Chapter 396
Tasting All My Mates
396-He Got Himself A Sexy Assistant.
âLazio! I told you, he instigated me.â I answered him quietly. His eyes were glaring into my soul, making me vulnerable.
âHe had seen his father die. What did you expect from him? You were supposed to use your brain in that situation,â he yelled again, slamming his hands on the desk once more.
I felt trapped in the cage of his eyes. He seemed to be judging me.

The curse was lifted, and all the spells that ruined their lives vanished too. They all should have been normal, but the only thing that changed was my condition.
âI have seen him die, too. I stood there watching the person die, while the person who should have been there to see that died because of me,â I murmured, pouring my heart out to Lazio. My lips quivered so miserably that for a moment, I felt bad, like I should have stayed stronger.
âWhat? Where did you get that from now?â He frowned as he questioned my statement.
âHe said that to me. He claimed that I was the reason Thiago died. Now you see why I lost my temper with him?â I made a point, speaking in my mouth.
âThatâs just bullshit. Enya! I was there when he made a decision to save your life and give up on his own.â Lazio shook his head when he reminded me of that horrible night.
âThatâs what we know. But Corbinââ I was about to break down when a scoff from Lazio stole my attention. It was a surprise to see how he rolled his eyes when watching my eyes fill with tears.
âAnd now you are going to use that statement to mourn some more. Itâsâ,â he sighed, exhausted, âone thing after another with you. Itâs as if we all grew up and moved on, but you are still stuck in the phase of your life where you were the lead, the centre of attention,â he said in a most tired tone, and instead of sitting down to finish dinner, he gave up. He walked out of the dining room to call it a night, but his words were engraved in my memory.
I donât know why I expected him to understand and comfort me. He was tired of my everyday complaints.
I couldnât eat anything after that. I spent another three hours cleaning the kitchen because, while cooking for me, Lazio had created such a mess of the kitchen.
After I was finally done with all the chores, I walked upstairs to go to sleep.
Lazio had already been in the bed and fallen asleep. He even took most of the bed.
I woke up early, like every day, and quickly prepared breakfast and Lazioâs suit for the day. Except for me, he didnât like anyone else in the kitchen. I didnât know how to cook until two months after he told me to take cooking classes and learn to take care of everything in the house. I wasnât particularly interested in the affairs of the pack. Actually, he didnât like me poking my nose into pack matters.
He liked to take care of his pack in his own way.
âBreakfast is ready,â I told him when he walked out of the bathroom in a grey suit.
âYou are not ready?â He stopped fixing his tie to look at me with a look of bewilderment on his face.
âBy the time youâre done eating, Iâll be ready,â I told him while fixing the bed.
Our morning routine was always a bit busy. I had to make sure the entire mansion was clean and also keep a close eye on the omegas. But now that he had asked me to join the office with him, my work increased.
I wore a black pencil skirt and a black coat for my first day. My curled hair bounced when I walked downstairs, wearing high heels.
âReady?â He barely looked my way. I kind of expected him to at least spare me a glance, but he seemed more intrigued by the toast than by what I was wearing. After he was done with the breakfast, we walked out of the mansion and sat in the car together.
âValerie will show you around and be your guide for the day,â Lazio said, focusing on his phone while sitting in the passenger seat of his car with me.
âValerie? Do I know her?â I asked, since he had mentioned his other colleagues once, but I never heard of her. In my head, I was thinking maybe she was also newly appointed.
âOh! Iâm afraid not. Valerie Roland is the Ex-Royal Gammaâs daughter and my personal assistant,â he said, answering my questions but confusing me a little more with the way he described her.
âShe and I used to be in middle school. It was the time when I first joined school and wasnât in too much control of your motherâs magic because she had already died already.â He said, bringing up my mother and making me uncomfortable. I didnât want him to feel any sort of pressure whenever he recalled his past. He had every right to cope the way he wanted to. I just didnât like how he wouldnât talk to me for hours after remembering what my mother did.
Sometimes I felt like he might think I was responsible for everything.
âShe is a good friend and a wonderful person. She will take good care of you.â
He then finally put his phone down and stared outside the window. I kept looking his way and trying to understand where it all went wrong.
I mean, he barely ever noticed me. I have never seen him look at me like a mate looks at his beloved mate. We were not forced into marking each other.
We had such a beautiful history together.
Once we reached the building, he got out of the car and didnât even hold the door for me. I knew I needed to stop constantly complaining about everything in my head, but I was pretty alone. Nia used to accompany me in those situations in the past.
âGood morning!â A cheerful voice made me raise my head when following Lazio in silence to look at the beautiful blonde greeting Lazio.
She had such a remarkable beauty that I felt insecure just by the way Lazio was looking at her.
