Chapter 184
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
âShe so happy. I really wonder where she got it from.â I smiled as I looked at the smile on her face.
She seemed so cheerful and peaceful.
âShe has it from you.â
âMe?â.
I was anything but cheerful and peaceful. If anything, I was a bit annoying at times and wasnât ashamed to admit it. âYes, you might not realize it-but the two of you are so much alike.â
âAre we?â
âYes,â Christian spoke. âNow go and take a shower.â
He got up from the bed and walked away as he held Siena in his arms. âCome on, move it!â
âYes, yes.â I rolled my eyes. Sometimes his demands were getting on my last nerves. âAnd donât come down until I come and get you!â
He slammed the door shut and left me behind, flustered. I was really curious about what this surprise was going to be, but felt grateful enough to know that I was even getting one.
I followed Christianâs instructions and took a shower before I put on the outfit he prepared for me.
Whatever he planned seemed to be serious, because it was so hot I was almost dying of the heat.
One thing was for sure. He wasnât taking me to a fancy place. It had to be outdoors. Would he take us on a picnic? I smiled at the idea of going on a picnic as a family and took my time to do my hair and makeup.
Looking presentable was the least I could do.
It took me about an hour, and I was already finished, but Christian was still out of sight. Did he forget about me?
My eyes moved to his phone on the nightstand, and even if it was just for a second, my heart had stopped beating.
Did he see the way I looked at Dario?
Was he testing me?
Would he take me to a lie detector test center? Was that my gift?
Why would he even leave his phone on the nightstand?
Should I take a look?
No, Serena-you are not that kind of person, I told myself as I closed my eyes, so I did not have to face the phone.
It was time to stop lying to myself. I was that kind of person.
I opened my eyes and took a deep breath as I made my way to the nightstand and grabbed Christianâs phone. He gave me free access to look through it, and I would make good use out of it.
Unlocking his phone was not that difficult because I figured his password mustâve been something basic like Sienaâs birth date, and I was correct. I had no time to waste and went through his search history.
Why is my baby laughing at nothing?â
âWhy is my baby pooping so much?â
âWhen do babies start talking!
âWhen do babies say mama and dada?â When âCan babies crawl at five months?â
15 Bonus I couldnât hold back my laughter and cracked up at his search history. It was definitely different from what I had imagined but innocent and cute.
I moved over to his messages and automatically went to the name on the top, which was Darioâs.
Christian Are you on your way?
Dario Yes Be there soon!
So Dario was coming over today? I ignored the feeling of my beating heart and quickly moved on to the following conversation, which was with Beau.
Beau So I looked into Carmenâs little friend Christian Did you?
Just let them be Beau I canât Christian Idiot Just donât forget about tomorrow Beau How can I?
Itâs all Isobelâs been talking about âWhatâs going on today?â I whispered to myself. I thought today would be âSerena day and that Christian and I would do something together, but apparently not. Perhaps it was a double date, just like the last time?
I let a sigh escape from my mouth and moved on to the following chat. I did not know what I expected to find on why I was so insecure, but there wasnât much going on.
Gio I love you, little brother Christian ?
Gio When can you and Serena watch the kids?
I laughed out loud at Gioâs bold question and didnât notice any footsteps. The door suddenly opened, and I did not know how fast to hide the phone behind my back. âIâm back-â Christian stopped in his steps. His eyes shifted from the nightstand to my hands which were behind my back.
âWere you going through my phone?â He asked. He could probably read the worry on my face as I thought of several ways to deny his accusation, but I couldnât do it. âYes?â
âOkay?â Christian responded. I stared at him with a fearful look in my eyes, but all those feelings disappeared when he laughed at me. I let out a relieved sigh and joined him. âIâm so sorry. It was there and-
Christian ignored my words and pulled me into a hug. âI donât care. I have nothing to hide from you, and whateverâs mine is also yours-now letâs go.â
I was shocked by his sudden words, but before I could say anything, he covered my eyes with a blindfold. âWhatâs the meaning of this?â I nervously laughed. âWhat are you doing?â
âWhat do you mean?â Christian spoke, sarcastic. âAs you can see, Iâm blindfolding you?â
âBlindfolding?â
âYes, blindfolding?â I heard Christianâs voice near my ear. âI didnât know you were into that kind of stuff.â 1 teased him, but Christian took my words seriously and leaned his head over my shoulder.
âAre you into that kind of stuff?â
âI donât know, am I?â I spoke, confused. It was something I hadnât even figured out yet. âCome on, letâs go.â
Christian placed his hand behind my back and led me out of the room while I was scared for my life.
âIâm not going to push you down the stairs. Stop overreacting.â Christian sighed, annoyed.
âI donât like the dark!â I reminded Christian. âYou know that!â
You know, youâre worse than Siena.â Christian complained before he threw me over his shoulder with ease. âWhat are you doing?â
âIâm carrying you.â
âPlease be careful, please donât drop me!â I spoke, afraid. âWhere are we going?â I asked while Christian carried me down the stairs, but I got no answer in return. By the looks of it, it seemed as if he had earned me to the living room.
âAre you ready for your surprise?â Christian spoke as he finally put me back on my two feet. He grabbed me by my shoulders to turn me around and slowly removed the blindfold from my eyes.
I opened my eyes and frowned at the suitcase in front of me. It was definitely for me because it was in my favorite color, pink-but I did not know what what was going on. âWowâ¦a suitcases?â I spoke, surprised How could Christian plan a vacation when we still had so much to handle? His crazy uncle was still MIA and was probably thinking of ways to contact Luca. We had to look for the key to get Sienaâs money-so how could Christian plan a vacation?
âAre we leaving?â I asked him as I turned around. I felt bad after seeing the sad look in his eyes and I didnât want to seem ungrateful, so I forced a smile onto my face and pulled him into a hug. âI mean, I wonât mind having our first vacation together-â
âIâm not going anywhere. You are.â Christian pulled me away. âI am?â
âYes, youâre going to Panama,â Christian spoke. âArenât you happy? You donât look happy?â
Happy?
I thought he bought me gifts because he wanted to spoil me, but the last thing I expected was for him to send me away. âW-what?â
âItâs just for two days!â Christian spoke with a nervous smile on my face. âArenât you happy?â
âI-1..â I stuttered but stopped mid-sentence when another sad frown appeared on his face. âOf course Iâm happyâ¦I mean, itâs Panama!â I smiled at him. âBut what about the baby and Carmenâs party?â
âWhat about the key?â I whispered the last part. It was really kind, but I was in no position to go on a vacation.
âThe baby is staying with me,â Christian spoke. My eyes grew big as I immediately shook my head.
âAbsolutely not.â
âI canât do that. What kind of mom would that make me?â
A chuckle escaped from Christianâs mouth as he ruffled my hair with his hands. âDonât do that. I just straightened it!â I nagged him âI had a feeling you were going to use Siena to talk me out of it, but I have a secret weapon,â
Christian announced while he opened his arms. I observed the smirk on his face and turned around to see what he was looking at, and I almost couldnât believe my eyes.
âSurprise!â Three all too familiar voices yelled out. I slammed my hand in front of my mouth and turned around to look at Christian, who shrugged his shoulders.
This couldnât be true?
How did he even manage to do it?
I turned around again to see whether I was dreaming, but I wasnât. It was real, and the people right in from of me were real.
My three best friends.
