Chapter 146
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âWhatâs going on here?â I whispered to myself as My eyes shifted to the moving vans. I was curious and wondered who was moving in because it clearly wasnât me. What was Christian doing?
âExcuse me,â I spoke to one of the men and patted him on his shoulder.
âWhoâs moving in?â I asked as I stared at the box in his hands. âNo one.â He smiled. âWeâre renovating a room.â
âOh, really?â I spoke, surprised. âThanks.â
It seemed like Christian did not want to waste any more time and wanted me to move back as soon as possible. I smiled at the idea of Christian being desperate and made my way inside. âChrissie!â I called out He hated that nickname, and cringed whenever his nieces used to call him that, but I thought it was cute.
âSerena!â Christian called out and quickly found his way towards me. I opened my arms to pull him into a hug, but he walked past me with a confused and disappointed look on his face. âWhere is my baby?â He asked.
âSheâs with Carmen.â I rolled my eyes. âCan I also get some of your attention? Or am I not as important as Siena?â I chuckled. Christian turned around and grabbed my hands. âItâs not that I donât want to see you. Please donât misunderstand!â He spoke, ashamed, and pulled me into a hug.
âI love you, and I love Siena.â
âThanksâ I smiled. âI love you, and I love Siena.â
âIt feels like Iâm watching a bad romance movie,â Marc interrupted us. I expected Christian to pull away like he usually did after his friends made fun of him, but he didnât and pulled me in closer. âIf you canât take it, you should find someone yourself,â Christian spoke, âYour problem shouldnât be our problem.â
Marc chuckled and walked away without saying another word other than mumbling that we looked cute. âMarc has always stood behind us, hasnât he?â I commented. He was the only person on Christianâs side. who I could genuinely trust because I knew he would never turn on me. Even Johnny turned on me at some point. âHeâs more loyal to you than he is to me,â Christian spoke. âBut I donât mind. Itâs a good thing.
âIt is.â I agreed. âBut why are you so tensed? Is it because you donât want to talk about Dario and your uncle?â I asked. He seemed nervous from the very second he walked out, and I was wondering what it mightâve been. âNo, itâs not Dario or my uncle.â
âOkay?â I laughed. âThen what is it? Is it because of Siena? Because I can bring her over later if you want to âSerena, I have to tell you something.â Christian sighed. Sentences like these never worked out well, and the last time our conversation started like that, I was in for a real surprise.
âOkay?â I forced a smile onto my face. âWhatever it is, you can tell me.â
âItâs about Gina,â Christian spoke. âAs you know, I moved her into an apartment. Please donât hate my dad -but he cares about her well-being, so heâs making me send her money-â
âThatâs it?â I gasped, relieved. âYes?â Christian frowned. I had to admit, I wasnât that happy, and was pretty sure Gina could find another job, but I wasnât the worst person in the world and knew how it felt to have nowhere to go. Her husband wanted a divorce, and her family didnât want her.
âDonât you ever do that again!â I yelled at Christian. âI was so nervous. You canât start sentences like that-
are you crazy?â
Christian still seemed confused and had probably prepared himself for a different kind of reaction, but I honestly couldnât care less. âI-Iâm sorry, itâs just that I didnât expect you to react like this.â
âAt least youâre telling me the truth.â I shrugged. âI do have one request. I donât want you to go near her- you can transfer it, or you can order someone else to do it.â
âI understand.â Christian nodded. âAnd I donât want to disrespect you, and I understand how you feel, so I asked Beau to do it-if thatâs okay with you.â
âYes, sure-I donât care.â I smiled. My week was going well, and nothing could ruin it. âYouâre in a really good mood today. It scares me.â Christian chuckled. âBut since youâre in a good mood, how do feel about having another baby-â
âNo.â I cut him off. âIâm having a good day, but letâs not push it.â
you No one could change my mind. I had Siena, and that was more than enough. I never planned on having any children in the first place.
âOkay, at least I tried.â Christian chuckled and slammed his arm around my shoulder. âSo when are you moving back in? The room should be ready in a few hours.â
âReally?â I played along. âThe more you ask, the more Iâm thinking about not moving back home.â I teased him, but I had already made up my mind. âI promise you to move in by the end of the week.â
âThatâs good, I wonât bother you anymore,â Christian smiled.
âI think your brother is enjoying himself. He doesnât even care about you anymore.â Christian spoke as he pulled me towards the living room.
Beau was having a conversation with Marc, and the two seemed to be getting along well. âI think this is a good thing. I love Marcello and Emilio, but they suck at being brothers to Beau, so Iâm glad he has you now.â
âI also feel bad for the twins,â Christian spoke. âIâm serious. Carmen and Luke are more than welcome to stay here. The house is big enough-â
âDonât worry, I wonât leave this time.â I teased him. âYou donât have to worry about anything, as long as behave-Iâll never leave your side ever again.â
you The look on Christianâs face softened, and he nodded his head. âThatâs nice to know. I donât want you to go anywhere.â He smiled. âLetâs go.â
âBeau, youâre not even paying any attention to me!â I pouted as I walked over to hug him. âIâm sorry, but itâs just that we see each other every day.â Beau explained. It was just a joke, but sometimes it felt impossible to joke around with him.
