Chapter 130
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âGood morning!â I sang and forced a bright smile on my face as I joined the others at the dining table. Almost the entire family, including Luis, was present, and it was a long time since that happened.
âGood morning. Do you have plans for today?â Luke immediately asked after seeing I was dressed from head to toe. âJust going out.â I smiled as I pulled out Sienaâs chair and sat her down.
There was no way in hell that I was going to tell them about my meeting with Christian. Everything was going perfectly fine, and I did not want to ruin it. âAre you okay, Beau?â I asked my brother, who had a smile on his face. Seeing him smile was still a weird concept.
âFine,â Beau smiled. Luis was in his own world and made his homework. âIs that for today, Luis?â I wondered, but he shook his head. âItâs for next week!â
âNext week!â I gasped. âThatâs very good of you!â
It was quiet, and no one interacted with each other. Luke and Lita were eating their food, Luis was doing. his homework, and Carmen was on her phone. What a nice family get together. âCan I talk to you?â Beau asked. âSure.â I nodded.
âMom, can you watch Siena for me?â I asked. She frowned her eyebrows and nodded her head without. making any eye contact. The same woman who was supposedly so desperate to get me back was already. tired of me. Even though I still tried to adjust, Beau and I were always different from our other siblings) and shared different views on many things because we did not grow up with them.
I followed Beau to the living room and patiently waited for him to make the first step. He was going to apologize.
âSerena, Iâm sorry.â Beau began. âI took out my anger on you, and it was wrong. Youâre the last person I want to argue with-â
âI know.â I nodded. âWe mostly have each other, so we shouldnât argue. If somethingâs bothering you, I want to know so I can fix it.â
Beau pulled me into a hug. âItâs not you.â
âAlso, when you see Christian today-I want you to thank him for everything.â
âSee, who?â I asked, startled, as I was trying to think of ways to deny his accusations. âIâm your twin. I know what youâre up to.â Beau smirked. He wasnât angry. He remained highly calm, which was surprising. considering he hated him.
âIâm sorry, I wanted to tell you, but our families are obviously not getting along. I-
âJust tell him Iâm grateful.â Beau stopped me from talking. âTell him that I still want to kill him, but Iâm grateful.â
âFor?â I frowned. âHe didnât tell you?â Beau asked. âChristian got Isobelâs grandfather so far to turn everything back around.â
âThe news should be official tomorrow.â
âWhat?â I gasped. âAre you serious!â I smiled as I patiently waited for him to tell me it was all a joke.
Christian really did the impossible, and I didnât even want to think about how much he did to get that far. âWhy would he do something like that?â
âFor you, of course, stupidâ Beau chuckled. âOh right, he wants to get back together again.â I suddenly remembered. The gesture was nice, but it still wasnât enough. Right?
âAnd what do you want?â Beau sighed. His reaction was different from what I expected. âYou know, youâre the first person to ask me that.â
âAll I want is for us to get along, and Iâm afraid that wonât happen if we do get back together,â I admitted. âI know mom and dad are annoying, but I donât want to lose them or anyone else in the family.â
âI know,â Beau spoke. âI still think Christian deserves a beating, but no relationship is perfect. There will always be arguments.â
âI thought you hated him?â I frowned, but Beau shook his head. âI donât hate him, I just think heâs an idiot, but I also think mom and dad need to stop controlling our lives. Dad really had me thinking he was some devil while he literally walked through fire to see you happy.â Beau sighed.
âI know!â I spoke. âI like it here, but I also feel like a prisoner sometimes.â
âAbout that,â Beau whispered as he broke our eye contact. For some reason, I knew what was about to come. âIâve stayed here for you, but itâs time to live my own life, and I canât do this anymore-Iâm sorry.â
âThatâs funny, me neither.â I laughed. âItâs finally time for me to use that âcompensationâ money.â
âGood.â Beau sighed, relieved. âAnd then thereâs this other thing.â
âGod, youâre scaring me-just tell me what it is,â I spoke as he looked at me with a nervous smile on his face.
âI proposed to Isobel.â
âWhat?â 1 exclaimed. âExcuse me. You did what? The two of you havenât even been together for that long!â
Well, we were twins.
