Ex-Husband’s Love Dilemma by Jean Oscar ( Cassandra Jackson ) Chapter 40
Ex-Husband’s Love Dilemma
Chapter 40
Everyone was about to move to the hall when William suddenly said, âCassie, come and help me.â
Okay. Cassandra hurried over.
Peter slowed down until everyone had entered the hall before saying to Cassandra, âCassie, donât worry.â
âGrundpa Peter, 1 stand by my decision. Donât let him know that I am pregnant,â Cassandra said.
âOkay, rest assured,â said Peter, as he patted the back of her hand to comfort her.
Cassandra breathed a sigh of relief.
Weston Garrett, who came to have a physical examination, had worked for the Quinn family for many years, so they were all familiar with each other.
After everyone sat down, Orlando said. âMr. Garrett, thanks for making the trip here. Cassandra often vomits lately. What could be the cause?â
Weston paused for a moment, and a smile appeared on his face. But before he could say anything. Peter said, âLet him take at look at me first. Iâm an old man. I feel my heart beating fast lately. Could you examine it to see if there is any problem?â
Frederick was worried when he heard that Peter was not feeling well and asked, âDad, are you all right?â
âDonât be nervous. Itâs nothing serious. I just want Dr. Garrett to take a look at me. Well, Iâll go back to my room and lie down. You can come to my room to examine me,â Peter said.
Weston nodded and followed Peter back to the room with his stethoscope..
Frederick tried to keep up, but he was turned down.
Gabriela was confused. âWhatâs wrong with Peter? Why is he acting so mysteriously?â
Orlando also looked at Peterâs back with an enigmatic look on his face. As the party involved, Cassandra naturally knew why Peter was acting that way.
Hence, Cassandra said softly, âGrandpa Peter must be fired and hasnât had a good rest for the whole morning. Itâs good to have Mr. Garrett have a look at him. If thereâs anything wrong, weâll be able to look into it in time.â
âYes, Cassie is right. Well, letâs not worry about it.â Gabriela also thought it was reasonable. Then, she had the fruit washed and handed it to Cassandra, âYou havenât eaten much. Eat some fruit, or your stomach will be upset.
âOkay, thank you, Gabriela, Cassandra said with a nod.
About ten minutes later, Weston came out of Peterâs bedroom.
Frederick immediately asked, âWeston, is my dad okay?â
âItâs okay. He is in good health. Donât worry,â Weston assured him.
âReally?â Frederick asked again.
âDo you think Iâd lie to you?â Weston smiled and made his way to Cassandra. âCome on, let me examine you.â
After some basic examinations, Weston said to Cassandra, âNothing serious. Itâs just a bad appetite caused by your stomach and intestines. Eat light food, and it will be fine after a while. You should pay attention to rest, and you must maintain a

pleasant mood at all times
The more Gabriela beard it, the more amused she was. She said, âWeston, if you didnât say that Cassie had a stomachache; 1 would have thought that Cassie was pregnant.â
Gabrielaâs words were unintentional, but those who heard them went silent.
Cassandra pursed her lips slightly, and her face stiffened a little. Her bright eyes were filled with obvious uneasiness. She subconsciously looked up at Orlando, and he happened to be staring right at her.
They locked eyes with each other. Cassandra did not dare to continue looking and quickly lowered her head and averted her
gaze.
Orlandoâs eyes were still fixed on her. Her reaction was strange, which made him wonder what she was trying to hide.
Weston responded indifferently. âShe will have a baby eventually. Now, she has to take good care of herselfâ
Thank you, Mr. Garrett, Cassandra muttered.
Weston just smiled and said, âYouâre welcome. Take care. If you have any questions, please contact me directly
âOkay. âCassandra nodded. She understood what Weston was implying.
Weston didnât prescribe medicine and just reminded her to be mindful of her diet. He didnât linger before Frederick saw him out the door.
Cassandra finally breathed a sigh of relief. She collapsed on the couch, and Gabriela made an excuse to go upstairs to make space for Orlando and Cassandra.
Suddenly, only Cassandra and Orlando were left in the hall.
Orlando walked to Cassandra and sat down. He turned around, stared at her, and asked, âWhy were you avoiding my gaze?â
Cassandra thought. Whatâs bound to happen has eventually happened:
Orlando was a man who would think deeply of any doubt, and he would be sure to get to the bottom of everything.
Cassandra calmed down and said. âI wasnât afraid to look at you. I was just thinking about something.â
âWhat were you thinking about?â Orlando asked.
âI was worried about my health, but I was relieved after what Mr. Garrett said,â Cassandra explained.
âReally?â Orlando asked again
âWhat do you think happened to me, then? Do you really think Iâm pregnant?â Cassandra asked in the most casual tone,
Orlando squinted as if gauging her words.
After a few seconds, he said indifferently, âTell me if you feel uncomfortable. Donât struggle alone. Itâs your body, after all.â
Cassandra just hummed and said nothing more..
Of course, she wouldnât flatter herself that he cared about her because he liked her. He was only saying that out of a husbandâs responsibility.
At this time, the old housekeeper, Alfred, came out of Peterâs bedroom. He had worked for Peter for many years and commanded respect from both Frederick and Orlando. They respected Alfred very much.

Alfred said, âOrlando, Mr. Quinn wants you to go inside. He wishes to speak to you.â
âOnly me? Orlando asked.
âYes,â Alfred said.
âOkayâ Orlando stood up and stopped when he was about to step forward. He looked down at Cassandra on the couch and whispered, âWait for me here.â
Before Cassandra could respond, he had already gone to see Peter.
Cassandra paused and thought, Why did he ask me to wait for him here?â
In the bedroom, after Orlando came in, Peter let him sit down. He was not as belligerent as before. Peter was now his usual self, calm and composed.
Orlando asked, âGrandpa, are you looking for me?â
âYes. I have something to ask you alone,â Peter said.
âPlease, go ahead, Orlando said.
Peter looked a little serious, but his tone was very gentle. âDo you really want to divorce Cassie?â
Orlandoâs eyebrows moved slightly, and his deep eyes were fixed on Peter. He said, âGrandpa, I donât understand what you
mean.â
âDo you really not understand or pretend not to?â Peter asked pointedly.
âDidnât you already agree to our divorce? Why are you asking me such a question now?â Orlando looked at Peter and asked in puzzlement.
Peter looked calm and didnât show any emotions at all and merely said, âThe marriage with the Jackson family a year ago was supposed to let Suzanne marry you, but Mr. Jackson came to me and insisted that Cassie marry into our family. Do you know why?â
