Chapter 180
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
Christian âSo when is that cousin of yours coming?â Beau asked as the two waited in front of the mall. âHeâll be here soon.â Christian stated. At least, that what he was expecting.
âHe stood you up.â Beau chuckled while he pushed Sienaâs stroller back and forth. âNo, he didnât, stop it.â Christian rolled his eyes.
âSo you are serious about this?â Beau looked at Christian. âI told you, Iâm sending Serena away.â
It was a spontaneous decision, but one which would be for the best. Christian was determined to find the key as soon as possible, and although he appreciated Serena being at his side, he didnât want her to get involved.
Thatâs why he came up with a quick solution, a surprise vacation for Serena and her friends, who he knew she missed a lot. âI still donât understand how Isobel got involved in all of this and why she has to go on vacation with a bunch of girls who donât like her.â
âBecause Isobel is annoying.â Christian rolled his eyes. âWe have hard days ahead of us, and I donât want her to distract you. She has this habit of calling you every second to force you to come back home, I canât have that, and besides that-I need someone to keep an eye on Serena.â
âRight.â Beau chuckled. âAnyway, she agreed to it because you asked her to-but the case with Serena is a bit different.â
âYou donât really think you can buy my sister a suitcase filled with clothing and send her off to Panama, do you?â Beau laughed out loud. âItâs my sister weâre talking about-she wonât do leave that easily.â
âYes, she will,â Christian stated. He was pretty confident that she would. âEvery bit of doubt will disappear once she sees her friends. She wonât even question my intentions.â
âOh,â Beau spoke, surprised. âWow, you really planned all of this within hours, didnât you?â
âYes,â Christian smiled. He couldnât believe that he even went as far as checking every piece of Serenaâs clothing, just so he could buy her the right size-but he wanted it to be a surprise. He didnât want to give Serena the opportunity to decline his offer.
âBeau, did you know Gina left?â Christian suddenly addressed the situation. He knew how difficult it could be to go through an experience like that on her own, and despite everything, he wanted to be there to comfort her. He knew that he had his family, but Gina had no one.
âEnzo said she left. Just drop it already.â Beau shrugged him off. Christian was shocked by Beauâs behavior but figured it was probably because he was looking out for his twin and didnât want to hear her name. He decided to let it drop, but he wouldnât let it rest.
âAnyway, so you want to send Serena away while we look for the key and get the money?â Beau confirmed. âYes, and the photoshoot is two days after,â Christian spoke.
âIâm not only doing this to get rid of her, you know.â Christian smiled as his mind went back to Serena. âSheâs been through a lot, and she never really had the time to relax. I want her to take care of herself.â
âYes, I know.â Beau agreed. âKnowing Serena, she would rather help you-
âAnd she canât this time because itâll be dangerous,â Christian spoke. âI donât know what my uncle has planned, we havenât heard a single thing from him, and I want Serena to be safe.â
âAnd what about Siena?â Beau asked. âHow are you going to supervise Carmenâs party, find the key, get the money and take care of a baby-all in two days?â
Christian took a deep breath. âIâll manage.â
âYes, you always do, because somehow youâve managed to drag Serena away from the baby,â
Beau muttered. âHow about you let her be a mom for once and send Siena with her?
âBecauseâ¦â Christian spoke. âIâm not going to explain that to you. Once your babies get here, youâll understand why I canât do that.â
Beau was just about to answer but was interrupted by Dario. âHi, Christianâ¦and Beau,â He awkwardly greeted him. Christian showed him a welcoming smile and placed his hand on his shoulder.
âI thought we were past being awkward.â
âWe are.â Dario nodded. âIâm just confused as to why you brought me to aâ¦mall.â He spoke. âI thought we were going to discuss how to stop my dad.â
âChristianâs is sending away Serena so we can find the key and get the money.â Beau suddenly shared while Christian gave him a look. âW-we?â Dario frowned.
âYes, we,â Christian spoke. âJust because youâre new to the family doesnât mean that you can sit of butt all day and do nothing,â Christian told him as he slammed his arm around his shoulder and inside.
