Chapter 15
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
Lunaâs words had been eating me up and I was not able to rest. The only positive thing was that my morhad finally disappeared, and I looked a whole less sick.
The one downside was that I was back again, knocking on the door of Christianâs office. After a long thodecided to take up his offer and do whatever was best for the baby. This situation wasnât about me or mabout giving the baby a the life it deserved.
âThe door is open,â Christian called out in his intimidating tone. I opened the door and walked in. He leathe window and had a cigarette between his lips. âIâll come back later,â I excused myself, and tried my beanything for the babyâs sake.
Christian threw away the cigarette and turned around to face me. Donât bother, this will be quick.â
He sphis way over to his chair.
The look on his face made it obvious this clearly wasnât the right time, so I was willing to come back latecouldâve prepared for the words which left his mouth. âThe babyâ¦I need you to get rid of it,â
Christian spgaze moved anywhere but my eyes.
I felt upset, confused, and hopeless. He did not mean that he could not mean that. This had to be some âHuh?â I asked, confused. Christian took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
âGet rid of the baby.â He spoke word for word. The message was extremely clear and I did not missed a sThese were the words I had expected to hear from his mouth the first time, but he decided to give me fa
Even if I wanted to cry, I couldnât and it was all because I was in too much of a shock to do so.
Christian oand was probably wondering why I hadnât said anything. âYou donât mean that,â I told him as I stared intcould see that he didnât meant that.
For the first time, I could read him well and could tell that this was not what he wanted. Whatever it was him change his mind mustâve been something big.
âGet rid of the baby or disappear, I donât care, I donât want anything to do with it.â He tried his hardest tbut he was clearly failing.
âChristian, whatever happened to taking care of the baby?â
Christian took a deep breath and aggressively shove his papers from the table. My first instincts were to stomach with my hands which I did as I quickly stepped back. âDo you want a check? Iâll give you a checbother me. This is a mistake!â Christian spoke. âThis babyâ¦is a mistake.â
A mistake?
He couldâve said anything about me and I wouldâve cried and taken it, but I would not let him speak thischild, over my dead body. âThe only mistake here is you, the only mistake is me trusting you.â I spat out.Christianâs eyes had softened and he quickly turned the other way. âI donât need your money, I donât neeonly thing Iâm asking from you is to please not turn your back on this baby.â I almost begged him. âAre yBecause if you are thatâs completely fine and we donât even have to talk again, but please, I need you to baby!â
I felt pathetic, and I knew I was being a hypocrite after not only wanting to abort this baby but also tryinChristian away, but things had changed.
Christian remained silent and was unable to speak.
âDo you really want me to get an abortion? Because I will go and get one now. Weâll get it together, letâshim, but before I could do anything else Christian jumped up from the chair and wrapped his hand arounSee, he wasnât serious.
âYou canât!â He spoke as he looked down at his hand which was wrapped around my wrist. I shrugged hout a scoff.
âGive me one good reason why you donât want to be a parent and I will leave you alone because I donâtrealize, but Iâm the one whoâs in real danger!â I told him. âDespite this wholeâ¦thing you guys got going to move in with you, I was willing to take that risk!â
âChristian, you mightâve pushed away a lot of people but you wonât get rid of me this easily, not when I donât mean any this.â
âItâs becauseâ¦Iâm not ready to be a dad.â He spoke. His words made my blood boil. Not ready?
âDo you think Iâm ready to be a mom? Because Iâm not but you have six more months to learn and so dorea-â
âI donât want anything to with you or the baby, I donât even know if the baby is mine and I never asked fsome stripping whore, now get out!â Christian yelled out.
My body was frozen and my tears were close to falling as every bit of hope I had left had completely shahe would take care of me and the baby, but he broke his promise.
The look on his face told me he didnât meant it, but his words were something which I could never forgivI had enough of it and made my way to the door, so I could leaveâbut not before I gave him a small remoriginal words. âYou said you wouldnât bail on me, you promised,â I spoke defeated.
âSerenaâ¦â He whispâWhat?â.
ââ¦Donât forget to close the door on your way out.â
I smacked the door shut and broke down crying. I did not care about anything or anyone, because I wouback here. I was allowed to cry and everyone was allowed to see it.
âDid he really knock you up?â I recognized Enzoâs voice and quickly turned around. Okay, maybe not eveI attempted to wipe away my tears, but they just wouldnât stop falling down.
âAre you okay, should I go and talk to him?â Enzo offered his help while he placed his hands on my shouhead and pushed him away. I was absolutely not in the mood to deal with any of the Lamberti brothers, I let out a sigh and ignored Enzoâs existence as I walked past him and made my way through the hallwaycalled out.
I kept on walking and the only thing I could think about was the fastest way to clear my locker, so I couldof this building.
âIâm sorry.â I managed to get out when I accidentally bumped into someone. I raised my head and madewith Lucio. Just when I thought it couldnât get any worse. He had a pitiful look on his face, and that was eto know that he knew exactly what the issue was.
âYou know, donât you?â
Lucio gave me a nod and pulled me into his office. I broke down crying and flew in his arms while he triedown, but it wasnât working. All I could do was rant about Christianâs sudden change in behavior.
âAnd then he told me to get an abortion and then he told me not toâ and then he called me a strippingended my rant while my eyes were full of tears.
âSerena sweetheart, even I canât do anything to change his mind.â Lucio sighed.
I was surprised by his choice of words and quickly pulled away. âSo you agree with him?â
Lucio scratched the back of his head and shrugged his shoulders.
âI definitely do not consider you to be a stripping whore, that one was unprovoked, but think about it.â LâYou donât want to give up your baby, he doesnât want to raise the babyâso just accept the check and ryour own.â
Lucio didnât even let out a stutter and I was pissed. There was no way he couldâve been serious.
This musâThat child is your grandchild,â I reminded him, but Lucio wouldnât budge. He seemed unbothered by mEven Christian showed me more sympathy than that. Was this really the same man I was supposed to truâYouâre a smart girl so I think you might have an idea about what kind of business we are in. Just accept take care of the baby, you will not have to work again, not a single da-â
âDo you think thatâs my issue, money? Because I donât need any of it or a man by my side, everything Iâmbest interest of the baby!â I cut him off. His words pained my heart and I felt offended.
Yes, money wouldbut this was not about money.
âI donât give a shit about that because I know you would do anything to protect your family.â I told him.âWhat I do care about is that youâre acting as if itâs a crime for me to want the baby to be loved by boththe baby your family too?â
I waited for a reaction, but Lucio was still unbothered and was clearly cracking his brains about whateversentence would be.
âIf this is the way how things are going to be like, then I donât need your help and I sure as hell donât newill provide for my baby.â I spoke.
âAnd whatever bond the two of us had, itâs over so donât try to contact me ever again.â
I was going to raise my baby, with or without a dad.
