Chapter 198
His Promise: The Mafia’s Babies
Christian âA bit rough, donât you think?â
Christian turned around and looked at Dario He was the last person Christian wanted to see at that moment, especially after Serenaâs confession. It wamât new to Christian, but it felt different to hear it from her mouth, and he did not want to be anyoneâs second choice âBeau wouldâve dragged you through the hallway if he heard you-
âAnd how much did you hear?â Christian wondered. He wondered if he was around long enough to hear Serenaâs confession. âI heard you called her a bad mom, and I donât want to get involved, but thatâs not true, and you know that.â
Donât want to get involved? Christian could hardly believe that statement as all issues started with Dario. He had kept his calm and did not want to let a woman come between his relationship with his cousin. He believed Dario could be valuable to the family business and wanted to keep whatever mess was happening separated from it all.
âYouâre a bit mentally abusive, donât you think?â Dario commented. Christian sighed as he thought about his harsh words. Of course, he didnât think Serena was a bad mom, but he was pissed about Dario and needed to release his anger.
Mentally abusive? Those words sounded terrifying to him and was another reason to doubt their relationship. He didnât mean any of his words and the last thing he wanted was for her to be unhappy.
âLetâs go.â Christian walked past Dario. He was afraid he mightâve punched him if he wouldâv stared at him for just a bit longer. Dario followed Christian outside as they made their way towards Beau.
Christian stood in front of the club and felt his heart drop as he looked at the building. This was where it all happened. This was where Serena caught his attention for the first time. What he didnât know back then was that, that same person would have the ability to ruin his day.
âDid you call my sister?â Beau asked. Christian felt sorry towards Beau and didnât want him to worry.
He knew Dario was right and that Beau would kill him if he had heard his words. âYes, I did.â
âSo, how did it go?â
âGood,â Christian replied. He patted Beau on his shoulder. âWe should go.â
âSo, whatâs the plan?â Dario asked. Christian felt annoyed by just hearing his voice and repeated the same words in his head. He is my cousin.
âBeauâs coming with me, and you can go to the warehouse to keep everything in check,â Christian suggested. He knew he couldnât blame Dario for his issues, but he also knew he didnât want to resent him, so he would do everything to prevent that from happening.
âDonât forget about Kenzo.â Dario reminded him. Christian had forgotten all about his cousin, and that was unlike him. He was starting to feel the effect of Serenaâs words and became sloppy in just a matter of seconds.
He needed his cousin to make the call to his uncle, and his cousin was terrified of him.
âI think heâs a bit more comfortable around me instead of you-â
âYouâre are going to the warehouse,â Christian repeated. He could tell that Dario disagreed with him, but knew he wouldnât dare to speak up. âSure, if thatâs what you want.â
âNo, Dario is coming with you.â Beau spoke up. âIf this is about that picture, you need to stop letting your feelings get in the way of everything.â
Christian felt offended by Beauâs comment, but he wasnât surprised. Of course he protected her, he was her twin brother, so that wasnât that much of a surprise.
Dario could feel the tension and had an uncomfortable look on his face.
âListen, I donât want to cause any troubleââ
âYou know what, itâs fine, youâre coming with us.â Christian sighed as he slowly returned to his senses. He would at least try to push everything aside. Berto was his only priority at the moment.
The moment they arrived back at the mansion, Christian stormed towards his office and locked the door, so he could think about his feelings, but the only thing he could think about was Serena. The thought of her being into Dario disgusted him. Am I not good enough for her? Christian thought to himself.
Even though he was trying, it wasnât easy to put his feelings aside. It wasnât easy to focus when there was other stuff going through his head. He was shocked by his own statement to end their relationship, but he meant every word of it.
He was serious.
If her heart was not with him, there was no reason to keep her hostage.
All he wanted was to give Serena and Siena a real family. Something he knew Serena never had, but he felt like a failure. The old Christian wouldâve punched Dario to death, but the new and improved Christian knew it wouldnât do anything. It wasnât as if Dario asked for it either.
Christian let out a deep sigh and moved his eyes towards the bottles of liquor in the cabinet. âDonât do it,â He whispered to himself. He closed his eyes and repeated the exact words over and over again. âThereâs another way to deal with this stuff, donât do it.â
Christian removed his eyes from the liquor and flinched as he got interrupted by several knocks on the door. âWhoâs there?â He called out.
âItâs me.â Beau opened the door. He had a suspicious look on his face and could tell something was wrong. âLook, I wasnât trying to disrespect you or anything-Iâm just here to help you.â
âI know,â Christian nodded. He was willing to do anything to get him off his back. âAre you okay?â
Beau questioned as he stepped forward. âYou stormed off, and you seemed angry, and if itâs because of me, I would like to apologize-â
âIâm fine,â Christian spoke. Beau walked a circle around Christian and observed the look on his face.