âRight, Beau?â Christian looked back at Beau, who was pushing Sienaâs stroller. âRight.â Beau agreed. also need you to help us supervise a bunch of teenagers at a party, especially some guy named Logan.â
âOh?â Dario spoke, startled. âYes, sure-I can do that.â
âI have some good news myself, Francoâ¦or Iâll call him grandpa-placed security around the house, so itâs safe for me to return.â Dario shared. âAlthough, I have no idea where my dad is, and that isnât a good thing âWeâll discuss it later,â Christian told him. âWe have more important stuff to worry about, stuff like what Serena is going to wear on her way to Panama.â
âRight.â Dario smiled. âHow is she doing?â
Christian couldnât believe Dario had the nerve to ask about her, while it hadnât even been twenty-
four hours. âGood,â He forced a smile onto his face.
âSo where to first?â Beau asked after noticing the look on Christianâs face, âI donât know,â Christian admitted.
It took them over an hour, but after a long time, the shopping spree was finally coming to an end.
âI think I filled the entire suitcase-this is our last stop,â Christian stated as the three walked into the final store. âI donât know how women do this. Even the baby is half-asleep.â Beau commented.
âNot all women.â Christian corrected him. âYour sister hates shopping.â He spoke as he thought about Serena, who complained whenever they went shopping and was always on the lookout for the nearest couch.
âArc you still alive, Dario?â Beau asked and turned his head, but Dario was long gone. âI canât believe this guy.â Beau chuckled as the two looked at Dario, who already had a group of women surrounding him.
âI actually donât mind,â Christian confessed with a smile on his face. âSeeing he does this with everyone means heâs most likely not a threat to meâ¦at least I hope so.â
âYes, or to me,â Beau agreed. âHeâs all Isobelâs been talking about.â
Christian and Beau were so invested in Dario that they hadnât noticed the store employee who made their way over to them. âCan I help you?â The woman asked with a seductive smile on her face, but Christian was traumatized and didnât even want to shoot a smile at someone like that ever again. He had learned from his mistake, and the only person he wanted was Serena.
âIâm not here for myselfâ¦Iâm here for my fiancée, the mother of my babyâ¦thatâs our baby, Iâm a dad.â Christian made clear while Beau, who anticipated his answer, burst out laughing. âI think she gets the message.â
Christian rolled his eyes and made eye contact with the woman, who had a disappointed look on her face. âBut you can help me, actually,â Christian spoke as he handed her the sizes he wrote down. âIâm looking for something she can wear to the beach, but Iâm a bit clueless.â
âThatâs fine.â The woman smiled. âDid you have something in mind? Does she needs a bikini or a one-pi âSheâs pretty, so anything will do,â Christian spoke in a hurry. Also, he had enough of it and was ready to move on to their next destination, the hospital to visit Gio.
âOkay? And what color does your fiancée like?â
âDoesnât matter, expensive things with diamonds and glittersâ¦she doesnât mind, as long as itâs expensive.â Christian spoke. He knew all too well Serena always ended up wanting the most expensive piece, even if she did it unintentionally.
âI see,â The woman chuckled. âCome on, please follow me.â
âAre you calling my sister a golddigger?â Beau asked as he pushed the stroller along with him.
âWhat?â Christian spoke, confused. âNo, she canât even tell designer brands apart. I didnât mean it like that!â
Christian listened to the endless suggestions and bought whatever he felt Serena would like.
âYou know, youâre actually hilarious, Christian,â Beau commented.
âWhy?â
âBecause you came up with this plan to get rid of Serena for a few days, and youâre actually going along with it.â Beau sighed. âItâs my sister youâre playing, so Iâm supposed to punch you-
âPlease not again.â Christian chuckled. âI let it go the first time because I deserved it, but this time Iâll kill you.â
âKill me?â Beau frowned. âI would like to see you try.â
Christian did the unexpected and ruffled his hand through Beauâs hair as if he was a baby. âStop it.â
Beau hissed, annoyed.
Having him near him made him realize that Beau wasnât that different from Vince. He could tell the two used to spent a lot of time together and felt grateful he got to lend him as a friend, even if it was just for a while.
Just until Vince gets back, Christian promised himself. He already took so much from Vince, but there was one thing he wouldnât take, and that was his best friend.
âDo you resent Vince?â Christian suddenly asked. The expression on Beauâs face had changed as he thought about his friend, who had no issue handing him over to his twisted father, and watched as he was tied to a chair and bled to death.
âI still visit him, and Vince has gone through a lot, donât you think?â Beau answered the question.
