Chapter 196
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
Christian âSo everything is being taken care of, Franco is transferring the money, Iâve also taken care of Carmen and Lukeâs party, and all we have to do is prepare for tonight. Beau informed Christian Christian gave him a nod, but all he could think of was Serena. The text had bothered him, and he wanted to call her back, but he couldnât. He knew he got easily distracted, and he did not want to risk with his uncle.
Christian called for a last-minute meeting with all of the men he had gathered to capture his uncle He had chosen a group of twelve of loyal men who were able to take a secret to their grave, and he believed they were able to do so because they didnât carry the Lainberti burden. As expected, they were all surprised at the sudden news of Bertoâs resurrection, but they all listened to Christianâs instructions and were busy with the preparations for tonight.
âI cut off all of his credit cards and managed to gain the trust of every last person who worked for the Orlandoâs.â Dario jumped in. Christian was proud of Dario for making that difficult decision, but it was for the best.
He couldnât even begin to imagine how difficult it mustâve been to go against his own father, but Dario was willing to help, and that was all that mattered.
âYou have a thing for breaking people to the point they get too crazy to even defend themselves, donât you?â Beau commented. He had observed Christian and noticed it was the same strategy he used on Fabio Garcia.
It was weak, low, and an action of a coward, but it worked, and that was enough for Christian.
âWeâve been playing this game for way too long, and itâs time to end itâ He explained. Christian had enough of his uncle, and him ruining what he had with Serena was the final straw.
Even though Christian knew that the cheating part was all on him, he also knew that things were perfect. after Siena was born. That was the time when nothing could get in between them.
âYour phone,â Dario smiled at Beau as his eyes moved towards the bright phone screen. Christianâs widened his eyes as he read Isobelâs name and ignored the apologetic look on Beauâs face.
âIâm sorry, I have to take this.â Beau apologized as he got up from his chair, but Christian pulled him down. and shook his head. âTake itâ¦take it here, itâs an order. Ile spoke, embarrassed. He was the first to admit that there was a lot he could learn from Beau and secretly wondered how he managed to handle someone like Isobel.
âIâm would like to apologize in advance.â Beau chuckled before he accepted the call. Christian was only interested in what Isobel had to say and scooted closer so he wouldnât miss a single word.
âSo, can you talk like a normal human now?â Beau laughed.
How can he be so calm? Christian thought, knowing his approach wouldâve been a bit different.
âBeau, Iâm sorry for this morning, and Iâm sorry that I ignored your call.â Isobel apologized. Christian was shocked to hear the word, sorry, from his friendâs mouth and was wondering if perhaps Serena wouldâve done the same.
âWhat was that?â Beau teased her. âI said Iâm sorry, now donât make me repeat myself.â
Beau laughed at Isobelâs failed attempt to apologize and decided to let it go. Itâs fine, donât worry about it.â He spoke. âI should be the one to apologize. Iâve just been so busy that the idea of calling you hasnât crossed my mind.â
âYouâre just too cute,â Isobel gushed while Christian rolled his eyes. It had never been that easy for him, but then againâhe had never been the one to apologize.
âWhat about Serenalâ Christian whispered while he scooted even closer as Beau frowned his eyebrows. âS- so, how was your night?â
âWildâ Isobel called out. Christian furrowed his eyebrows at the new information. He had seen the pictures the security had send him, but he didnât even had the energy to scroll past the third one.
âWild?â Beau chuckled.
âYes, wild-did you know the girls really took shots from some guyâs abs.â
âAsk her about Serena?â Christian whispered again. He knew he had no right to say what she could and couldnât do, but the thought of her doing something like that disgusted him. âAnd Serena?â
Beau followed Christianâs request.
âYes-her included,â Isobel confirmed. Christian felt defeated and as if he had failed her. He believed that if she could do something like that, she was capable of doing anything. This was not what he meant when he told her to have fun.
âYou know, Iâm the one who encouraged her to go out in the first place-because Christian is even worse than you and hasnât called her at all. Like I know that heâs busy and all, but Iâm starting to doubt his love for her-â
âIsobel-â Beau called out, but Isobel had no plans to stop and continued her rant.
âHeâs an asshole who doesnât care for anyone other than Siena, and thatâs why she send her bikini pics to Dario-â
âIsobel, stop!â Beau stopped her from talking. It took some time for Christian to process her words, and the awkward silence wasnât exactly helping. Beau looked at Christian while Christian stared right into his cousinâs eyes and was shocked to see that he was completely unfazed.
Dario smiled at Christian and shrugged his shoulders as if it was nothing, but Christian couldnât be angry. It is just a picture, he told himself. If it was really something worry about, Dario wouldnât have remained that confident.
âDonât tell me youâre on his side?â Isobel snapped. âDo you know what your âbff has been doing to us?â
Christian found it hard to believe that the woman who had always been that desperate for his attention didnât want anything to do with him. âNo? What did he do?â Beau gave Christian a suspicious look. He had plans to leave the room, but Christian pushed him back down.
âHe has ordered people to spy on us and not just one, like a dozen,â Isobel revealed. âI mean, he literally told me to âspyâ on Serena, so it isnât as if we didnât expect it.â
âHe sends people to spy on you?â Beau asked. Christian stared down at Beauâs clenched fist and let out an annoyed sigh. This was the exact reason why he didnât want to deal with his issues with Serena right now. Beau was distracted, and it was all because of one phone call.
How could she have known? Christian wondered. He had ordered some of his best men to keep an eye on her, but it seemed like that plan had failed.
âHe sure did!â Isobel confirmed. âNot just Serena, all of us-and he did it because he doesnât trust us.â
âSerena is pissed, and she has every right to be.â
âYes,â Beau spoke while he glared at Christian. âYes, she does have the right to be angry.â
Beau did not felt comfortable knowing he had sent people to follow them. He knew that it wasnât for protection but because he lacked trust and always felt the need to be in control of everything.