âDoes this has anything to do with Serena and Dario?â
Christian opened his mouth to deny his accusation but quickly closed it again. âSerena confessed her love for him as if itâs nothing.â Christian chuckled. It even felt strange for him to mention.
âInteresting, and what did you do?â
Christian took some time to think about his answer. The last thing he needed was for Beau to hate him even more. I called your sister a bad parent. It seemed like an awful thing to say.
âI told her I was doneâ
âDoneâ What do you mean, doneâ Beau spoke, surprised. It was not the words he had hoped for, and it came as a complete shock. He could not understand how the same Christian who fought so hard to keep Serena by his side could say something like that.
âDone with our relationship,â Christian spoke. Beau looked at him for a second before he cracked a laugh. âWhat?â He asked. âPlease tell me youâre kidding. You canât be serious.â
âI love her a lot, but I canât force her to be with me.â Christian opened up. âShe told me she feels trapped, and I canât blame her for that.â
He didnât want to trap her and he also didnât want to keep apologizing for the same mistakes, because he knew Serena deserved better than that. All he wanted was for her to be happy.
âI hurt her a lot, Beau-â
âAnd thatâs why you canât break up with her.â Beau stopped him from talking. âShe went against our family you think to be with you, and so did you. She believed in you after you treated her like shit, so whatever about doing-itâs not going to happen, at least not on my watch.â
âSiena deserves better.â Christian mentioned.
âWhat Siena deserves is a family,â Beau spoke, determined. He could not respect Christian decision. As long as it wasnât Serenaâs decision, he would not accept it.
âDid you know your sister threw a bottle at me last week?â Christian told Beau. âDoes that sound like something Siena needs?â
âYou probably deserved it and Iâm sure Siena would agree with me.â Beau shrugged. âI found the counselor as you asked me to and all you have to do is say the word.â
âI feel sorry for the counselor,â Christian spoke, embarrassed. He could not understand how a counselor could change the fact that Serena fell in love with his cousin and had no issue admitting it.
âAlso, I appreciate the effort, but I wonât be taking relationship advice from anyone who lets their girl call them poopy.â
âAnd you can judge all you want, but at least weâre happy.â Beau spoke proudly. Christian chuckled and lowered his head. The fact that someone as crazy as Isobel was capable of keeping her life together, while he couldnât, felt embarrassing, âLook,â Beau placed his hand on Christianâs shoulder. âI know my sister, and I know she doesnât love Dario half as much as she loves you, and I donât know what happened, but whatever she just told you over the phone-itâs not true.â
Christian went into deep thoughts. Could Beau be right? Did it even matter after the rude words and unnecessary outburst?
He looked at Beau with a regretful expression on his face. He couldnât believe that someone like that stood behind him, without knowing all the things he said about his sister. âYouâve always been honest to me-so now itâs my turn.â Christian sighed. âBeau, there are some things I told Serena-â
âNo,â Beau spoke. âI donât know what youâre about to say, and youâre unpredictable, so keep it.â He decided. âFor some reason, every single thing you have to say about my sister bothers me, and I donât have time to hate you at the moment. The only thing we should focus on is Berto.â
Christian smiled. âYouâre right. Weâll discuss it after everything is finished.â
âAm I interrupting something?â Dario walked through the door. Christian and Beau gave each other a look before Christian took a breath and smiled at the sight of Dario. He is always so cheerful and polite, Christian thought. Perhaps thatâs the reason why Serena was so into him.
âNo, of course not.â
âGood,â Dario spoke. âGrandpa just called. He wants you to know that theyâll be finished transferring the money around midnight.â
Grandpa.
For some reason, Christian couldnât help but feel jealous whenever that word left Darioâs mouth. He knew he didnât have the right to get angry because it was also his grandpa. So what was the issue?
He had yet to discuss the decision to share the family business with Dario, and despite everything, he hadnât changed his decision about that matter. He still believed Dario to be a good person who could take some burdens off his back, so he could focus on his family and fix whatever was left to fix..
âThatâs good,â Christian spoke. It seemed as if everything was going according to plan. The party would be in a few hours, the money was being taken care of, and Berto had no idea about their plan to catch him.
âWeâre on the winning team, so whatâs the look on your face?â Beau asked Dario.
âThereâs another issue.â Dario sighed.
âJohnny is downstairs, and Luca came alongâ¦and for some strange reason heâs in a really good mood.â
