Chapter 169
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âWhat are all these cars doing here?â I asked Christian while we erred the Lamberti estate: âIs there some party we donât know about?â
I turned my head to look at Siena and held her hand âSiena, your grandpa didnât invite us to the partyâ 1 pouted while all she could do was giggle.
âStop being so overdramaticâ Christian chuckled. âMy dad has a lot of visitors these daysâ
I thought about poor Lucio, who was probably extremely weak, but somehow still pushed through with not only all these visits but also the upcoming photoshoot, and I didnât know whether telling him about Dario today wouldâve been the best thing.
âDonât worry about it.â Christian read my mind. âMy dad will love to hear about Dario.â He convinced himself as he parked the car. âI hope youâre right.â
âIâm always right.â Christian nodded. âHeâll accept Dario, and heâll want to meet him right away. I want him to meet him before he doesnât have the opportunity.â
âRight.â I agreed. I think we were all prepared for what kind of hell would break loose after Lucio died, even though Bertoâs plans were on hold at the moment. He didnât have Dario to rely on, and he did not know where Luca was, but we were all on the same boat, assuming we didnât even know the correct location of the money he was after.
âIs there a reason why we came so early?â I asked Christian. He always avoided going in the morning, but for some reason, he had changed his mind today. âNo particular reason,â Christian spoke. âI just thought we could hang out here for the day if thatâs alright with you?â
âIâm fine with it.â I rolled my eyes. âI only donât know if your mom will be.â
âDonât act crazy.â Christian chuckled. âMy mom still likes you. Trust me. If she didnât, you wouldâve noticed it by now.â
He had a point. Cesca was a devil, and if she really wanted me gone, she wouldâve made sure of it.
âYouâre not going anywhere, Serena, and neither is Siena.â Christian smiled. âIâll never let go of you again.â
I looked down, embarrassed, and tried to avoid his eyes. âStop being so corny.â
âStop pushing me to be so corny,â Christian complained while he stepped out of the car and went to the back to grab Siena. âI canât wait until I can ask her whatâs so funny.â Christian laughed while he took a look. at her happy face.
âNeither can I.â
I locked my arm with Christianâs and walked towards the front door. âYou two also here?â One of the guards spoke. âItâs really crowded today. Your dad has a lot of visitors.â
âI can see,â Christian commented before we walked in. The house filled with many voices as we slowly we made our way to the living room. âHey?â I spoke, surprised. âWhat are you guys doing here?â
I looked at my mom, my dad, and my brothers, who all sat around Lucio. My dad immediately got up made his way over to hug me. âVisiting, of course!â He spoke while my mom looked right past me as if she was looking for something.
and Christian made his way over to Lucio and the others while my mom pulled me to the side. âWhere is Carmen?â She asked with a sad look on her face. âIsnât she here wish you?â
âShe said she had a lot of schoolwork,â I explained while my mom folded her arms. âIs she ever going to come home?â
âCome on, stop it. My dad rolled his eyes. âSheâs enjoying her freedom, and she calls you every single day.â
âBut what about Luke?â My mom continued. I bet she was just as worried and not a big fan of the idea of Luke and Carmen being apart. âDonât worry. Carmen will come home.â I reassured my mom, who let out a relieved sigh.
âI told her I donât want her separated from Luke, and thereâs no way heâll want to live in a house with us, so donât worry about it.â
âThank god.â Lita laughed before she finally pulled me into a hug. âWow, mom, good to see you havenât forgotten about me,â I spoke. âYou didnât even look at Siena.â
My mom let out an embarrassed gasp and turned around to look at the baby. Siena sat on Lucioâs lap and was as hyperactive as always.
âSerena!â Christian called out my name while Lucio leaned forward to look at me with a big smile. I followed Christianâs instructions and walked over to Lucio.
âMy dad has a question for you.â Christian smiled and looked at his dad. âYes,â Lucio nodded. âI want to know if the two of you are doing alright.â
I smiled at Christian, who waited for my answer. He seemed pretty confident. âWeâre doing perfectly fine.â I told Lucio.
He looked down at Siena and held her hand. I felt my heart shatter at the sight of his hand and noticed he had gotten even skinnier, but he still carried the same kind smile on his face. âI heard Enzo is sleeping over at your place.â He told Christian. âHe visited me yesterday. It was so good to see him.â
The peaceful look on Lucioâs face was exactly what he needed right now, and I could only hope that he would react the same after hearing about Dario. âHe came with your little sister, Carmen.â Lucio continued.
