Chapter 64

“Both of you take good care of him. When he returns, ask him to come for dinner, I haven’t seen him for almost two months. Tell him that I miss him,” Jerome said solemnly.

“Yes, Grandpa,” Victor and Andrew replied in unison.

Calvin didn’t want to continue that topic. He always nitpicked and despised Clayton and never cared about him. Even outsiders knew Clayton better than him. No matter how shameless Calvin was, he knew he was wrong.

Thus, he changed the topic to several children present.

“Colette is studying computer science, huh? Girls who major in computer science are smart and have a high IQ,” Calvin said to Colette with a smile.

Colette resembled the Maguire family but had a brisk, heroic demeanor. With a smile, she replied, “I just started school. The legend of the computer science department is a senior named Isabella. She has a high IQ. All the girls in our university admire and take her as an example.”

Victor raised his eyebrow. “How many Isabellas are there in the computer science department of the University of Moulmore?”

Colette was stunned. “Only one.”

Hearing that, Victor and Andrew exchanged glances, and Andrew nodded.

Victor was somewhat surprised, as he didn’t expect the skinny Isabella to be so talented.

Carmelo became interested and asked, “Colette, is it the girl who won the gold medal in the national competition in her freshman year?”

Colette nodded. “Yes!”

Carmelo said yearningly, “I’ll get into the University of Moulmore tomorrow, then, and she’ll become my senior, too.”

Andrew patted him on the shoulder, saying, “Let’s wait until you pass the exam.”

Carmelo glared at him. “You don’t think I can pass the exam, huh?”

While Andrew and Carmelo argued, Calvin asked, “Carmelo, are you going to study computer science, too?”

Carmelo nodded and replied politely, “Studying computer science has always been my interest and my dream.”

Channing looked at him enviously. “Doesn’t your family require you to learn something related to the family business, such as accounting, human resources, and business management?”

Carmelo chuckled. “Edmund and Victor have already worked in Maguire Group. We don’t need to study those anymore, so Andrew studies medicine, and Colette majors in computer science. I will also study computer science in the future.”

Channing said to Calvin, “Dad, Gabriel, and Clayton are already working in the company. Why can’t I learn painting instead of business management?”

Calvin glared at him. “So what? If you don’t learn this, how can you compete with them for the inheritance? What’s the point of learning painting? When are you going to be as sensible as your sisters? You can work in Murray Corporation or Rayson International when you graduate. No one will hire a painting student.”

Seeing Channing stubborn again, Jennje hurriedly said, “Why are you so ignorant? Your dad won’t harm you. Be good, and don’t talk nonsense again.”

Jerome’s eyes darkened. Looking at Benny’s son and grandson, he felt sorry for him.

He shifted his gaze to his three grandchildren and one granddaughter and felt relieved.

Jennie gazed at Victor gently and said to Jerome, “The Maguire family children are truly outstanding. Carmelo is going to take the university entrance exam at such a young age. That’s impressive.”

Jerome laughed and looked at Carmelo and Colette dotingly. “They’re always in ah do everything, even in academics. They had been skipping grades since studying in elementary school until high school. What’s the rush? So when it was Colette and Carmelo’s turn, I decided not to let them skip grades after elementary school. They must stay in the country to finish college, not go abroad at a young age like their brothers. I could barely see them in a year. Colette, my only granddaughter, especially. She’s not allowed to leave me.”

He spoke with a tone that exuded a sense of pride, dependence, and playfulness.

Colette hurriedly walked up to Jerome, poured water for him, and nuzzled her face against his cheeks. “All right, Granddad. I won’t go abroad but stay home with you all the time. How can I leave with such a good granddad?”

Jerome laughed happily.

The three brothers of the Maguire family had seen how Colette coaxed Jerome before.

“What a sensible girl Colette is.” Calvin praised with a smile.

Jennie glanced at Mandy and mused, ‘They’re the same age. Colette can coax Jerome well, but Mandy dares not to say anything in front of Benny. No wonder Colette can receive such favor even though she’s only a maternal granddaughter.‘

She glanced at Channing and saw him secretly looking at Colette, who was smiling brightly.

As for Mandy, her eyes were lingering between Victor and Andrew.

A thought flashed across Jennie’s mind.

‘This trip is indeed worthwhile,‘ she whispered inwardly.

She had always known and tacitly supported Queenie. If Queenie could marry Clayton, she would have one more chip to control Clayton in

the future.

But now it seemed that Victor and Andrew were also good choices.