âI told Beau everything he needs to know. I have a plan.â Christian announced and held my hand to pull me to the sofa. âI need you for that plan.â
âYes, I know-Iâll call Dario tomorrow and tell him that our deal is over-
âNo,â Christian spoke. âI want you to do the opposite. I want you to continue whatever the two of you had planned for tomorrow.â
Christianâs words made me feel nervous because I didnât want to go Darioâs house anymore, but Christian was finally involving me and that was what I wanted, right? I wanted him to involve me, and I was desperate to find out the truth about the vault, so why was I complaining?
âI donât think Dario will be that fond of her anymore, I mean the two of you are back together,â Marc spoke, but I could tell that Christian had a plan. He always had a plan.
you âI have a plan for that,â Christian spoke as expected. âDario is clearly not stupid, so I want you to say that broke into his office and that you did it for me. I need you to blame it all on me.â Christian explained.
âYou have to tell him that we got back together for Siena, and you have to gain his trust again.â
âThatâs if you want to, of course,â Beau spoke and glared at Christian. âYes, thatâs if you want to,â
Christian added.
âYes, Iâll help you!â I immediately spoke. I was excited to help out for once, and wouldnât drop this opportunity.
âSo do I just up ask him about the vault?â I wondered, but Christian shook his head. âNo, if my uncle is truly behind that door, heâll let him kill you,â Christian spoke. He obviously wasnât very good at recruiting people because his words scared the crap out of me.
âYou canât ask him anything. He should be the one to open up.â Marc explained. âBut for some strange reason, youâre very popular with men, so I donât think thatâll be too much of an issue.â
âDo you hear that, Christian?â I teased him as I laughed at the jealous look on his face. âMarcâs right.â Christian agreed. âEveryone seems to like you for some reason.â
I was also curious because it didnât use to be like that in the past, but then I figured that all of these people had one thing in common, they were loaded. I did not want to praise myself, but I was different from the type of girls they grew up with. It wasnât that they were into me, they were just curious about me.
âSo no one knows about your uncle?â I asked. âNo, they donât.â Christian confirmed.
âMy uncle is clearly trying to break me apart. I donât know what happened or how heâs still alive, but if Dario is his son, he probably thinks he has the most right to be the heir which makes a lot of sense.â
Those words sounded sad because he always praised his uncle for his kind heart, but after the old lady called the man with the mask a monster, even I got confused by Christianâs words. That did not seem like a good man with a good heart. âAll I have to do is to put them in a trap so I canâ¦get rid of my uncle,â Christian spoke, but this time I knew very well what he meant by that.
âIs that why you kept your family and Johnny and Luca out of this?â I asked. It was probably for the best because I couldnât imagine Johnny and Luca standing behind Christian. The two were always outspoken about how much they missed their father, and they would never forgive him.
âMy uncle was loved,â Christian explained. âA lot had changed after his first wife whispered things into his cars, and he changed, I wasnât even born around that time, but my mom told me.â
âHe ended up divorcing her and remarried. My grandpa eventually removed him as the heir and gave everything to my dad.â Christian explained. âI donât remember much because I was still young, and we were not allowed to mention it.â
âThen how did he die?â Beau asked. It was also something I wanted to know. âHe supposedly gave up his own life for my dad. He pushed him out and got burned alive in the process.â Christian spoke.
It was undeniably a difficult subject, and the situation seemed a bit identical to Christian saving Enzo instead of Vince. âYour dad blamed himself, the same way you blamed yourself for Vince?â Beau asked while Marc and I gave him a look. Beau had no filter and wasnât that good at reading people.
âYes.â Christian gulped. âThatâs all I know. His corpse was apparently so burned that it was unrecognizable.â
âIâm still confused about Dario,â Christian spoke. âI donât know why my uncle would keep his existence a secret or what he was doing at his birthday party-â
âAnd you canât ask your family anything, and you donât want to risk Johnny and Luca reuniting with Dario and your uncle either, so you only have us,â Marc concluded. âBut youâre right. We should keep this from Johnny and Luca while we still can.â
âYou know, I thought maybe dad and grandpa lied to me, but itâs unlikely.â Christian spoke. âYou can say a lot about my grandpa, but he loves all of his children and wouldnât throw him away like that-he cries every single year at his memorial and so does my dad.â
âI donât know what their plans are or when, or if heâs planning to reveal himself.â Christian sighed as he turned to me. âBut I do know one thing. I need you to get him to open up so I can deal with my uncle before he gets the opportunity to reveal himself.â
âIâll do anything for you.â I smiled. âYou know that, so please donât worry. Iâll give you what you want, I promise.â I told Christian. All I wanted was to deal with this mess so we could finally move on with our lives in peace.
I was determined to help Christian and would try my hardest to find out the truth about Dario and his uncle.
I was going to make Dario open that vault.
