Chapter 91
Mafia Kings: Valentino: Dark Mafia Romance Series #6 by Olivia Thorn
Mafia Kings: Valentino: Chapter 91 I was overjoyed after talking to Alessandra.
I did my best to contain myself during dinner with Don Vicari and the old lady. However, Isabella must have noticed I was in a better mood because she kept glancing over at me.
After dinner, I had to take a walk outside because I was so excited.
Iâm going to see Cat tomorrow!
Just as I was about to enter the gardens, I heard a womanâs voice behind me.
âValentino?â
I looked around to see Isabella walking towards me.
Just her â no Ludavica.
âWhatâre you doing out here?â I asked.
âLooking for you.â
âBetter be careful,â I joked. âYour dad will send in the stormtroopers if he sees us together.â
She frowned. âNazi stormtroopers?â
Iâd meant Star Wars â but whatever.
âYeah. Those.â
âNow that weâre about to be married in two days,â she said, âI think everybodyâs a bit more relaxed.â
Now that weâre about to be married in two days.
Even in the hot summer air, the words still sent a chill down my spine.
They were about the only thing that could puncture my happiness about Cat.
â...yeah...â I muttered.
âCan we take a walk?â she asked as she gestured towards the gardens.
I looked around. âWhereâs Ludavica?â
âSheâs inside. I wanted to talk to you privately.â
I raised one eyebrow. âThat sounds kind of serious.â
âIt is.â
âOh. Alright â letâs go.â
We walked along the path, our feet crunching in the gravel. All around us were trees and bushes with fragrant flowers.
âSo what did you want to talk about?â I asked.
âYou seem... different today. Happier.â
âYeah?â I said casually.
âIs it because youâre going to see Caterina before the wedding?â she whispered.
I stopped in surprise. âHow did you know?â
She smiled. âI didnât until just now. But it was the only thing I could think of that would make you this happy.â
Shit.
Niccolo wouldâve seen that one coming from a mile away.
âSo you are?â she prodded.
â...yeah,â I admitted as we started walking again.
âWhen?â
I looked at her, trying to figure out if she might possibly betray me.
âI wonât try to stop you,â she promised. âAnd I wonât tell Papa. I swear on â â
She paused as she tried to think of something sacred to her.
If she said my fatherâs life, I was going to tell her to go fuck herself.
âOn every book Iâve ever loved,â she said, âand all the ones Iâll read and love in the future.â
...oh.
Okay.
For Isabella, I knew that was the equivalent of swearing on the souls of her children, her grandchildren, and her great-
grandchildren.
âTomorrow at noon,â I said.
Isabella looked at me in alarm. âSheâs not coming here, is she?â
âGod, no. Iâm meeting her at the chapel.â
âHow are you going to get there?â
âIâll walk.â
She nodded thoughtfully.
Then she asked, âYouâre not thinking of... running away with her, are you?â
I looked at her in surprise. âWhat? No.â
She looked at me sideways. âReally?â
âI canât. Iâd be betraying my family if I did.â
Isabella exhaled like a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders. âGood.â
âDid you think I was going to run off?â
She smiled sadly. âI was afraid you might.â
âWhy? You donât want to marry me, either.â
âNo, but... we might be able to help each other get what we want.â
âOkay, no more vague bullshit,â I said. âWhat the hell are you talking about?â
She hesitated...
Then finally spoke.
âBefore the... problem in Ortigia,â she said, by which I knew she meant Paolo, âI got to taste freedom for the first time in my life.
The days you took us to those cities? Those were some of the happiest times in my entire life.
âI donât care if youâre with Caterina after weâre married. As long as you can get me out of here â me and Ludavica â you can do whatever you want. Iâll be happy for you to do that.â
I frowned. âYouâre telling me that after weâre married, youâre perfectly fine if I cheat on you with another woman?â
Isabella looked frustrated. âDidnât you ever wonder why I wasnât interested in marrying you?â
Actually, yeah, I did.
Like I said, hundreds of the hottest chicks in Italy had thrown themselves at me â
But the beanpole bookworm?
Not interested in the slightest.
When I didnât immediately answer, Isabella kept talking.
âI mean, by all objective standards, youâre the most handsome man Iâve ever met.â
Okay, Iâll admit it:
Iâm a little vain.
Okay, fine, whatever â
Iâm really fucking vain.
So her saying that totally stroked my ego.
âThank you,â I said with a seductive smile.
She harrumphed. âI wasnât complimenting you. I was asking you, didnât that make you wonder?â
âI mean... yeah, kind of.â
âWell... youâre in love with Caterina... and Iâm in love with someone else, too.â
I was totally taken aback. âWho?! A guy who works for your father?â
Isabella narrowed her eyes like I was a fucking idiot.
âNot a guy.â
Oh.
Wait â
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
