Chapter 24

Love in the Air

Mrs. & Mrs. Elahi ( INTERSEX GxG )

Zara’s POV

The tension from the family meeting had finally melted away, leaving Lina and me with something we hadn’t had in a long time—peace.

After everyone left, I found her curled up on the couch in the sunroom, her arms wrapped around a throw pillow. Her eyes were closed, and for a second, I thought she was asleep. But as I moved closer, she peeked one eye open and gave me a sleepy smile.

“Hey,” she mumbled, her voice soft and sweet.

“Hey,” I replied, sitting down beside her. “Tired?”

She nodded, rubbing her eyes like a child who didn’t want to admit it. “Today was… a lot. But good, I think.”

“It was,” I agreed, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. Her cheeks flushed at the touch, and my heart skipped a beat. How was it possible for someone to look so adorable and so beautiful at the same time?

Lina leaned into my touch, her big, expressive eyes looking up at me with so much trust it made my chest ache. “Zara,” she whispered, “you were amazing today. I don’t know how you stayed so calm.”

I smiled, brushing my thumb over her cheek. “Because I had you. You make it easy to be brave.”

She let out a soft laugh, the sound warm and full of affection. “You’re such a sap.”

“For you? Always,” I said, leaning in to press a kiss to her forehead.

Lina’s POV

The way Zara looked at me made me feel like the most important person in the world. Her dark eyes were so full of warmth, and her touch was so gentle, it made my heart flutter.

“You’re too perfect,” I teased, though my voice came out softer than I intended.

She chuckled, taking my hand in hers. Her thumb brushed over my knuckles, sending little sparks up my arm. “I’m not perfect,” she said. “But you make me want to try.”

I felt my cheeks heat up, and I buried my face in her shoulder to hide my blush. “Stop being so sweet,” I mumbled, though I secretly loved it.

Zara laughed, wrapping her arms around me and pulling me closer. “You’re cute when you’re shy,” she murmured into my hair.

“Am not,” I protested, my voice muffled against her.

“You are,” she insisted, placing a kiss on the top of my head. “And I love it.”

My heart skipped at her words, and I pulled back just enough to look at her. “You… love it?”

She nodded, her expression serious now. “Lina, I’m in love with you. Completely, hopelessly, ridiculously in love with you.”

For a moment, all I could do was stare at her, my mind spinning. Then, without thinking, I threw my arms around her neck and buried my face in her shoulder again. “You’re not allowed to make me cry,” I whispered, though I could feel tears prickling at the corners of my eyes.

Zara held me tightly, her hand gently stroking my back. “I’m sorry,” she said, her voice full of warmth and a hint of amusement. “But I’m not taking it back.”

Zara’s POV

Holding Lina like this felt like the most natural thing in the world. She was soft and warm in my arms, and the way she clung to me made me feel like I was the only person who could make her feel safe.

“I love you too,” she mumbled against my shoulder, her voice barely audible but carrying enough weight to make my heart soar.

“Say it again,” I teased, wanting to hear the words one more time.

She pulled back just enough to look at me, her cheeks red but her eyes shining. “I love you, Zara.”

I couldn’t help myself—I leaned in and kissed her, a soft, lingering kiss that felt like a promise. When we pulled apart, she let out a soft giggle, her nose scrunching up in that adorable way I loved.

“What’s so funny?” I asked, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

“You,” she said, poking my cheek. “You’re supposed to be the cool, composed one, but you’re just as sappy as me.”

I laughed, pulling her close again. “I guess you bring it out of me.”

---

Lina’s POV

We spent the rest of the evening wrapped up in each other, talking and laughing about everything and nothing. Zara’s hand never left mine, and every now and then, she’d steal a kiss on my cheek or my hand, making my heart flutter every time.

By the time the sun set, I felt like the luckiest person in the world.

“Zara,” I said softly as we sat together, watching the stars come out.

“Hmm?” she murmured, her head resting on mine.

“Promise me we’ll always be like this,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

She kissed the top of my head, her arms tightening around me. “I promise,” she said, her voice steady and sure.

And for the first time in a long time, I felt completely at peace.
