Chapter 567
The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 567: I DONâT LIKE YOU RIGHT NOW Everyone was shocked to see Irisâ defiant side. Even Cane was not an exception, though his mind was not in the right headspace.
fгeeí¤ebɳoveÉ.cøm This was the first time he received a ânoâ from Iris so firmly. She tried her hardest to stand her ground and he could see how much she suppressed her fear when she defied him, even so, she was stubborn to back down and oblige him.
Iris balled her fists, she waited for Caneâs next response or what he was going to say when she openly rejected his order in front of his people.
Other alphas would have beaten one to death if their woman so much as made a refusal to a direct order, especially when it happened in front of the other pack members. It was almost like a slap to the Alphaâs face to have someone challenge their command.
Iris realized that too late, but she was desperate because Cane didnât want to listen to her. She bit her lip nervously and when Cane walked toward her, she lowered her head. She flinched hard as he kept walking closer. Would he hit her?
She would be lashed whenever she had dared enough to disregard an order, her body still remembered that, which made her hunch her shoulders and flinch, waiting for the pain, as she closed her eyes.
However, the pain didnât come, instead it was Caneâs harsh voice from behind her that made Iris open her eyes again.
"Where is that boy?!" Cane growled impatiently.
"Ah..." Iris immediately approached Cane with the little girlâs spirit close to her. She went to the collapsed building and looked at the spirit.
Ethan approached Aliana after witnessing that intense moment. They thought Cane would lose it on Iris and do something unforgivable, it crossed their minds because of the look on the Alphaâs face, even more since Iris crossed a line she shouldnât. It was an unwritten rule to not let down a direct order from the Alpha, especially in public. It was a humiliation.
"I think this will be their first fight, right?" Aliana asked Ethan, who was standing by her side.
"Yes, I guess so and the Luna managed to get out of the predicament unscathed." Ethan frowned. "If it was me, I would have been chewed out by him."
"I donât think the Alpha likes the taste of your flesh." Aliana then added when Ethan gave her a look. "I am just saying."
The spirit of the little girl looked around the ruins with a sad face, as she started to walk carefully, trying to figure out where her brother was.
Meanwhile, Iris appeared to only stand by the side, staring into the distance, as if she was thinking of something. Cane stood by her side in silence, as he didnât push her to prove what she said.
It was the other people who were standing by the side that looked so confused with this. What was the Luna doing? Why didnât she move and only stand there after the fuss she made?
"What is the Luna doing?" Asher asked Kian in a low voice, they had been digging the ruins for some time now but couldnât find anything. They couldnât even smell any other scent but blood in the air, and this scorching hot afternoon didnât help them at all to keep their cool.
"I donât know." Kian shook his head, but his eyes fell on the Alpha and the Luna, seemingly there was an invisible tension between the two of them.
After about twenty minutes, the spirit of the little girl stopped roaming around the area and squatted down, as she sobbed softly.
âZale... my brother is here...â She sobbed.
Iris approached her and Cane moved along with her, even though he didnât say anything. She squatted down next to the spirit. "The boy is here."
Cane held Irisâ elbow and pulled her to stand up, so the warriors could dig that spot. The Alpha didnât have the same questions as the others, nor did he doubt her. He simply disliked the fact she was exposed to danger.
And he was pretty mad because she defied his order, even more so when he couldnât bring himself to use his alphaâs voice on her to make her submit to him.
It wasnât long before the warriors managed to find the body of the young boy, he was unconscious, while hugging his little sisterâs still body. This young boy must be a lowborn, he looked so skinny and probably around the age of ten to twelve.
Grace immediately came forward and checked on both of them.
Unfortunately, the little girl didnât make it, but the older one would be able to survive, though it would have been a different story had they found him later than this.
"We need to bury the little girl, but the boy will survive." Grace shook her head. "Luna, you are right. If we are too late to find him, we will not be able to save him."
What Grace said shocked everyone, but Iris already knew about it, so she only nodded at her words.
"See? The Luna is right, next time, stop complaining. Canât you see how amazing our luna is?" Eron made a passive aggressive comment, while glancing at Kian and Asher, since the two of them kept doubting Iris.
"Oh, shut up," Asher grumbled.
And after they evacuated the young boy, Cane took Iris back to the carriage. He took long enough strides, which forced Iris to run lightly to follow him.
"We are going to leave right away after we take care of the mess here," Cane said coldly.
"Do you mean we are going to leave now?"
"Yes."
"But, they need our help, Cane."
Cane stopped walking and opened the carriage door widely, indicating for Iris to enter, but seeing her stubborn face made the Alpha growl in frustration.
"I donât want to abandon them. They need our help more than anything now, Cane."
"We are helping them by leaving. Those mutineers caused this because they want us to leave, so we are going to leave." There was nothing to be saved here. Without any benefits, it wasnât worth the effort to stay in this pack.
"Are you running away from those mutineers?" Iris narrowed her eyes, she hated it that they were not on the same page, but she didnât agree with how cold Cane could be.
"I lost thirteen of my warriors, Iris, so donât talk to me in that tone."
Iris lowered her head, she let her emotions get the best of her. She didnât mean to question him, but she didnât want to leave and let these people fend for themselves. "There is no guarantee the Silver Warriors will help these people, Cane."
After all, the Silver Warriors were led by the former beta and gamma, who managed to break free and raise their own forces with the former warriors of this pack.
They didnât treat the lowborns well when the Alpha Gian still ruled this pack, there was no guarantee they wouldnât treat them the same.
"I am not risking my own people to save them, Iris. Now get inside the carriage!" Cane clenched his jaw tightly.
"I love you, Cane, but I donât like you, right now." Iris pressed her lips together and went into the carriage.
