Chapter 165
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âGoodâ Christian spoke and pulled away to sit down on the bed. âSo, whatâs the deal with you and Dario?â I wondered. I couldnât stop thinking about him and felt terrible for the way things went.
He betrayed his own dad to help us and it mustâve not been easy for him.
âYou told me all he wanted was a family.â Christian started. âSo I allowed him to become a Lamberti, if he wants to of course.â
âHuh?â I spoke, confused, while I sat down next to Christian. I listened as he told me about everything that happened and how Dario had switched sides. The most unexpected thing had to be Christian inviting Dario to the photoshoot and offering to introduce him to the family..
âSo you think that doing that will make your uncle reveal himself?â I asked. âYes,â Christian spoke.
âDario told me to keep doing what Iâm doing, so that must mean weâre finally heading somewhere.â
âHe also told me that my uncle is after the Lamberti warehouse because he has money know what kind of money, and I donât know how much but-
there I donât âSienaâs funds!â I told Christian, who looked up in surprise. âItâs the money your uncle stole, and your grandpa just couldnât stop talking about those funds-so Iâm pretty convinced itâs the money he put away for Siena.â
I gave him the information about Sienaâs money and a bit more about Darioâs twisted mother. I could not understand how people even compared me to that woman. âSo heâs doing all of this for Sienaâs money?â Christian sighed.
That was right. He would agree with me and realize that his uncle was ridiculous. That man was sick, and if he thought that he could touch Sienaâs money-
âHe can have it,â Christian spoke to my surprise. âW-what?â I gasped with big eyes while Christian had a calm look on his face. âWhat do you mean, he can have it?â I asked, irritated.
âHe can have the money if that means the warehouse with all of our stuff and all our men will at least be safe-then he can have it,â Christian explained. He took a breath and raised my chin with his hands, forcing me to look at him. âYou donât agree with me, do you?â He asked.
He was absolutely right. Of course, I didnât agree with him handing over Sienaâs present from her grandpa. to her greedy uncle. âIf this is about money, I can get Siena other money!â Christian spoke.
âBut now that I know what kind of money weâre talking about, I think itâs for the best to take our distance from it.â
âTake our distance?â 1 frowned. As far as I was concerned, his uncle Berto was the one who should take his distance. âSerena, heâs willing to go really far for that money-and now that I know Siena is somehow involved, I just want to get my hands off it!â
âW-what?â I spoke, surprised. âChristian, do you hear yourself?â
âYes,â Christian snapped. âI hear myself, and Iâve seen these kinds of things happen before. What do you think will happen when my uncle finds out all of the money he thinks is his will be going to some baby-â
âYour daughter.â I corrected him. âItâs not some baby, itâs your daughter-and once you give him the money, heâs going to want even more things. Thatâs how people are.â
âSerena,â Christian sighed. âDonât give me that look for putting the warehouse, my menâs safety and our Sienaâs life before some money.â
âIâm not!â I quickly clarified. It was not about the money, but it was about preventing his uncle from coming back to demand more. If he could get the hands on the cash without a single issue, it meant he could also get his hands on the family business.
âItâs about giving Sienaâs whatâs hers,â I told him. âDo you really think your uncle will leave it at just Sienaâs funde? Itâs not putting her life in danger or risking the warehouse-itâs about not being a pussy and fight for whatâs rightfully hers!â
âSerenaâ¦â Christian muttered as he brushed my hair to the side. âWhen did you get like this?â
His words broke my heart into pieces, and I felt like fading away.
Not him too.
âLike what?â I whispered, fearing for his answer. He connected his hand with mine and stared into my eyes with a pitiful look on his face. âDo you really want me to fight for Sienaâs money?â Christian asked. âI know where youâre coming from, and I know that heâll come back for more, but please think this through.â
âIâll become his puppet if that means I get to keep you and Siena safe.â He continued. âIf it werenât Sienaâs money. I wouldâve fought for it-but I donât know what will happen when he finds out itâs hers, and I can not forgive myself if something happens to our baby or anyone else we love, neither can you.â
âYouâre wrong,â I told him and roughly pulled my hand away from his. âYou should fight for that money just because itâs Sienaâs. How are you going to tell her that daddy let her uncle take her money because he was too weak to fight for her?â
âThatâs not it.â Christian defended himself. âIâm protecting our family.â
âOh, is that so?â I chuckled. âAnd how about letting the girl you cheated on me with staying here and gatekeeping the floor like Iâm the issue?â
âSerena!â Christian warned me. âStop it.â
âYou know what, maybe I should go upstairs and kill her the same way she killed our relationship. I canât. believe you care more about her well-being than your own daughterâs money-â
âShut up!â Christian yelled in my face. âJust shut up!â
I was surprised by his tone and was wondering where he got the confidence from. âShut up?â I spoke, confused. âWho are you telling to shut up? Who do you think I am-are you crazy?â
âSerena, I donât know what came over me. Iâm sorry!â Christian apologized, but I moved away from him instead. âYouâre getting a bit too comfortable with raising your voice at me, but please know your place.â I told him. It wasnât the first time he raised his voice at me, but it would definitely be the last.
