Chapter 118
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âWeâre getting my stuff, and then weâre getting the hell out of there,â I told Luca. It was my first time back at the mansion, and I had mixed feelings.
Christianâs words hurt me a lot, and I couldnât stop thinking about them. He did not only called us dirty Alfonzoâs, but he also had the nerve to say Siena wasnât one of us.
âI understand.â Luca spoke. For some reason, he was reticent, which was only adding to my nerves.
âI thought he wouldnât be home, but I think he is.â He sighed.
âI honestly donât care. I have nothing to say to him.â I shrugged. Even Luca was surprised after hearing about Christianâs words and could not find it in his heart to defend him. âIâm on your side.
Please donât forget that He reminded me for the tenth time. âGreat, letâs go-Iâm ready.â
If I hadnât heard about Christianâs shocking words. I wouldâve taken Siena with me so he could at least see her-but he put me in a situation where I couldnât. I was afraid to let her alone with him when I couldnât even defend myself.
The entire estate was empty, which I had no problem with. The last thing I needed was for everyone to stare at me. âIt seems like I have to use you one last time.â I spoke to the key as I unlocked the door.
âAll I have to do is grab my stuff and get out of here,â I told Luca as we walked through the door, but the moment we took our first step Christian walked towards us. âNo,â Luca spoke as he covered his body in front of me to protect me.
âShe doesnât want to talk to you. All she wants to do is to grab her stuff and leave, donât make it harder for yourself.â Luca told him. âSerena, please donât do this.â Christian pleaded, but all I could think about were his words. Dirty Alfonzoâs âLuca, let him be, I spoke as I walked past him and made my way upstairs to grab my stuff.
Christian followed behind, but he did not lay a finger on me. The message of me not wanting him to touch me was very clear.
I pulled out one of my suitcases and pushed in everything I could. I was not in the mood to fold things. and I did not want to be in the same room as him. âSo youâre not going to say anything?â
Christian asked.
The sadness in his voice made me miserable, and I had to remind myself why I hated him. I could not feel sorry for him. I couldnât.
I cursed under my breath and kicked my feet against the suitcase as I used all my strength to close it. âLet me help you,â Christian offered, but I pushed him away.
âDonât touch me, please.â I spoke. Christian listened and took a step back. âSerena, donât be like this.â He sighed. âLuca!â I called out before I heard loud footsteps on the stairs. âWhat is it-what is he doing?â Luca asked in a hurry, âHeâs breathing.â I spoke as I rolled my eyes and rolled the large suitcase towards Luca. âIâll put it in the car.â Luca offered and gave Christian one last glare. âCheater.â He muttered under his breath.
âSerena, if you need your space, thatâs fine-but can we at least work something out for Siena?â
Christian had the nerve to ask. My blood was boiling, and it made me pissed. I couldnât get to him, so my poor suitcase and my poor clothes had to live off my anger.
âAre you sure you care about her? Or do you see her as a dirty Alfonzo?â I asked and stormed to the bathroom. âDirty Alfonzo? What are you even talking about!â Christian lied again. That was the worst thing, his lies.
âSo you did not say you would kill all the dirty Alfonzoâs or that Siena is yours and that sheâs a Lamberti?â I finally lost my patience. The original plan was to ignore him, but I couldnât do it. I needed answers.
I turned around to read the expression on his face, and he seemed devastated. Although I had a pretty good idea Dario was telling the truth, I was holding on to the little bit of hope that he wasnât-
but the look on his face said enough.
âOr letâs talk about what kind of hypocrite you are. I canât beat up Gina, but you can beat up Dario, who has done nothing?â
âOf course, Dario. Christian sighed. âSerena, listen-heâs trying to ruin me, and heâs trying to come between usââ
âI know!â I spoke, annoyed. âBut you canât blame Dario for cheating, and you also canât blame him for calling us dirty Alfonzoâs!â
âSerena, I didnât mean it.â Christian stepped forward as I continued to throw everything into a bag.
âThatâs funny-It came to my attention that you say a lot of things you donât mean!â
âYes, and Iâm sorry!â Christian apologized. âOne day, youâll have to pay for these consequences!â I told him, âYouâre not taking Siena away from me.â
âWhat? What are you talking about? I would never do that!â Christian defended himself, but it was not just Christian. âAnd your family?â I asked. Christian took a deep breath and lowered his head as he was probably thinking of words to say.
âMy dad will bring her over once a week so that you can see her for a few hours. Not here, but at your familyâs house-I donât want you to be alone with her. And donât ask me not to do this. You have brought this upon yourself.â I spoke as I tried my hardest not to meet his eyes. I did not want to do this, but his words scared me. I would not let him steal my baby away from me.
