Chapter 101
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âSo how is it?â I asked Christian. I decided to make breakfast and for the first time I did not burn down the house.
âI thought you were going to poison meâ¦but itâs actually edible,â Christian complimented me.
Besides. taking care of Siena, he got up every single morning to make me breakfast and cleaned up everything after me because I was a messy person and I felt terrible about it.
I always used to say that I was the one who was taking care of two babies, but it was actually the other way around.
âSo itâs good?â I asked for confirmation. âGina, what do you think? He has to be nice to me because he owes me that, you do not.â
âRight.â Gina smiled. âIâm still alive and I didnât throw up, so you did a great job. Like a five out of ten.â
âOnly a five?â I spoke offended while Christian glared at her. âGina, I told you we eat every single thing she serves us-even if we feel like throwing up!â He spoke as he playfully poked his finger in her cheek.
âIâm sorry, I donât like lying to her.â Gina apologized.
âIs your other half not here yet?â Christian asked as he sat down at the kitchen table. It was funny to see how bothered Christian was by my brother and the fact that he was here almost every day, but I was the one who invited him.
Now that I had Beau, I did not want to let go of him.
âNo, he isnât,â I told Christian. âAnd you better be nice when he gets here.â
The comments he made about Beau got on my nerves. I never said anything about his siblings, so I did not understand why he had so much to complain about mine. Respect had to come from both ways.
âI think we have to talk, you and Iâ¦we have to talk.â I sighed. âA talk?â Christian nervously asked.
âWhy, whatâs wrong?â
âOh, no-nothing with you, donât worry.â I chuckled. After learning about Dario possibly or rather most likely being an Orlando, I wanted to tell Christian the truth. The last thing I needed was to cause a scene at dinner.
âGood, youâre scaring me,â Christian spoke relieved. âSo what is it, what do you want to talk about?â
âDo you want some privacy?â Gina asked, but before she could get up from her chair I pulled her back down and shook my head. âYouâre like part of the family nowadays, so you might as well stay.â
âOh, okay.â Gia mumbled.
âSo remember I told you I accidentally flirted with someone?â I began the conversation. âWhat are you getting at?â Christian shrugged his shoulders and focused his attention elsewhere.
âYeah, before we go to that dinner with the Orlandoâs tomorrow, I have to tell you something.â I spoke with an innocent look on my face. Maybe I was overreacting, maybe he wouldnât get angry.
âThat guy I flirted with, Iâm pretty sure his name is Dario Orlando,â I spoke with closed eyes, and waited. for him to yell at me-except he never did.
âHow do you know itâs him?â Christian calmly asked. That was it? He wasnât angry? âI googled him,â
I spoke flustered.
âAh, you googled him.â Christian chuckled. âFunny, and did he know you?â
âI think so yes, I told him my name was Serena Alfonzo and then he had this weird smirk on his face and spoke about faith, so yes, I told him as I prepared myself for another scolding, but also that one never came. âDid he tried to hit on you?â Christian asked.
âYes, but I told him I have a fiancé and a baby!â I quickly spoke. âItâs okay Serena, donât worry about it.â
âOkay?â I questioned. âYes, itâs not the end of the universe. Itâs fine-thanks for giving me a heads up though.â
âOkay, cool.â I smiled back, but behind that smile, I had some thoughts. He was either pissed and trying his hardest to hide it because Gina was at the table, or he had really changed as a person and did not mind.
âSerena?â Beau called out and popped his head from behind the wall. âBeau, youâre hereâ¦again!â
Christian gave him a backhanded comment and walked over to hug him.
The two were extremely awkward and it was mainly due to the both of them having the same yet different personalities. Beau was one of a kind and nothing like my brothers, Marcello and Emilio and Luke.
Beau was on the quiet side, mysterious, and truly only spoke when spoken to-unlike my brothers and even Christian who would often gave their unwanted opinions. âHey.â Gina greeted him while he gave her a nod back.
âYou know, from all the Alfonzoâs youâre definitely my favorite. Christian mentioned. âAfter Serena, of course.â
âUh, thanks?â Beau spoke and gave me a look while I shrugged my shoulders and made a mental note to never ask him to be nice again. And they said I was the bad actress. âYouâre my favorite Lamberti,â Beau told him.
âYou donât have much choice, Gio doesnât like anyone and Enzo tried to have your twin killed. Now letâs go and see your niece so you can tell Serena how much she looks like me.â He slammed his arm around his shoulders before he led Beau upstairs and left me behind. âGina, why am I not hearing your footsteps?â He yelled out.
âComing!â Gina yelled back and stood up in a hurry to follow him.
Just as I was about to follow her, I heard a knock on the door and made my way to the hallway as I patiently waited. I had learned from my past mistake and rarely opened doors anymore. It was not necessary when there was someone hired to do that for us.
âSerena!â I heard Danielaâs voice and took a deep breath before the door had fully opened. âSerena, we missed you today-so we came and visit you.â Maddie pulled me into a hug.
âCome on, move so I can hug her,â Karina spoke and pushed Maddie aside. âItâs not even your family!â She snarled back. Maddie and Marcello werenât married yet, so technically she wasnât either.
âAre we bothering you?â Daniela asked. âIt looks like you donât want us here.â
âNo, no-thatâs not it.â I lied. Yes, they were bothering me.
âItâs just that uhâ¦â I got lost in my words and tried to make up a good excuse. I canceled with them for at reason, I couldnât take it anymore. I missed my other friends.
âSerena, where are you?â Christian called out for me. The girlsâ eyes went big as they almost pushed me aside so they could make their way inside.
âHey, Christian!â Karina greeted him a bit too excited and touched his arm. All I was wondering was why a married woman was touching my man.