âSheâs pregnant.â Beau sighed. âOh, myâ¦okay?â I muttered as I tried to observe his expression. I didnât know if I had to congratulate him. âYou guys just got together. Havenât you learned anything from me, little brother?â
âNo.â Beau chuckled. âI suppose I havenât, but I love her, and Iâm happy. Iâm supposed to hate Christian, but he saved me because I had a difficult decision to makeââ
âYou had to choose between her and me?â I realized. âI wouldâve followed you, no matter how desperate I am for a family. You should know that.â I told Beau. âI love all of my siblings, and as crazy as it sounds, I love mom and dad-but Iâd choose you over the Alfonzoâs any day, especially after how they let me handle the Christian situation.â
âI know now,â Beau smiled. âThatâs why I canât get angry and you should at least let him see Siena, and I know I said some stupid stuff and said he shouldnât be seeing her at all, but Siena has nothing to do with this.â
My mind went to Christian, who decided to be my knight in shining armor at the right time. We werenât even together anymore, but he was still taking care of me. âNo one knows, only you and Carmen,â 1 confessed. âDad was already angry that I took Siena to the Lambertiâs by myself, so just imagine.â
âImagine me breaking the news about Isobelâs pregnancy to the family while she would still be disowned.â Beau laughed along. âWeâre both a mess.â
âThatâs why we have to stick together,â I told him and pulled him into a hug. âI donât ever want to think that you hate me, and I donât ever want to argue with you ever again.â
âMe neither.â Beau agreed. âPlease tell Christian that Iâm still going to give him a punch when I see him, so he should prepare himself-but Iâm also grateful.â
âYouâre so strange.â
âAnyway, I should go.â
It seemed weird, but I was really excited to see Christian and to tell him how grateful I was, but also really happy to spend time with him. It seemed crazy because I couldnât figure out whether I was really going for Siena or myself.
Beau was right. Every relationship had their up and downs and arguments, but not every couple cheated. on each other, which made the situation more complicated, and that was why I was so unsure of what to do.
âYou go and enjoy your day.â Beau smiled. âI am going to visit Isobel, so.â
The smile on Beauâs face warmed my heart, and seeing him happy made me happy. All I wanted was for everyone to be satisfied, but for some reason, that didnât seem easy.
After I said my goodbyes to Beau, I wasted no time and left the house with Siena. I was in no mood to deal with my grumpy family, but I knew it wouldnât last for long. After they would hear about Isobel tomorrow, they would learn to accept her, just like they would learn to accept the pregnancy.
A happy feeling went through my body as I entered the gates of the mansion I once used to live in. I didnât know whether it was because I looked forward to seeing Christian or because it felt like home.
He was standing at the door and had a welcoming smile on his face. He appeared to be in a good mood today.
Christian rushed over to the backseat, and I quickly realized that the smile on his face wasnât meant for me. âIs she asleep? Why is she being boring?â Christian commented as he unbuckled the car seat.
âSheâs not boring. Sheâs a baby.â I laughed. âAnd put her down. We have to talk.â
Christian followed my instructions and gave me a doubtful look. âYouâre not in trouble. Itâs about that thing you did for my brother.â
âOh, so he knows?â Christian smiled with a proud look on his face, as if he was waiting for me to give him a compliment. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck.
âThank you so much!â I whispered as I pulled him into a tight embrace. âI donât think youâve realized what youâve done.â
âI know,â Christian laughed. âCome on, letâs go inside so you can praise me even more.â He spoke and grabbed Siena.
âHow did you even do something like that?â I wondered. âThatâs easy.â Christian sighed. âI signed away the rights to Sienaâs hotel, but itâs just until sheâs of age.â
âW-what?â I stuttered. âI know how much that meant to you.â
The hotel was all he could talk about, and he put so much time and energy into making sure things were perfect. The lengths he was willing to go to restore our relationship were beyond, and I gave him nothing in return âIt meant a lot to me, but I can always buy her another one-but I canât find someone like you, Serenaâ Christian smiled. âHere we go again.â I sighed as he grabbed my hand and searched for eye contact.
âI donât want you to feel like you owe me anything because you donât-but I want you to know that I helped Beau because I wanted to help him,â Christian spoke. That was typically Christian, always trying to help everyone.
I looked into his eyes and rested my hands on either side of his cheeks. It felt like I didnât had any control over my hands, and I did not know what I was doing. Christian stared right back into my eyes and leaned in closer until he rested his forehead against mine.
The voice in my head told me to pull away, but I couldnât. â1-1 donât know how to thank you,â I whispered. as I caressed his cheeks, âHow about a kiss?â Christian asked, politely. I laughed at his unexpected question as my heart melted at the soft look on his face. He was trying so hard, but we couldnât fall back into the same pattern.
âA kiss?â