âAre you serious? Are you sick?â Christian asked. Luca leaning against the door with the same confused look on his face. âIâm serious. You wonât be alone with her anymore. You have to gain my trust.â
âAnd is this your decision or your familyâs decision!â Christian yelled as he took a few steps forward.
The dark look on his face made me step back, and he appeared to be seconds away from attacking me. âI told you I loved you, I still love you-but this time youâre pushing it!â
âIâm pushing it?â I asked. âYouâre the one who threatened to kill all Alfonzoâs, and you said Siena is yours, but Iâm pushing it?â
âYes, youâre pushing it.â Christian nodded his head and slammed his hand against the wall as he cornered me. âI helped you out of that low-class neighborhood. I helped you out of two shitty jobs, I was willing to give you everything-but in the end, we both betrayed each other.â
His words cut deeper than a knife. They were right when they said to listen to people when they were angry because thatâs when the real truth comes out. âIf you were willing to give me everything, then why did you cheat on me?â I asked him. I knew Christianâs heart and knew he would never lay his hands on a woman, but the way he switched scared me.
âSerena, please donât do this. I need you, and I love you and Siena. Just come back home, and we can work this out.â Christian softened his eyes and moved his hand to my cheek. âSince when have we ever let our families come between the two of us?â
you think I can come back here and sleep with one eye open after what you said about the Alfonzoâs?â I chuckled in disbelief. âJust so you know, I was willing to forgive you, you know that-but all you do is lie, and I canât take it anymore.â
âWhat I said was stupid, and I didnât mean it. Do you know why I said those words?â Christian spoke. âI said those words because Dario told me I should worry about you not letting me see Siena-
âWhich makes it even worse! Do you hear yourself?â I wondered. âDonât you get tired of your excuses?â
âI didnât mean it, I donât know why I said it, and Iâm sorry-but I didnât mean it,â Christian spoke defeated. âJust donât take her away from me. You canât take her away from me, please.â
âYouâre stealing my sentence. Iâm supposed to say that I sighed as I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. âSerena, did you decide to let me see Siena once a week-or did your family push you to do that?â Christian asked. âBecause I know the woman I love is not that kind of person.â
âSiena needs her dad, and she does not deserve to suffer because of my mistake, so please think this through Christian requested. âShe needs both of us.â
âBut your words. I reminded him. If anyone was willing to fight for Siena to be with both of her parents, it wouldâve been me, but the childhood trauma of hearing someone would take something away from me had scared me. I heard it so many times before. I couldnât even keep count.
Iwill take away your privileges.
I will take away your happiness.
I will take away all the things you care about.
I heard them all before, and they had yet to prove me wrong, so the thought of someone taking away my daughter, regardless of it being Christian, scared me. âSerena, I love you, and I know you still love me.â Christian desperately looked at me and waited for an answer.
âI hate you,â I lied and looked the other way. Who was I trying to convince? âYou donât hate me. Your family.
hates me.â
âIt doesnât matter. You donât love me. You ran to protect Gina while I was literally there. You donât love me -you love the idea of me.â I told him. It was something he had to hear.
âHave you seen her face? Did you want her to press charges?â Christian asked. âI helped her, and I silenced her, and I did it for you. Yes, I made mistakes, but Iâm trying to do better, and everything I do, I do it for you!â Christian spoke as he grabbed my shoulders. âAnd now Iâm asking you to find a solution, or Iâll find one myself.â
âW-what?â I stuttered. âSerena, I love you more than I love myself-but if you really think Iâm going to sit back and patiently wait to see my only daughter, my life, under supervision once a week, then you better think again!â
There it was again.
It didnât take long before my anger took over, and my fist connected with Christian jaw. âOuch.â Luca gasped and stepped forward while he waited for Christianâs reaction. âSo you love me so much, youâre forcing me to either get back together, or itâs war? Is that it?â
Christian touched his cheek and gave me a startled look. âFirst, you disrespect the neighborhood I used to live in, then my job as a stripper, then my job at the factory, and now youâre threatening me?â
âI never disrespected you, and I never threatened youâ Christian shook his head. âYes, you did-and if 1 were you, I would look up the definition of love.â I spat before I roughly pushed him aside. âLuca, letâs go.â
âYes!â Luca replied and carried my other suitcase while Christian glared at him. âMake sure sheâs safe,â Christian told him as I scoffed and stormed down the stairs.
Make sure sheâs safe? After he threatened me, he wanted to make sure I was safe?
âAre you okay?â Luca asked me and opened the car door. âYou are crying.â He sighed.
âI didnât notice.â I smiled as I wiped my tears. My life was so perfect, and things were never supposed to be this way. I was supposed to get married, and we were supposed to raise our daughter together.
âSo what are you crying about?â Luca stared at me.
âIâm crying because I canât stop loving him.â