âHey, brother-in-law!â Maddie smirked at Karina and pulled him into a hug while Christian seemed extremely repulsed. âGuys, let go of him-heâs not a doll,â Daniela spoke. Christian chuckled and shifted his attention onto me.
âSiena is asleep right now. I have to go, will you be okay?â Christian grabbed my shoulders and ignored the looks the other girls gave us. âAre you sure you donât want me to take her?â
âYes, go and do whatever you have to do. Iâll be fine!â I told him and looked back at the girls. âI have more than enough company, Iâll survive.â
âRight.â Christian chuckled and ruffled his hand through my hair. âOkay, no kiss?â I pouted as he looked back at the girls. âYou guys have fun.â He spoke and ignored my existence before he walked out the door.
âBye, Serena.â Gina smiled at me and followed after him, while all the girls eyed her until the very last second.
âIs that his assistant?â Daniela asked while I gave her a nod in return. âSheâs a bit too pretty to be an assistant, Daniela told me to find Rubén an ugly assistant Karina gave her unwanted opinion.
âChris is so hot and cold. Heâs like a can of coke.â She gushed while Maddie gave her a punch against her shoulder. âYouâre a married woman, behave!â
âLetâs go to the living room so we can talk!â Daniela suggested and walked in further as if she owned the place. These girls were really getting on my last nerves.
âYou have really good interior taste, wow.â Karina who had never been here before spoke. âThanks, but itâs not me-itâs Christian.â
âAs expected!â She clasped her hands. âYoung, rich with a good taste and handsome.â
Right at that moment. Beau walked down the stairs and the girls focused on their next victim. âHi?â
Beau spoke confused. He hated people just as much as I did. We had that in common.
âYouâre getting hotter by the day.â Daniela smiled and pulled him into a hug while he had a confused look on his face. âWhat is that comment and why are you hugging me? Do I know you?â He boldly asked..
I covered my mouth and looked down as a giggle escaped from my lips. Beau was so unintentionally rude sometimes, but sometimes it was satisfying. Daniela scoffed and brushed her hair to the side. âDaniela Sala, Isobelâs cousin? Vinceâs friend? We met a few times?â
âAh, Isobel-you guys are alike.â Beau nodded his head while the two other girls giggled. âAlike?â
Daniela scoffed.
âWhatâs wrong, donât you like your cousin?â Beau chuckled. âDo you?â Daniela asked. Beau looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. âShe tried to kill my sister and my niece, whatâs there to like?â
He smiled and walked past her.
Poor Daniela felt offended, but I knew my brother so I knew that the comparison to Isobel was a compliment. He meant that Daniela was bold, shameless, and outspoken and that was true.
âSo Beau, are you currently seeing anyone?â Maddie asked and joined him on the couch âYouâre my brotherâs fiancée, donât you think youâre going to far?â Beau frowned his eyebrow âW-what, no!â Maddie exclaimed, while this time Daniela was laughing. âI was just asking because you know-weâre siblings and all.â
âI donât even see my brothers as my siblings so thatâs a very bold statement.â Beau sighed while I facepalmed. âBut, Iâll let you be my sister if you want to. Yeah, okay, whatever.â He shrugged after seeing my reaction.
âSo are you single?â Karina was determined to get out of him. âBecause we heard youâre dating Isobel Sala.â
âWho said that?â Beau laughed. âI donât know, just people, Daniela answered.
âWhat people?â
Daniela had a flustered look on her face and shrugged her shoulders. âJust people from around.â
âWhat people from around?â He continued. âPeople in our circle.â Daniela rolled her eyes, and was ready to let the conversation go-but Beau wasnât. âWhat people in your circle?â He chuckled.
âBeau, come on!â I laughed at his typical behavior. I still hadnât figured out if he had it from Matteo, Lita, or himself.
âI saw the two of you leave the hospital together.â Daniela finally confessed.
âSo not just people, but you,â Beau mumbled. âAnyway, weâre not together-but thanks for your concern.â
âGood, because that would be very degrading to Lucio and your dad after everything sheâs put us through. The only thing my grandpa let her keep is the Sala name. Daniela smirked. It seemed like degrading her own cousin was her favorite thing to do.
âAnd now we have to move on to the next subject,â Daniela smirked and turned her head towards me. âI heard you, Lucio and Christian are having dinner with the Orlandoâs tomorrow.â
âWow, you guys are moving like tabloids.â I gulped at her words. It hadnât even been a whole day yet.
âOf course we do, I came here right away because Dario Orlando has been telling everyone that youâre extremely loyal to Christian,â Daniela told me and turned her phone to show me a text. âMy friend told me, so we came here to get the story!â
âYou girls are like a bunch of ants, you move really fast and come in large portions,â Beau commented while Daniela rolled her eyes.
âI heard heâs extremely handsome and gives Christian a run for his money, literally. Did you really told him off?â Karina asked.
âI guess?â I spoke confused. It wasnât even a big deal, I did what every single person who had a partner was supposed to do, and rejected him.
âNo one says no to him, I think youâre the first.â Maddie giggled. âApparently he always gets what he wants.
âYes, Christian really hates him-so he definitely wonât let him get away with this,â Karina added.
âNeither will I, she has a ring around her finger,â Beau spoke.
The three girlsâ eyes immediately moved to my ring as they all gasped. âThat ring is even bigger than the last one, look at that!â Maddie pouted and touched my ring while the other girls did the same.
The only thing I could think about was Christian. His reaction mustâve been so dry because he already heard everything.
I knew Christian was overprotective and wouldnât let this go, that was out of character and nothing like him.
I did not know what he had planned, but one thing was for sure. I was not looking forward to tomorrowâs dinner.
Behind that calm act of his, there was a lot of unfinished business.
