Chapter 129
The Stained Omega
My Job.
(Patrick)
Swiping my hand across my shots I try to rid Annaâs blood from my hand but itâs no use. Itâs already
dried so itâs going to stay there until I actually shower or at the very least wash my hands.
âHow is she?â Eliza whispers coming up behind me, I look at her and see sheâs in a similar state of
dress as me.
âI told you not to come.â I use a low voice so as not to disturb everyone helping Anna.
âLike Iâm going to stay back while someone is using a gun on
Packland. Iâve never heard of a shifter using a gun before,â I look over at Doctor Lee as he makes a
victory sound and holds up a small bullet in between some tweezers. Iâm instantly moving forward in
confusion, I need a closer look because I swear that bullet is blinking.
âAny deeper and you might have needed surgery but as it is, a few stitches and you will be fine.â Doctor
Lee says to a dazed and pale looking Anna, âsomeone get this Luna a stiff drink while I sew her up.â
Doc turns and drops the bullet in a little dish before turning to grab his sewing stuff.
âListen, Iâm no bullet expert.â I hold the little tray up to my eye and see. Iâm right, there is a little blue
light blinking at the end of it. âBut Iâm pretty sure they donât have lights on them.â
âLet me see,â I pass the tray to Fraction after he hands Anna a glass of whiskey which she just holds in
her shaking hand. âIt doesnât look like any bullet Iâve ever seen.â
âItâs a tracking bullet,â me and Fraction both look at Eliza. âMy papa used to hunt with a group of
humans and they used bullets like these so they could track their prey.â I scrunch my nose up at the
idea of shooting a deer, Iâll take claws over a gun anyday.
âSo you can buy them at any hunting shop?â Fraction asks Eliza while sipping on his own whiskey.
âIf they sell hunting guns then sure but you know what this means right?â Eliza asks as she curls
herself into one of the chairs in the office.
âSomeone shot Anna to keep tabs on her not to kill her,â I mutter as I look at the bullet again. âWho
have you pissed off?â I ask Fraction.
âOw! That hurt!â All of us shoot our eyes to Anna who is batting at the Doc trying to place the last stitch.
Her glass is empty and sheâs just clutching it like itâs the most precious thing in the world to her. âI want
Thomas home, now.â I smile at Eliza, thankful that I was able to guess my Lunaâs thoughts.
âAlready tucked up his bed, Iâll take a thank you in the form of my own drink.â I shake my head as Eliza
holds her hand out to Fraction.
âAnything? I mind link with James as the Doc tells Fraction how to change Annaâs bandage now heâs
done sewing her up.
âNothing, not even the scent of gunpowder.â James sounds annoyed that his search has not brought
anything up. I watch the Doc slip from the office and close the door behind him.
âYou checked around the trees in the back garden? It came through the kitchen window.â I rub my
fingers on the bridge of my nose, how can there be no scent of an intruder.
âYeah, maybe it was a hunting shot gone wide?â I snort at this.

âNot likely, itâs not hunting season. Doc is done, the warriors will stay out, you come back here.â I
instruct James as I close the link, he might be the Beta but this situation is my job, I call the shots.
âI donât want Anna or the pups anywhere without an escort until we find who did this.â I tell Anna and
Fraction as I perch against the desk.
âA bit dramatic.â Annaâs words are a little slurred, Iâm guessing the pain pills, shock and whiskey are
taking effect.
âNo, heâs right. I also donât want you off Packland until I know whatâs happening.â Anna smiles as
Fraction tells her this.
âSo no Moon Ceremony?â She sounds a little too happy about this.
âNice try, youâre coming. We will have enough warriors to keep you protected.â Fraction just stares at
Anna and they seem to have a silent. conversation. I watch Annaâs shoulders slump as she realises
sheâs got no choice in the matter.
James walks into the office closing the door behind him, heâs wearing jeans, a red button down and
boots. I guess he dressed before coming. in because I know he shifted to help in the search.
âWhere were you?â Fraction is on his feet the second the door opens.
âOut. I shifted and joined the patrol as soon as you linked.â James says, coming to a stop and staring at
our Alpha.
âOut? My mate got shot in our own home and you were out?â James bites his lip as our Alpha chews
into him, as Beta he should be here all the time unless Fraction knows about it beforehand. âWas he
worth
it?â
âWhatâs happening?â I ask, looking between James and Fraction in confusion.

âJames found his mate but heâs fighting it and now heâs so busy with his mate he canât be here to help
when heâs needed.â Everyone in the room is instantly at attention, James finding a mate is a big deal so
I donât know why heâs fighting it.
âThatâs not fair, me being here wouldnât have stopped Anna from being shot!â Heâs right but Fraction
isnât exactly seeing sense right now.
âBoth of you need to calm down,â I look between both of the guys. âWe need to figure out who did this.
James maybe start making some calls, see if anyone knows of any rogues who use guns?â James just
nods before storming from the office. âFraction, maybe itâs worth taking Anna to bed?â I nod my head at
Anna whose head is falling forward onto her chest, the shock has worn off and sheâs crashing.
âFine but I want an update by morning,â he comes around his desk and scoops Anna up into his arms.
âKeep a warrior on each of the pups.â He takes a few steps before looking at me, âmake it two a piece.â
Once alone with Eliza in the office I walk over to the liquor bar and pour myself a decent size drink
before slamming it down, once itâs empty I pour another.
âWhat was all that?â Eliza asks me as I pour my third drink.
âThings are changing.â I mutter into my glass.
