Chapter 6
Triplet Mommy’s Triumphant Return
After settling down in Harbour Villa, Melanie went to work at Rising Star the next day.
Since Melanie returned to Zerivia this time, her uncle, Stanley Thomas, gave her full support and directly appointed her as the CEO of Rising Star Auction Beloris Branch.
Standing in front of the French glass window of the CEOâs office, Melanie stared at Steveâs Art Gallery on Springerglow Avenue in the distance.
Melanie remembered Sherry saying that what she wanted most was to run a small gallery with Steve. She wanted to paint and hold exhibitions. She wanted to live a lively and peaceful life.
But when Melanie was one year old, Steve suddenly upgraded the small gallery into an art museum.
After more than a decade of operation, Steve was now one of the top art dealers in Beloris.
âMom didnât want it at all,â Melanie murmured with her fingers clenching.
Just as Melanie was lost in thought, Angie pushed the door open and came in. Seeing Melanieâs upset face, Angie reached out and stuffed a chocolate into Melanieâs mouth.
âMelanie, I have good news for you,â Angie said mysteriously.
âWhat good news? Did Sam have any discovery?â Melanie asked.
âHow did you know?â Angie was a little surprised.
Then Angie continued with a smile, âTomorrow is the engagement of Vanessa and Ryan Smith. Oh, thereâs quite a surprise in store for them!â
âOkay, just do it neatly,â said Melanie.
While they were talking, Jeff Lewis, Melanieâs assistant, came in with an awkward look.
âMs. Robertson, there are many people outside who want to see you. One of them claims to be your fatherâ¦â Jeff said.
âSteve?â Angie blurted out and looked at Melanie in surprise.
Melanie didnât say anything and was lost in thought with a cup of coffee in her hand.
The steam in the coffee cup clouded Melanieâs face. Angie and Jeff couldnât see her expression clearly.
However, Angie smiled and said, âHeâs here soon. He came to recognize you as his daughter on the first day you come back to work.â
âLet him in,â said Melanie.
Then Melanie put down her coffee cup and said, âPlease bring him in, Jeff.â
When Steve came in, he saw Melanie sitting on the spacious chair.
Melanie was dressed in decent business attire. Her pretty face was still attractive.
Melanieâs bright eyes were even more captivating.
Steve was slightly shocked.
His daughter looked more and more like his dead ex-wife.
Their eyes, as pure as the finest diamonds, appeared capable of illuminating all the worldâs impurities and perceiving everything within.
Steve calmed himself down and put on a smile.
âMela, itâs really you. I thought it wasâ¦â Steve said.
âWhat? Did you think it was an impostor?â Melanie said.
She stood up and smiled at Steve.
âMy dear father, do you really think I was dead?â Melanie asked.
Hearing this, Steve turned embarrassed. His lips trembled slightly.
âMela, I had no choice back then. Please forgive me!â Steve said.
âForgive you?â
Melanie sneered and continued, âWas I not considerate enough? I have been considerate of you to let your dear daughter Vanessa slander me when I have been abroad these years. What else do you want from me?â
âMelaâ¦â
Steve was a little flustered.
He didnât expect that his obedient daughter was so sharp now.
Her every word was precisely and fiercely pierced into his heart.
âMela, itâs the first time we have met after so many years. Can we stop talking about the past first?â Steve asked.
Steve dodged Melanieâs stare and continued, âNow that you are the CEO of Rising Star, I will count on you in the future.â
Looking at Steveâs cowardly appearance, Melanie suddenly had a strong doubt in her heart.
Was this man really her father?
Was he really the man whom Sherry would marry even if she had to fall out with her parents?
Melanie felt disappointed and suddenly bored.
âMela, tomorrow is your sisterâs engagement day. I hope you can attend as the CEO of Rising Star,â Steve said.
âWell, what a pity, father. I donât have time,â said Melanie.
She sneered and added, âBut I will send the gift on time. Congratulations on Vanessaâs happy marriage!â
Steve looked surprised. Thinking of the gift that was about to shock the whole Beloris, Melanie was beyond delighted.
Melanie believed the Robertson family would be pleased with the gift.
âMela⦠Youâ¦â
Steve opened his mouth wide and couldnât say a word for a long time.
Originally, Steve had planned to invite Melanie to the engagement party of Vanessa and Ryan so that he could show off.
After all, most of the people who dealt with Steve were art dealers or industry players.
For those people, most of their annual income came from the annual Four Season Auction. If they could connect with the worldâs largest auction company, Rising Star Auction, it would bring them great benefits.
But Melanieâs simple refusal was out of Steveâs expectation.
She was like a completely different person.