âI think Christian needs to think about what he truly wants.â Isobel sighed.
âWell, what do you think he âtrulyâ wants.â
âNot Serena, thatâs for sure. She texted him this morning, and he still hasnât called her because he has no use for her.â Isobel spoke. âHe has Siena, and at the end of the day, thatâs all he ever wanted.â
âBeau, I know youâre all about Christian nowadays, but Serena is your twin sister, and sheâs broken,â Isobel spoke. âWhen Iâm saying stuff like this-Iâm speaking from experience because I followed his ass for years, and heâs incapable of caring for too many people at a time.â
âI know,â Beau whispered. Christian was shocked by Beauâs answer and tried his hardest to keep his mouth. shut. He disagreed with Isobelâs statement and knew he had never loved a woman the same way he loved otherwise. Serena. It was something different from what he had ever felt before, and no one could tell him âHeâs no good for her-â
âI have to go,â Beau told Isobel. He felt as if he was right in the middle of it and didnât know what to do. Christian was like his brother, while Serena was his other half.
âOhâ¦already?â Isobel spoke, flustered. âLet me guess. You have to get back to Christian-â
âDonât be like that. Iâll call you later. I love you-bye!â Beau ended the conversation. He knew heâd most likely get yelled at for hanging up in her ear, but somehow that idea seemed much better than whatever was about to leave her mouth.
Dario leaned back in his chair and tapped his finger on the table as he stared from Christian to Beau. âUh, just to make myself clear.â Dario began. âSerena is a good friend of mine, and the picture was just a joke. Iâm sure she had no intentions to hurt you.â
âI donât care,â Christian spoke nonchalantly. He did care, and he was close to exploding, but the last thing he wanted was to blame his cousin for something he had no control over. How could she do this to me? Christian thought for a split second, but that thought had once again disappeared when he thought about his own mistakes.
There was nothing he could do about it, and it bothered him, âSo weâre cool?â Dario frowned. âOh, my issue is not with you.â Christian shrugged him off while Beau sighed at his response.
âThen who is it with, my sister and Isobel?â He asked. âIs that the reason why you send people to âspyâ on them?â
âCan you blame me?â Christian spoke. âOne is apparently drinking shots from half-naked men and is too lazy to check up on her daughter, while the other one has so much to say about me while she should ask God for forgiveness for what she has done to Vince-â
âWhat has she has done to Vince?â
âYou can ask him that when he wakes up, or if he wakes upâ Christian nodded at Beau âWhy do you think heâs in a coma in the first place?â
âBecause of you!â Beau spoke. âI donât know if youâve realized-but all issues start with you.
âSoâ Dario chuckled awkwardly. âWe went from females to some guy who is not even here to defend himself, and the two of you clearly have some unfinished business, so Iâll just leave and-â
âNo.â Christian stopped him. âThere is no issue, and we donât have time for this. Thereâs still a lot to take care of, so sit down and letâs get to work.â
âShe texted you, and you didnât call her back. She has a daughter, your daughter. You canât do this to her!â Beau jumped to Serenaâs defense. He was far from finished with this conversation.
âOkay then.â Dario smiled. This is awkward-â
âIâm almost starting to think that you send away Serena on purpose-so she couldnât interfere with you and Siena,â Beau concluded. âDo you even love her?â
Christian closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Beau was the last person he wanted to argue with. One twin was already more than enough.
âDonât question my love for her. Please donât go there. Christian tried to remain calm. âI love Serena more than you could ever imagine, and everything I do is for her and Siena.â He reminded him.
âAnd scene.â Dario laughed out loud, but his expression quickly vanished after seeing the look on Christian and Beauâs faces. âListen,â Dario spoke.
âThereâs clearly a lot going on, and I honestly donât care, but what I do care about is catching my dad.â Dario looked at the two. âIf this plan doesnât work out tonight, weâre screwed, and we canât let that happen.â
Dario got up from his chair and walked towards Christian and Beau, who couldnât even look each other in the eye. Dario grabbed Christianâs hand and placed it on top of Beauâs while Christian shot Dario a glare..
âIf you guys want to beat each other up and fight till the death, you can do that tomorrow-but I want my freedom, and I canât let any of you mess that up, so how about a truce?â
âHow about you call my sister?â Beau turned his head. Christian understood Darioâs point and knew that it was not the time to argue. That was the reason why he hadnât picked up the phone to call Serena in the first place.
âHow about you mind your business and keep your trash in check?â Christian spoke. âMy what?â
Beau raised his voice, only to get held back by Dario. âWhat did you just call Isobel?â
âGuys, come on!â Dario clapped his hands. âNow get up, give each other a hug and a kiss and letâs move on.â
âIâm not doing any of that, and Iâm not kissing him either.â Christian snarled as he got up from his chair. Beau followed the same routine and glared at Christian the same way he glared at him.
âJust say, Iâm sorry, I love you-it wonât happen again.â Dario laughed.
âWhat is this? Kindergarten?â Beau judged him, but Dario didnât mind. âYes, since the two of you want to behave like a bunch of children-we will fix this the kindergarten way.â
All Christian could think about was Serena. Dario was right and this wasnât going anywhere.
Stopping Berto was his only priority. He couldnât believe what he was about to do and took a deep breath before he looked into Beauâs eyes. âIâm sorry, I love you, and it wonât happen again.â
Beau failed to hold back his laughter and opened his arms to pull Christian into a hug. âAnd Iâm sorry you had to say that.â He chuckled as he placed his hand on Christianâs shoulder. âI agree, there is no time for distractions, and we have to stay focused-but you really need to call my sister.â
âI will.â
âGood, and you will call her right now.â