After all, there were certain risks in marrying Clayton. If Clayton couldn’t get the Murray family’s inheritance in the future, he would still be a little short on power with Rayson International alone. Victor and Andrew were different from him.

The Maguire family was way wealthier than the Murray family now. After all, the Murray family’s wealth had been divided into two, which were Murray Corporation and Rayson International. The future was still unknown, but things would be different if Mandy and Queenie could marry into the Maguire family.

But Jennie had a problem deciding the match for Victor and Andrew.

Although Victor was more outstanding, she hoped Queenie could marry him. She could tell many people were coveting Victor, and such a life would not suit the naive and straightforward Mandy.

As for Queenie, she had been with Jennie for many years. They were as close as a mother and daughter, so Jennie must choose a good

marriage for Queenie. As an aunt, she couldn’t care less about whether Queenie was happy in her relationship.

Andrew was a doctor. As a Maguire, he would live comfortably in his life. Only being his wife could make one truly happy.

Jennie’s smile became gentler and sweeter as she thought of that.

“Victor, Andrew, hurry up and find a girlfriend for Edmund so he can get married soon,” Colette begged in a low voice everyone could hear.

Everyone was stunned.

Andrew asked curiously, “Why do you care about that?”

Colette shrugged and glanced at Jerome. “If Edmund got married and had a baby, Granddad would hold the baby every day and tell me, ‘Colette, go abroad, and stay far away. I have your nephew now and don’t need you anymore.“”

After saying that, she laughed out loud.

Everyone, too, burst into laughter. Even Victor smiled faintly.

Jerome laughed and pointed at Colette. “Bad girl, are you saying that I’m fickle?”

Colette leaned against Carmelo and kept laughing. Her cheeks flushed, making her look more beautiful.

Jerome dampened his smile and said to Colette, “But if you can make Edmund get married earlier, I’ll reward you and give you whatever you want.”

Colette thought it over and asked, “Does it apply to Victor and Andrew?”

Jerome glanced at them before nodding. “Either of them will do as long as there’s evidence to prove that you’re the one who made it happen.”

“Grandpa, I want a reward, too,” Carmelo chimed in.

Jerome nodded. “Discuss it with Colette, then.”

Andrew said with a bitter face, “Grandpa, you can’t do this. Just setting Edmund up will do. Victor and I didn’t offend you,”

Colette had reached out to Jerome and said, “Granddad, keep your word. Carmelo and I have to start planning now.”

Jerome gave Colette a high five.

Andrew smiled bitterly at Victor. “Victor, they’re going to sell us.”

Victor replied calmly, “It’s okay. We have Edmund.”

Realization dawned on Andrew. He nodded and smiled. “You’re right! We have Edmund.”

Colette and Carmelo exchanged glances. “Well, we only look for the right candidate. There’s no particular order.”

Everyone laughed.

In truth, Calvin had always thought that one should respect seniority, like them in the Murray manor.

He had been trying to follow Benny’s example over the years.

Neither the elder nor the younger generation in the Maguire family acted their age. He knew Jennie was thinking about a marriage of convenience. It was fine for Queenie to marry into the Maguire family, but he would not allow Mandy to marry into such an unruly family.

He thought Colette didn’t look like a refined lady and wondered if she could get married in the future.

Gradually, he felt distressed. The seemingly unruly behavior somehow had the kindness and intimacy the Murray family had never had before.

Colette was cheerful and generous, not as reserved as Mandy and Queenie.

Compared with Carmelo, who was a few years younger than Channing, he had to admit that Channing was not as cheerful and astute as Carmelo.

For the first time in his life, he doubted what he had always insisted on.

Jennie observed the children secretly with loving eyes and became more determined to have a marriage of convenience.

In such a family, a marriage of convenience not only could bring economic benefits but also make her children happy for the rest of their lives. As a woman, only she knew how much she yearned for such a harmonious and intimate family life.

She might look gorgeous after marrying into the Murray family, but in fact, she had an immature husband, a harsh and cold father–in–law, an ungrateful stepson, and in–laws who were lurking in the shadows. She had already felt exhausted. If it weren’t for her two children’s future and the maternal family she must support, she might be unable to hold on anymore.

Therefore, she didn’t want her children to live the way she did, and the Maguire family was an absolutely good match.

She shifted her gaze between Victor and Andrew and chose her heart.

She thought Colette was an honest girl, who would be obedient and easy to manipulate after getting married. With her status in the Maguire family, Channing wouldn’t have to work hard anymore.

The two children of the Murray family and Queenie envied the Maguire family’s children and their lovely grandfather.