âSheâs so polite and kind. Isnât it amazing how we all get along so well?â
Christian and I gave each other a look and tried to hold back our laughter. If he only knew about everything that had happened. âThe two of you have to stay together,â Lucio spoke. âNot only for Siena but also for each other.â
Christian placed his hand on Lucioâs knee and gave him a nod. âI know, dad.â He chuckled. âWe should be the least of your worries. You have much more important stuff to worry about!â
âYes.â I agreed with Christian. âLike what weâre going to wear for the shoot. Have you already decided on a color?â
Lucio was just about to open his mouth, but before he even got the chance to-Cesca grabbed his wheelchair and pushed him aside. âWeâre wearing white.â
Cesca glared at me while Christian glared at her, but I was not going to let her win today and especially not with Lucio in the room. âThatâs pretty.â I smiled at Lucio, who looked back at Cesca.
âSheâs pretty, isnât she?â He asked, referring to Siena.
âShe is Cesca sighed âShe looks just like her mom, and she has de me look in her eyes to Sheâs just as nosy âMomââ Christian called cam while Lucio let out a laugh âWhat? Itâs true, right?â Cesca laughed. âHave you already told your dad about her little visit to the warehouse âMomâ Christian warned her while Cesca gave him a smirk. âThe warehouse Lucio asked, surprised. âYou took her to the warehouse?â
âYes. Christian replied as if he was expecting some kind of scolding. âYes, I did.â
Lucio went into deep thoughts before he gave us an unexpected reaction. âThatâs great, thatâs amazingâ He spoke to Cescaâs surprise. âDid they treat you well. Serena?â
I glared at Cesca, who had a startled look on her face, and nodded my head. âYes, they were all really nice.â
âGood.â Lucio smiled. âYouâre really important in this family, so everyone needs to treat you with respect.â
âI agree, Christian spoke and glared at Cesca, who was visibly irritated. âItâs not like weâre getting rid of her, so we might as well accept her.â Franco suddenly revealed himself.
âWhoâs getting rid of Serena?â Lucio spoke, confused, but Cesca shrugged him off. âNo oneâs getting rid of her.â
I looked at my parents and brothers, who were in their own world and were focused on Milo before I looked back at Christian. âWe should do it now,â I whispered. This was the perfect opportunity to do so.
âDad.â Christian started. âCan I steal you away for a minute?â
Cesca and Franco gave Christian a confused look, while Lucio seemed happy by just spending time with Christian. âSure, letâs go!â He smiled. âYou too, grandpa,â Christian spoke, but Cesca couldnât stand it and had to invite herself.
We made our way to a separate room, where Lucio, Franco, and Cesca waited for Christian to open his mouth. âSo, what do you want to about?â Lucio asked while he played with Siena.
âYouâre not thinking about changing her middle name, are you?â
âNo, of course not.â Christian sighed. âThatâs not it. Itâs something else.â
âYou and Serena are going to plan the wedding?â Franco frowned, but Christian shook his head again. âYes, we will eventually-but thatâs not what itâs about,â Christian spoke.
âItâs about uncle Berto.â
The frown from Francoâs face had disappeared, and he seemed uncomfortable. âW-what about him?â Lucio asked, confused. Just the mention of his name felt highly uncomfortable.
âGrandpa, he had another son, didnât he?â Christian asked. âThe one who left with his mom.â
âYes,â Franco replied while Lucio had a sad smile on his face. âWe donât even know what happened to the child. Why would you bring it up now?â Franco hissed. âDidnât we all decide to leave the past behind us?â
The subject hit them all pretty hard, which only made me wonder how much worse it couldâve been if Berto were to reveal himself. âWe did,â Christian spoke. âBut things have changed, and I have something to tell you.â
âWell?â Cesca asked after a short silence. âWhat do you have to tell us?â
Christian took a deep breath and walked over to Lucio to hold his hand. âGrandpa, come here.â
Christian kindly requested for him to come over. Franco cleared his throat as he looked at Christianâs hand and eventually decided to accept it.
âI found him.â Christian smiled. âAnd he would like to meet both of you. He would like to be part of this family.â
âY-you what?â Franco spoke, shocked, while Lucio needed some time to catch his breath. I grabbed Siena from his lap, so he could process the news. âYou know where Bertoâs son is?â
âI do,â Christian told him. âDo you really know where my nephew is?â Lucio gasped while Franco was still shocked by the news. Cesca was just as confused and went pale.
âIs this why you asked me all those questions, Serena?â Franco turned his head to me. I didnât expect his question and nodded my head. âY-yes!â I lied, but he seemed to believe me.
âHow did you find him?â Lucio asked with tearful eyes. âWeâve been looking for him for years. How did you find him?â
Christianâs eyes grew big at this new information. We had no idea they had been looking for him, and neither did Dario. âLetâs sayâ¦you havenât been looking hard enough.â Christian chuckled.
âHeâs been here all along, but we were too blind to see it.â
âCan you tell me his name?â Franco asked. This was the first time I had seen him speechless and wondered what was going through his head. He seemed relieved and maybe even happy. âPlease tell me his name.â He repeated while Christian seemed unsure of what to say.
He took a deep breath and released Lucio and Francoâs hands before he looked them in the c prepared himself to tell them the truth.
âItâs Dario⦠Dario Orlando.â
