âI come bearing coffee.â I smile as Darryl steps into my office carrying two steaming mugs of coffee, âI
wasnât sure what Eva drinks or if she was awake.â
âStill sleeping.â I take the red coffee cup from him and immediately bring it to my nose. âThere is a
reason you are top Alpha, you know exactly what we need.â
âAh yes, my super power. Knowing when a fellow Alpha needs
coffee.â We both laugh as Darryl takes a seat across from me, âI heard you took Eva out for some fun
last night.â I donât know why but the way he says it has my back going ram-rod straight, I suddenly feel
like Iâm being lectured as an Alpha and not as a friend.
âShould I not have taken her off Pack land?â I start making a me ntal list to use as an argument as to
why she needed taking off Pack land.
âCalm down, Cas.â Darryl smirks at me over the rim of his coffee cup, âit was a solid idea and from what
I understand Eva took to it like a duck to water.â I donât relax, I just put my coffee cup down and look at
Darryl, no way he would bring up taking Eva out without there being something he wants to discuss.
âOut with it Darryl, Iâve known you long enough to know when you are biting your tongue.â Darryl does
this half nod half smile thing that makes me think I predicted correctly.
âI agree Eva needed out of the Pack, she needed to see you in a neutral

hg. I hope it helped her see the Pack in a more favourable light but I strongly suggest keeping her on
Pack land for now.â Darryl puts his coffee cup on the table before giving a big sigh, âthe Elders donât
want you to know because they think Eva is involved. They believe Jeremy is just a small mouse in a
big cage, someone is selling shifters. Mostly females and only one or two a year so no one has made
the connection, that is until your mateâs human started kicking up the wrong rocks.â I growl as he refers
to Jeremy as Evaâs human.
âHeâs nothing to her, sheâs mine.â Darrylâs eyebrow raises a little and I feel his Alpha Aura pulsing out,
itâs only when I feel it pushing on my shoulders that I realise how close to the service Storm was.
âSorry.â I mutter, itâs been a long time since I lost control of Storm.
âDonât be, your right to be protective of her.â I nod my head but I still feel shamed, Darryl is like a father
figure to me so to try and pull rank on him is unacceptable.
âHow do you know heâs selling shifters?â Iâd love to know how they are controlling shifter females
because I canât imagine they are all like Eva and donât have wolv
âNot him specifically, we think he might be a procurer. Some females have been showing up as sex
workers or sla ves in different countries, all with the same story. A guy picks them up, takes them
somewhere, they lose time and then they find themselves in a foreign country and doing what they
need to, to survive.â Darryl licks his lips, a telltale sign of his that heâs unhappy with a situation.
âSo you think if Eva leaves and Jeremy gets a hold of her, heâll cut his losses and sell her on?â Darryl
nods his head, âthen she stays. Iâll make sure of it, for her own safety.â
âGood, I donât want you losing your mate. Itâs hard for an Alpha to lose their mate and youâve suffered
enough.â I give Darryl a small smile, if

anyone knows about losing a mate itâs the man sitting across from me. âIâve given Rowan a run down of
my suspicions about John, someone is getting the drugs to him. There is no way heâs still high off that
first dose.â I suspected as much, I just hoped Darryl could provide a different insight.
âGuess I need to figure out who is dealing then,â I pinch the bridge of my nose, I knew being Alpha
wasnât going to be easy but I thought my biggest hurdle would be the Pack. âAre you leaving?â
âYeah, got the car all Packed up. I need to get back to Grey Pack, I have some sh it of my own going
down,â Darryl sighs before getting up from the chair, his slumped shoulders and his eyes are both
telling me heâs not sleeping.
âAnything I can help with?â I want to return the favour but I donât know where Iâll find the time.
âNot unless you know how to become mated before another Alpha challenges you.â My eyes widen as I
realise the sh Darryl must be dealing with.
âYou know Everfur and even Swiftmane will side beside you, we wonât allow you to be pushed out just
because you donât have a mate.â Darryl shakes his head as he walks to the door.
âThis is my fight, I know I have a mate out there, I just havenât met her yet.â Without another word
Darryl nods his head at me and walks out of the office, closing the door behind him. Once Iâm alone I sit
and watch the closed floor for a few minutes before opening my laptop and pulling up my emails. Darryl
might not want my help but heâs going to get it anyway, he helped Fraction with Anna and now heâs
here
helping me with Eva. The man deserves a good woman at his side and Iâll be da mned if he loses his
Pack while hunting for her. I might be

overwhelmed at the moment but I know a certain Alpha not too far from Darryl who owes Darryl a big
debt.
âAnd if Fraction wonât help?â I shrug off Storm as I write the email out.
âHeâll help. he wonât ignore this. Heâs a good man who has a good Luna on his side, if he wont help she
will.â I smile as I think of Fractionâs Omega, Anna is a ray of sunshine in the dark, she can bring any
man to his knees and beg for mercy. As if I donât want to make a big deal of it I add a line to Anna at
the end of the email explaining that Eva got her wolf and it turns out sheâs Omega, you never know, she
might be able to offer me some insight into how Pack-less Omegaâs think.
âImagine my surprise when I turn around and see a tiny dark haired Omega sitting at my breakfast bar
all by herself.â I click send on the email just as Sallyâs voice comes over the Pack link, itâs not often she
uses the link, she calls it intrusive.
âEva is up there? She came up alone?â Iâm already rising from my chair, I didnât even hear her leave the
bedroom which shows how wrapped up in Darryl I was.
âDrinking some hot water and lemon, looking like sheâs been run over by a truck. Poor lass looked
terrified but she got up here, all by herself.â I smile as I walk from the office and lock the door behind
me. I quickly run up the stairs, I donât want Eva alone longer than she needs to be but I am happy she
made it up here on her own. Hopefully that means sheâs finally starting to feel comfortable around the
Pack house.
âWhat is she doing here?â I roll my eyes as the first voice I hear is from my mother, I quickly walk from
the lounge and round to the kitchen.
âMother, nice of you to squeal so early in the morning.â Eva is sitting at the breakfast bar looking slightly
paler than normal, sheâs still

wearing my black t-shirt but sheâs had the sense to put on some sleep shorts and slippers. âMorning
Angel, sorry I had a meeting this morning or I would have stuck around.â My mothers eyes go wide as
she assumes me and Eva spent the night together. I have no desire to correct her either.
âDarryl left, why didnât she go with him?â I sigh as I walk over and kiss. Sally on the cheek, accepting
the fresh cup of coffee sheâs made me, black with two sugars, perfect.
âEva is staying here, I told you this. If you donât like it, feel free to leave.â Leaning against the counter I
cross my arms over my chest and sip from my cup. Eva looks like she wants to bolt but I just wink at
her.
âThis is my house and I want breakfast.â I gesture to one of the chairs. with my coffee cup.
âAs Alpha this is my house, anyone from the Pack is welcome to breakfast. Just take a seat and Iâm
sure Sally would be happy to get you what sheâs cooked up this morning. âI look over at Sally and see
her pulling some muf f ins from the oven. they look perfect as usual. âBlueberry?â I ask her and she just
nods.
âItâs Evaâs favourite, she always gobbles down two or three.â Eva blushes as we all ignore my mother, I
refuse to give her any more
attention.
âI heard she likes raspberries.â Eva sticks her tongue out at me as I just bark out a laugh. By the time
Sally has put a mu ffin on a plate in front of Eva my mother has left the kitchen.
