Chapter 89
Mafia Kings: Valentino: Dark Mafia Romance Series #6 by Olivia Thorn
Mafia Kings: Valentino: Chapter 89 Forty-eight hours before the wedding, I couldnât take it anymore.
I had to see Cat.
Even if it was just one last time...
I had to see her before everything else was taken away from me.
So I did the unthinkable.
I went to see Don Vicari in his study.
He glared up at me hatefully. âWhat?â
âIâd like to call my sister-in-law Alessandra,â I said.
âFuck off. You can talk to her when she arrives for the wedding.â
I gritted my teeth.
This was the part I really, really, really didnât want to do â
But even the chance of seeing Cat was worth it.
âIf you allow me to have a short phone call with her, Iâll apologize for everything I said the other day.â
Vicari looked at me, surprised â
And then broke out into a vicious smile. âAlright. Letâs hear it.â
I swallowed the bile that rose up in my throat. âI want your word first.â
âAt least youâre learning something,â he said smugly. âAlright... you apologize to my liking, then Iâll allow you a phone call with your sister-in-law. Which I will listen in on.â
Fucking son of a bitch.
âAnd what does âto your likingâ mean?â I asked.
âExactly what it sounds like.â
âIâll apologize. What Iâm not going to do is grovel.â
âThen fuck off.â
I would have gladly given my left arm to kill him.
But getting one last chance to see Cat was worth almost any sacrifice...
And it wouldnât even require the loss of any limbs.
...just my pride.
I at least knew one thing was certain:
He didnât give a shit about me saying I didnât want to marry Isabella.
He only cared that I had offended him.
I took a deep breath. âIâm sorry I tried to convince my brother to cancel the wedding. I shouldnât have done that. You were right;
you made a deal with my family, and I tried to sabotage it. That was disrespectful and wrong of me. I ask your forgiveness for my foolish behavior.â
âAnd for disrespecting me as your new Don,â he snarled.
I stopped short.
Dario was my Don.
But...
Vicari had a point.
I was marrying into his family...
And he was the leader of that family.
â...and for disrespecting you as my new Don,â I said quietly. âFor that, I ask your forgiveness.â
Vicari sat there smirking, obviously quite happy to see me bowing down to him.
And though I could see he was thinking about humiliating me further...
I knew he was also trying to avoid overplaying his hand like he had with Niccolo.
I was also betting he was itching to find out what was going on with my family.
He didnât trust me â or them â any further than he could throw us.
But he did have one more way to put me in my place.
He stood up from his chair...
Extended his hand...
And waited.
He wanted me to kiss the diamond ring on his middle finger like he was the fucking pope or something.
I stared at the ring.
Everything inside me recoiled in disgust.
But I forced myself to walk over...
Stoop down...
And kiss the ring.
When I stood up, I was silent.
Vicari looked enormously pleased with himself.
After all, he thought heâd just broken me.
âAlright... you can have your little phone call.â
