Ex-Husband’s Love Dilemma by Jean Oscar ( Cassandra Jackson ) Chapter 7
Ex-Husband’s Love Dilemma
Chapter 7
With a trace of a cold smile, Cassandraâs tone carried a clear undertone of indifference. âDoes what I feel matter? If Ms. Spencer truly cared, she wouldnât have called at such a late hour. Yet, she did, and now thereâs no need for guilt or regret. Weâve signed the divorce papers already, weâre essentially divorced.â
Orlando simply watched her. Her words woke a swirl of emotions in him. It was exactly as heâd expected, but her response stirred an undesired feeling within him. Subtle but persistent, it tugged at him, etching a frown on his face. Once again, he reiterated his point. âCassandra, if youâre upset, direct it at me. I was the one who asked you to bring the clothes. Rebecca is vulnerable. She canât handle additional stress.â
Cassandra absorbed his words, thoughtfully pausing. âSo, heâs worried about Rebeccaâs feelings, but mine⦠those can be sacrificed. A bitter realization washed over her.
Sensing the mounting tension, Rebecca tried to intervene. Holding Orlandoâs hand, her voice quivering with guilt. âLandy, donât be so hard on Cassandra. Itâs my fault, really. I shouldnât have bothered her.â Looking earnestly at Cassandra, she continued, âI am truly sorry for causing you all this trouble.ââ
Cassandraâs expression didnât budge, her gaze remaining cool and indifferent. Catching the chill that hung in Cassandraâs silence, a flush touched Rebeccaâs cheeks.
Cassandra, with a newfound clarity about Orlandoâs feelings, broke the silence in the room. âLetâs set up a date to finish up the procedures.â
In response, Orlandoâs voice came out cold and short. âMonday morningâ
Today was Friday, which meant Monday was just a couple of days away.
âAll right, then. Iâll leave you two to it,â Cassandra said lightly, turning to make her exit.
Orlando didnât respond, his face carrying a sour expression. âDid I say something wrong?â Cassandra wondered, a streak of bitter laughter flashing across her face as she left the room.

Orlandoâs reply was indifferent. âThereâs nothing left to discuss.â His words conveyed indifference, but his body language told a different storyâa face marred by tension, his brows furrowed in clear annoyance.

âWhy has she become so stubborn?â He found himself puzzling over her change.
Cassandra walked away from the ward, her eyes welling up with silent tears.
She had prepared herself ever since Orlando had proposed the divorce. But the sight of him with Rebecca was a reality check, piercing her heart with a pain she was struggling to cope with.
With a heavy heart, Cassandra returned to Dustmeadow Mansion, a wedding gift from Orlandoâs grandfather, Peter Quinn. Her move to the mansion marked the beginning of her marriage, and a year had passed since. A year lined with vivid memories was drawing to a close.
Before wrapping up the official divorce paperwork, Cassandra had to find a new place to live, considering her familyâs not so welcoming attitude.
Thoughts of revealing her divorce to her family led her to the Jackson residence, a place she frequently avoided visiting postâmarriage due to her mother Evelynâs evident distaste for her.
Just as she reached the door, an earnest conversation caught her attention. âMom, with Rebecca awake and Orlando perpetually by her side, can we just sit back and watch? What if Rebecca remembersâ¦â
âSuzanne, letâs not drum up that topic again. Concentrate on your internship at the Jackson Group and your upcoming design competition,â Evelynâs voice, gentle and affectionate, came as a mild reprimand.
Surprised by the mention of Rebecca, Cassandra chose to ignore the halfâheard conversation. Resolutely, she walked into the living room.
âMom, Iâm back,â she announced in a soft tone.
Upon hearing her, Evelyn, who was seated on the living room couch, looked up. She had an air of restrained elegance around her, and her features bore a similarity to Cassandraâs.
Taken aback by the unexpected arrival of Cassandra, both Evelyn and Suzanne, Cassandraâs elder sister, greeted her with surprise. Suzanne managed a slight smile, addressing her with a mix of disbelief and curiosity, âCassandra, what a surprise! Were you listening to us just now?â