I had no issues packing my bags again if this was how it was going to be like.
âIâm sorry.â Christian apologized once again. âI donât know what came over me. Iâm sorry.â
âI donât want to argue.â He spoke while I mimicked his famous sentence at the same time. Donât do it, I told myself as I saw a smile on his face, but I couldnât help it and burst out laughing.
âOur relationship is so unhealthy.â I laughed in disbelief. âWe should really stop doing this. Itâs getting a bit ridiculous.â
Christian pulled me into a side hug and rested his head on my shoulder. âYouâre like a baby.â I giggled while I patted his head. âI donât want to lose you.â He spoke.
âI donât want to lose you either, and I love you.â I comforted him. âI donât know what came over me, and Iâm really sorryâ Christian apologized for the third time.
âYes, I can seeâ I pouted and kissed his head. âYouâre like a cute little baby. You should always stay like this.â I teased him. âDonât yell at me, donât argue with mr-just listen to me.â
âI will,â Christian spoke. âI will fight for Sienaâs money and make sure it doesnât go anywhere else other than her pockets.â
It was nice to see him agree with me. That money was for Siena, and it would be going to her, not her uncle.
âBy the way, since I found out valuable information, does this mean I won the bet?â I asked.
Christian removed his head from my shoulder and gave me a sarcastic smile. âI guess you did.â
âRight?â I spoke, excited. âChristian, do you know what this means?â I asked him to double-check if he hadnât forgotten about our agreement. It meant he would show me everything, including the Lamberti warehouse.
âThis means Iâm stuck with youâ Christian shrugged while I flew into his arms. âThank you, thank you, thank you!â I repeated while I attacked him with kisses, but Christian didnât seem to mind.
âYou seem happy.â He laughed and hugged me back. âYes,â I breathed. âIâm so happy. I can just give you baby number two, three, four-â
âJesus.â A voice gasped. Christian and I turned our heads towards the door and saw Carmen with Siena in her hands. Her cheeks were flushed, and she was unsure of what to do. âCarmen,â
Christian smiled. âCan I help you with something?â
âN-no, you guys go ahead and uhâ¦â Carmen muttered, âI should really learn how to knock. Imagine if I had walked in at the wrong time.â She cringed while Christian and I gave each other a look.
âCarmen, can I help you with something?â Christian repeated his question and ignored her rant.
âWell,â She started. âI came here to give you guys Siena because I have some homework to finish, but the two of you obviously haveâ¦plans, so.â
âCome on,â Christian chuckled and opened his arms. âBring her here.â
âIf you insist.â Carmen shrugged and brought her over to Christian. âSheâs so cute and chubby,â
Carmen commented while she looked at Christian and Siena.
âItâs pretty obvious who her favorite parent is.â Carmen bothered me. Christian didnât even have to do anything to make Siena laugh, while I had to act like an idiot and pull the strangest faces. âThatâs also what I told her!â Christian agreed. âPerhaps if we have another baby-â
âWhat kind of homework do you have, Carmen?â I asked to change the subject. I mightâve went a little crazy with suggesting another baby.
âMath.â Carmen sighed. âIâm just going to fill in some random things so I can at least get it done.â
âSorry,â I spoke and gave her an apologetic look. âI would like to help you, but I barely graduated high school.â
âI can help you!â Christian offered. âIâm good in math. Iâve always been the best.â

âA big head and no brainsâ Christian shook his head and walked out with hiens while I ran after hum âWhat do you mean, big head?â Lasked, offended. It was me of his classic remarks, which I hadnât heard in a while. âYou heard me,â Christian smirked Christian âBy the way, Iâm going to the Lamberti warehouse in the morning so make sure youâre ready Clubstan shared.
Meri I looked behind me to find out if he was talking to songone che, but there was no one around âMetâ) gasped as I pointed to myself while Christian laughed at my reaction âYes, youâ He chuckled Youâre really not the smartest.â
âIâm sorry. It might take some time to get used to this, I spoke It was strange for him to involve me in everything, but I had nothing to complain about âWe have at eight in the morning, so make sure youâre ready.â
âEight?â I gasped. I wasnât used to waking up in the muting and had no issue waking up at nom. I want like Christian and Siena.
âSerena,â Christian sighed. âI usually leave at sis. What hore do you want?â
âNothing!â I spoke. âWe can leave at eight. Itâs perfectl I was not going to argue with him and was already grafciul enough that I got the opportunity to tag along the warehouse for once. âWhat are we going âWhat do you think?â Christian asked as if I was supposed to know.
âWeâre going to find the money before my uncle does