âBut do you resent him?â Christian asked as he thought about his uncle.
Wouldnât it be for the best if he would apologize and we could all move on? Christian thought to himself. If Beau was able to forgive Vince and Isobel, they could do it too.
Beau was just about to answer before Dario joined the two and slammed an arm around their shoulders.
âThe mall was a good idea after all.â He laughed out loud. Seeing Dario having a good time and being capable of hanging out with him was already enough to make Christian happy.
He was done arguing and did not want to have any trouble. Thatâs the exact reason why he never confronted Dario. He saw how he looked at Serena and how she looked at him, but he decided to let it rest. He wanted to believe that Serena wasnât like him.
âThe two of you should try being single sometime!â Dario suggested while both Beau and Christian pulled him off.
Just the words âbeing singleâ made Christian feel uncomfortable, and he could not imagine a life without Serena.
âWhat do you mean single? Isobel and I have two babies on the way.â Beau chuckled.
âYes, but donât you feel suffocated?â Dario asked as they made their way outside. âDo you really want to settle down at this age?â He continued. âLose your freedom?â
âI have my freedom!â Beau insisted, but before he could say another word, his phone went off. âLet me guess, Isobel?â Christian laughed at the worried look on Beauâs face.
âI have to take this one. Iâm sorry.â Beau whispered, embarrassed.
âYou donât really love me, do you?â Christian heard Isobelâs voice. He got chills throughout his body just by hearing that tone and was suddenly a bit more grateful for Serena, who only gave him a hard time whenever he deserved it.
âW-what?â Beau spoke. âWhat do you mean, I donât love you?â
Christian heard a deep breath from Isobelâs mouth and gave Beau a pat of encouragement. âIâm carrying your two babies, Iâm also taking care of Luis, I havenât even finished packing for tomorrow, Iâve been calling you every ten minutes to drop hints about how lonely I am-and meanwhile, you spend your time at the fucking mall with Chr Beau rolled his eyes and covered his phone with his hand so that he could ignore the sound of Isobelâs voice. âSo this is freedom?â Dario smirked. âWe can all see.â
Christian let out a laugh and shrugged his shoulders. He could not remember Serena having any moods. wings like that. âGive her a break. Sheâs pregnant.â He smiled.
Beau sighed and placed the phone near his ear once again. âYouâre right, babe. Itâs all my fault.â He apologized. âIâm a bad person, and I deserve to get punished for my actions.â
âYes, of course, Iâll come home right now!â
âIs Serena also like that?â Dario chuckled. Christian had to remind himself to stay calm. Theyâre close friends. Of course, he was going to ask questions about Serena.
âNo,â Christian told him. âIsobel isâ¦a special case. Sheâs always been like this.â
âAh, yes,â Dario commented. âThe two of you were-â
After seeing the curious frown on Christianâs face, Dario decided to keep his mouth shut. Christian was in no mood to talk about his past with Isobel, and everyone else had already erased it from existence. It was the best for everyone involved.
âIâm sorry, but Iâll have to cut our day short.â Beau apologized as he finally ended the phone call. It wasnât something new for Christian. He was used to it.
âI better get going. I donât want to anger her even more.â
âI understand.â Christian smiled and took the stroller from Beauâs grip. âYou only have to survive for one more day.â
âYes, that vacation seems like a good plan after all.â Beau agreed. He leaned down to give Siena a pinch on her cheek and kissed her forehead. âIâm sorry, Siena, uncle, has to go back home now-
âUnwillingly.â Dario laughed while Christian joined him. Beau gave Dario one last glare before he walked off. âThatâs a sad situation, and she got him trapped for life.â Dario sighed. âHe doesnât deserve that.â
âIt doesnât really matter.â Christian smiled. It was the same thing Gio used to say about him and Serena, but Christian learned that people only focused on the negative stuff. âSheâs like that because she loves him. Thatâs nothing to be sad about.â
âI guess you have a point.â Dario shrugged. Christian looked over at Dario and wondered how someone so positive could still be negative. âAm I also like that?â Christian whispered in disbelief.
âWhat?â Dario asked while Christian shrugged him off and pushed the stroller into his hands. âI said itâs just you, me, and the baby.â
A smile grew on Darioâs face as he looked down at Siena, who stuck out her hands to touch his face.
âJust you, me, and the baby.â Dario smiled.
