Chapter 177
Melody Strikes Back
Chapter 177
James didnât want to suspect Janet.
He wasnât blind. He clearly saw that Janetâs expression as she watched Ken and Melody walk away looked like she wanted to devour someone, sending chills down his spine.
He had never seen this side of Janet before.
Given Janetâs bet on poaching Zack as a condition for Melody joning the companyâs HR department, it was indeed hard not to suspect something related to Fordâs affair.
Janet asked in confusion. âWhat do you want to ask? Go ahead.â
James hesitated before saying, âJanet, I mentioned to you before about Miss Fox helping Zackâs grandfather with his illness. Have you told anyone else about it?â
Janetâs expression froze, then she looked bewildered and said. âNo. I didnât tell anyone.â
James asked, âAre you sure? Think carefully. Did you mention it to anyone unintentionally?â
Janet furrowed her brow as if recalling, and after a moment, she shook her head and said, âNo, I havenât told anyone. Itâs not exactly an interesting topic to bring up everywhere, is it?â
After she finished speaking, Janet looked at James and asked, âWhy are you suddenly asking me this?â
James fumbled for words, but under Janetâs gaze, he had to say honestly, âZack suddenly moved, and the reason seems to be that he found out Miss Fox was treating Ford and became suspicious of her motives.â
Janet nodded, then suddenly asked, âWait, James, are you suspecting me of deliberately leaking the information to preventi Melody from poaching Zack?â
âI didnâtâ¦â James couldnât lie. His expression immediately betrayed him when he tried.
âWell thenâ¦â Janetâs eyes filled with tears as she forced a bitter smile.
âJames, I considered you a friend, but is this what you think of me? I admit, I donât like Melody because of the way she is. I always feel sheâll harm Ken, and I donât trust her, But that doesnât mean Iâd ruin the chance for Zack to join us just because of Melody. Iâve dedicated so much to this company over the years thought you saw my efforts. Maybe I was mistaken.â
âNo⦠Janet, Iâm sorry⦠I didnât mean to doubt you. Itâs just that so few people knew about this. Jamesâ face turned red as he explained, âIâm really sorry, Janet. Iâll never doubt you again! Please forget what I said and forgive me this once!â
Janet smiled bitterly and said, âI donât mean to blame you, but please donât think of me as someone who lets personal feelings interfere with work.â
James said, âI wonât. Ken wonât either. Heâs just been busy and hasnât had time to consider your feelings. You know he never lets personal feelings get in the way of business.â
Janet nodded. âI understand. Go ahead, I want to be alone for a while.â
James quickly nodded and left, afraid that saying more would only make things worse.
As soon as James turned away, the grievance on Janetâs face vanished.
Her expression turned cold, her eyes narrowing with a sharp, icy light.
Janet thought, âSo, Melody is already trying to drive a wedge between me and James?

Chapter 177
She wouldnât let Melody succeed.
Ken would drive himself. Melody was about to sit in the back sein when she heard Kenâs deep voice asking, âAm I your chaulleur?â
Melody paused, hesitated for a second, then closed the door and sat in the passenger seat.
The car sped away from Ximber Tech, heading toward the Swanson villa.
Melody knew this trip to the Swanson family was to discuss the divorce.
She had been worried that after the divorce, she and Ken might no longer be allies. But the recent events rekindled her hope of joining forces with Ken to deal with Ulric.
While waiting at a red light, Ken glanced at Melody and couldnât help but ask, âYou donât seem curious about Ximber Tech at all. Arenât you curious why I founded this company and kept it a secret?â
He wasnât gossiping. It was just that Melodyâs calm reaction was too unusual.
Ken said. âIfeel like you know more about me than I do about myself, including Ximber Tech.â
âWellâ¦â Melody felt a bit guilty. âItâs not that Iâm not curious. I just think youâll tell me if you want to. If you donât want to, thereâs no point in askingâ
This successfully dispelled Kenâs suspicion. He looked away, then after a moment of silence, said, âIt started as an interest, then unintentionally grew from a small lab to a small company, and now into Ximber Tech. The Swanson familyâs business is too dirty for my liking, and I donât want to compete with Ulric Once I reclaim my motherâs Pearly Antiques, Iâll take my grandmother and cut ties with the Swanson family,â
Melody was surprised, looking at Ken. She didnât expect Ken to tell her this.
These were things she didnât know in her previous life,
Hearing that Ken wanted to cut ties with the Swanson family, Melody couldnât help but say, âBesides Margaret, I donât like the Swanson family either. But you have a share in it. Thereâs no need to let Ulric take it all. Plus, he accused you of crippling your own brother. Are you willing to give the entire Swanson family to him?
âTo me, only my grandmother and my motherâs Pearly Antiques matter. What others think or say doesnât matter. As for Ulric, as long as he doesnât bother me, he can do as he likes, Ken said.
âYour tolerance⦠If Ulric had half of it, he wouldnât have done what he did,â Melody said.
If Ulric knew that the Swanson family, which he schemed so hard to get, was something Ken didnât even care about, he would be furious.
Melody opened her mouth but didnât continue to persuade Ken
She knew that no matter how much Ken conceded, Ulric would still stop at nothing to eliminate him.
Their war would never end until one of them was defeated.
All Melody could do was wait for Ulric to make a move, wait for Ken to change his mind, and then join him to deal with Ulric
Striking now would only be counterproductive.
Soon, they arrived at the Swanson villa.
