thatâs..." Haco couldnât find a proper answer to refute her. "But, I think what I feel from you is divine power..." he said unsure.
"Shouldnât you know immediately whether it is divine power or not, since you lived there in your younger years."
"I was still young," Haco grumbled under his breath. "Iris, you didnât realize your power until recently, at least, thatâs what you told me, because you have been kept away from people since you were little. There is this case where some powers couldnât develop to the fullest and have this oddity.
This abnormality can be seen in the magic users who canât use magic, or some shifters who canât shift into their beasts and we call them runts. You yourself have been known as a runt all of your life."
Iris lowered her gaze, trying to comprehend Hacoâs explanation. "Do you want to say that because of this oddity, you canât be sure whether it is really the divine power or not inside me?"
"Yes, more or less. If you put it that way, I think itâs because your power is not developed to the fullest, or maybe I can be wrong."
Iris was frustrated with this uncertainty. "Or, maybe you can be so wrong."
Hace glanced at Iris. "A Serafim is born with a tattoo on their back, what about you? Do you have it?"
Her back...
"I donât know," Iris murmured. She was very ashamed of her back, as it looked so horrendous. She even stopped looking at her scars a long time ago.
"Should we ask someone to check on it?" Haco looked so excited.
Iris bit her lip. "Letâs continue this conversation tomorrow," she said immediately before Haco insisted further. "I am so tired."
Seeing how pale Iris was right now and recalling what had happened to her before the incident with the lycan, Haco nodded. It was indeed a tiring day.
However, before he left, he said something softly, as if he was a grandfather, who was talking to his granddaughter, someone that the sorcerer would never have.
"Donât treat all people with kindness, Iris. Not everyone deserves it. Do not hesitate to give them your silence when you feel unappreciated, because not everyone deserves your attention."
Iris lowered her gaze, because his words hit her so deep and it even came from âan outsiderâ, just like her.

His body temperature was so different, while Cane was always so warm, he was so cold. Probably, because he was the epitome of black magic? Iris was not sure anymore. But if that was the case, why couldnât she purify him? Or probably it was not as simple as that with the lycan.
Moreover, if it was Cane, he would have woken up by now and started his busy day so early, though he would make time to have breakfast with her every morning in their bedroom.
Iris shifted her body and stared at Caneâs face. He looked like a young boy when he was sleeping like this, he looked so peaceful and she was afraid to disturb his sleep.
For a few more minutes, Iris kept staring at Cane, hoping he would open his eyes and she would meet with Caneâs dark eyes instead.
Leaned over, Iris kissed his cold lips, while speaking softly. "Come back to me, please..."
She didnât have any idea how long it would take for Cane to heal from the injury that she gave him. It was so reckless of her.
But then a question crossed her mind; would she be able to kill him when she finally gained complete control over her power?
Iris didnât want to think about that, she pushed herself up from the thick carpet, where she and Cane slept and walked toward the door.
But then, she saw Maria had been waiting for her there. "Luna Iris," she greeted her politely.
